The Short-Haired, Wheat-Skinned Girl
After Wentesi breathed out his dragon breath, he finally got a clear look at his enemy.
She was a human girl of fourteen or fifteen.
She had short black hair, gray eyes and wheat-colored skin. Tall and solidly muscled, she had a scattering of freckles across her face.
She looked capable and sharp, barefoot and wrapped in a tiger-skin garment, spirited and heroic, with a distinctly wild air.
She radiated the formidable presence of a warrior-class professional, and the exposed skin not covered by her clothing was crisscrossed with small scars, every one of them a testament to what she had been through!
Wentesi could also sense that she was a warrior-class professional.
Her level was as high as twelve!
"She's a genius."
At the sight of Wentesi breathing out such a strange dragon breath, the short-haired girl froze for a moment.
Then she realized that Wentesi was attacking her, and a fierce fighting spirit surged up within her!
She could no longer spare a thought for the old human man's warning.
Warriors were born for battle!
How could she retreat when attacked?
With a sharp shout, she thrust off the toes of her left foot. A streak of yellow Battle Qi appeared around her body and wrapped around that foot.
Then, rather than dodging, she charged toward it.
She lashed out with her bare left foot!
She apparently meant to meet force with force and smash Wentesi's dragon breath apart with a single kick.
That was very much a warrior's move, full of hot-blooded spirit.
Seeing this, Wentesi couldn't help curling his lips into a sneer.
"Foolish human!"
Was his dragon breath so easy to block?
In terms of life level alone, he was two whole tiers above a red dragon of the same age.
To say nothing of the scorching, immense Hairy Head Sun Law Power contained in his dragon breath!
It was also high noon, and the sunlight was blazing. With the boost from Greater Yang, the power of his dragon breath could increase by another thirty percent!
"Boom!"
The ball of dragon breath struck Aila's bare foot and exploded instantly.
The force of the explosion was immense!
A ring of high-pressure shock waves spread outward from the center.
And Aila was right at the center of the expanding shock wave.
Before Aila's astonished eyes, the shock wave sent her flying straight up into the sky.
More frightening still, the Hairy Head Sun Law Power carried within the dragon breath did not disperse, but gathered together like strands of golden silk.
Carried along by the shock wave, it clung to the girl Aila's skin and her Battle Qi shield.
This was Wentesi's handiwork. Ever since he had shot Hairy Head Sun Law Power into a gnoll to make a "time bomb," he had grown increasingly interested in controlling Law Power.
He had continued to study and refine his control afterward, and had benefited greatly from it.
He had also discovered that Hairy Head Sun Law Power was stronger and purer than the Battle Qi, Law Power and various kinds of magical energy in this Western fantasy world.
In terms of energy quality, the difference was like burning wood versus burning oil.
The Hairy Head Sun Law Power did not stop its assault. It continued seeping through the Battle Qi shield and the girl's skin, boring inward through her pores.
A heart-piercing pain!
"Mmgh!"
As the Hairy Head Sun Law Power continued to seep inward, the girl couldn't help groaning. She could no longer keep her balance in the air and began to fall.
Excruciating pain swept through her body again and again.
The earth-colored Battle Qi she had always relied on to make herself strong was like a flood meeting a dam before the Hairy Head Sun Law Power: it broke on contact and was routed.
This was a strange power unlike anything she had encountered in her previous battles. Overbearing beyond measure, scorching and violent, it was more than Aila could withstand.
Just as Aila was about to crash heavily into the ground, unable to hold on any longer, an elderly figure reached out and caught her.
He was an extremely gaunt, bald human elder, with deep wrinkles running across his face like ravines.
Most striking were the old man's eyes. Rather than being as cloudy as those of ordinary elders, they were exceptionally clear, like a child's.
He glanced at the Hairy Head Sun Law Power still running rampant through Aila's body.
His expression showed a trace of surprise. He glanced at Wendesi on instinct, then quickly looked away.
The old man extended two fingers as thin as kindling, white light flickering at their tips, and touched them to Aila's forehead, trying to stop the Hairy Head Sun Law Power from invading her.
But the Hairy Head Sun Law Power was far too overbearing.
The old man's white light collapsed the moment it met the Hairy Head Sun Law Power. His attempt had failed.
Not only did the white light fail to drive out the Hairy Head Sun Law Power, it instead followed the light back toward the old man.
"What an overbearing power of light."
The old man frowned, a rare sight, and immediately severed his connection to the white light on his fingers.
"Hmm?"
While the old man dealt with the Hairy Head Sun Law Power, the power on Aila continued to invade her body. She was already trembling all over with pain, hot sweat pouring down her skin.
Aila had never experienced such agony.
She had endured the pain of an adult green dragon's venomous acid, felt the torment of a heart-piercing fiend's Heart-Piercing Incantation, and suffered the soul-lashings of undead creatures.
But none of those compared to even one ten-thousandth of what she felt now.
The old man naturally saw all of this.
He hesitated no longer. A yellowish-white presence radiated from the center of his body, staining the surrounding space the same color.
A domain!
The inherited knowledge in Wentesi's mind came in handy once again.
A domain was the unique hallmark of a Sanctuary expert!
That meant this old man was an expert with a life level or professional level of at least fifteen.
Run!
Wentesi no longer stayed to watch. He pushed off with all four claws and sprang into the air, intending to fly away.
But the domain had already locked onto him. Wentesi couldn't outrun it; the domain closed in from every direction, firmly locking his body in place until he was trapped and unable to move.
He couldn't break out!
Faced with danger, Wentesi quickly calmed down and abandoned the idea of escaping.
For someone of his level-nine strength to force his way through a Sanctuary expert's domain was as laughable as a hakimi challenging a Siberian tiger.
He was the challenger.
Wentesi sensed that the domain around him was gentle and weighty, with a touch of justice and fairness.
His mind eased slightly.
A domain was the manifestation of a Sanctuary expert's character and emotions, will and ideals, and past experiences.
It bore the distinctive stamp of its owner.
Someone capable of nurturing a presence of fairness and justice would surely act openly and honorably.
Now that he was calm, he also recalled what the old man had said earlier. The man was probably someone the Great Tree Sage had invited.
But he was only slightly reassured. He remained tense, ready at any moment to transport himself to the cultivation world.
If it truly came down to life or death, he would have to flee at once, even if it meant exposing the secret of his ability to cross worlds.
Wentesi believed that even a Sanctuary expert's strike surely wouldn't be enough to kill him!
Inside the domain, however, the old man's brow furrowed ever more deeply.
He had intended to use the power of his domain to suppress and restrain this unknown force, but once he activated it, he discovered that even the power of his domain could not resist it.
He could only barely slow its spread; he could neither resist nor eradicate it.
Only the alpaca's owner can untie its bell!
The old man thought of this saying. He looked at the red dragon trapped by his domain and slowly withdrew it.
He took one step and appeared instantly before Wentesi's draconic form, bending at the waist and bowing his head to him.
"Young Lord Red Dragon, please forgive my great presumption.
This old man is Kan'erde, an ascetic of the Church of Light. I came here at the Great Tree Sage's invitation to deal with the matter of the Abyssal Rift."
Kan'erde first stated his identity and the purpose of his visit.
Then Kan'erde pointed at Aila, who was performing her final dance on the ground, and spoke sincerely:
"This is my disciple Aila. In a moment of impulse just now, she actually attacked you, Lord Red Dragon. It is because this old man has failed to discipline her properly. I beg your forgiveness."
With that, Kan'erde bowed again, formally paying his respects and apologizing to Wentesi.
"This happened because I failed to teach my disciple properly. This old man apologizes to you on her behalf, Lord Red Dragon, and hopes you can forgive her."
"Oh? An apology?"
Hearing this, Wentesi raised a draconic brow. Seeing Kan'erde's honest, sincere expression, he couldn't help coming up with a plan.
He was going to extort a Sanctuary expert!
