Teaching the Art of Talismans
Three days later, Zhang Fengge woke up. She glanced at Shen Ge not far away, her eyes showing a hint of fear.
"Now that you're awake, let me get to know you a little." Shen Ge asked calmly, "You have three Spirit Root: water, wood, and earth, and you mainly cultivate the water element, right?"
Zhang Fengge nodded slightly and whispered, "Master, to be precise, I specialize in water-based magic and am not good at using weapons like swords."
Shen Ge nodded and said, "I don't have much to teach you about this, since most of what I know are metal-based and Sword Dao techniques."
"Besides, you can't learn my weapon crafting skills, and I'm not very proficient in formations. However, I am quite skilled in talisman making. I wonder if you would be interested in that?"
"I'm interested. As long as Master is willing to teach, this disciple is willing to learn." Zhang Fengge scrambled to his feet and bowed.
Outside, Zhang Lingyu stroked his chin and sighed, "Brother Shen is not only highly skilled in weapon crafting, but also quite proficient in talisman making, and he even has some knowledge of formations. He doesn't seem like Rogue Cultivator at all."
Take the Zhang Household for example. Although the Lineage has existed for over eight hundred years, they are not proficient in any of the so-called four arts of immortal cultivation. Even though they have mastered Star Sand, a material for refining weapons, the weapon refiners in the clan can only refine Law Artifact at most, and even top-grade magic Law Artifact may not have a 50% success rate.
It's not that they're unwilling to learn, but rather it's a matter of foundational knowledge; without being taught these things, it's impossible to achieve anything significant.
"You just realized that?" Fairy Miaoyin sat on the stool, composing the "Longing" Lovesickness she had been playing earlier, and said softly without looking up, "Shen Ge has a master. Although he hasn't mentioned it, you can tell from his skills. After all, without a sect or master, where would he learn these things?"
"However, I have a feeling he's fallen out with his sect, otherwise he wouldn't be wandering around outside."
"As for the reason, I guess it's related to that person in his heart. That person must be really important to Shen Ge to make him so angry that he loses control."
Zhang Lingyu glanced at Fairy Miaoyin, then suddenly chuckled and said, "I don't know if it's just my imagination, but I think I can smell a faint hint of jealousy. Fairy, don't you think it's a pity that Brother Shen, such a good person, was missed out on?"
Fairy Miaoyin put down her pen, looked up and glared at Zhang Lingyu: "Fatty, do you want to fight? I couldn't beat you before, but now, I really want to give it a try."
Zhang Lingyu quickly waved his hand and said, "No, no, I admit defeat."
Fairy Miaoyin glared at him and said coldly, "Some things are fine to mutter to yourself in private, but it's inappropriate to bring them up. I won't get angry because you made a few jokes, but Shen Ge might not be so."
"I know I was wrong. You've taught me a lesson. I will definitely correct my mistakes in the future and never talk nonsense again," Zhang Lingyu said with a meek smile.
It's not that he ran away from the other party, it's just that he did make a mistake, and he should admit it.
Inside the room, Shen Ge pointed a finger, and a golden light entered Zhang Fengge's forehead.
"These are all the talismans I know. They contain my understanding and steps for each type. Just practice according to them."
Zhang Fengge closed his eyes and sensed for a moment, then bowed and said, "Thank you, Master."
"Practice this first. I'll be going out of town for a while and won't have time to teach you for the time being."
Once outside the room, Fairy Miaoyin tossed the completed sheet music to Shen Ge, chuckling, "If I give you this sheet music, I won't be giving you Spirit Stone, okay?"
"Thank you for saying all that." Shen Ge smiled and then thanked him, saying, "Thanks."
Looking at Shen Ge, Zhang Lingyu said with a hint of envy, "Brother Shen, if it weren't for the Zhang Household I still have to lead, I would really like to follow you around. Look at you, you're already at the Late Golden Core Stage, while I'm still at the Middle Golden Core Stage. It's been almost fifty years since then, and my cultivation hasn't increased much at all. At this rate, I don't know when I'll be able to break through."
"Brother Lingyu, if that's what you think, then I have to say something to you. Now you are the pillar of your Zhang Household. Actually, you don't need to handle clan affairs anymore. You can just focus on cultivation. I think your younger brother is quite good. Foundation Establishment Peak, and his strength is decent enough to manage the Lineage."
"Actually, if he's unwilling, I can recommend a management model for you. Let the talented members of your clan focus on cultivation, while those with less talent can take charge. Although it might seem a bit flawed on the surface, it's a win-win solution."
"It's not that simple," Zhang Lingyu sighed. "Once you enter this path of immortality, who wouldn't want to go further and higher? No one is willing to give up their cultivation time to deal with these things. Besides, I wouldn't trust them to handle it. Our Zhang Household has finally managed to gain a foothold on Sea Billow Island; we can't let them ruin it."
"See, there's nothing we can do then. You want to improve your cultivation but you don't make time to practice. How can you possibly improve? Do you really think you can increase your cultivation just by lying down?"
"Let's not talk about that." Zhang Lingyu waved his hand and said, "Thank you very much, Brother Shen. From now on, I'll leave my rebellious daughter to you. To express my gratitude, let's go to Fortune Source Tower for a meal."
Three days later, Shen Ge left Yaoguang Island and flew towards the teleportation array. It had been decades, and he planned to check if the array had been repaired, as there was something he was eager to do.
Inside the Yaoguang Immortal Sect on Yaoguang Island.
Venerable Yaoguang flipped through the ancient books and asked the young man below, "Xiao Ye, what have you been busy with lately? Why haven't I seen you cultivating?"
The young man below bowed respectfully and said, "Reporting to Great-Grandfather, it's just some personal matters."
Without even looking up Venerable Yaoguang said, "You are the most talented among my descendants. I hope you will focus more on cultivation. With the support of the sect, you have a chance to break through to the Nascent Soul Realm."
"It's not that your great-grandfather forbids you from pursuing love and romance, but you need to know what's important. That little girl from Thousand Sounds Workshop is indeed quite good; although her talent isn't as good as yours, she's very gifted."
If you truly love her, I can have your sect propose marriage on your behalf.
"Great-Grandpa, that won't be necessary. I'd like to try it out myself first," Gu Ye quickly refused. After all, what would be the point if the sect really got involved? Even if she eventually agreed, it wouldn't be the outcome he wanted.
"Then you decide for yourself. Remember, cultivation is paramount. If you neglect your cultivation, don't blame the sect for allocating resources to others."
Seeing that his suggestion had been adopted, Gu Ye breathed a sigh of relief. He bowed and said, "Thank you for your understanding, Great-Grandfather. I will certainly not let you down."
