Although he knew the suspicious person had the weapon he wanted, when Ren Suo walked over to check, he discovered that the "Steal" option only appeared when he stood behind the man.
However, "Steal" took several seconds to complete, and the man kept moving around. The moment he moved, the stealing progress bar broke off. The Killer could only follow him around and wait for him to stand still for a while.
Unexpectedly, the NPC suddenly turned around and looked at the Killer, asking suspiciously, "Friend, why are you following me?"
"Huh? I'm not." The Killer laughed awkwardly. At that moment, a notification popped up in the game:
"You have drawn the suspicious person's attention."
"Looks like I can't just keep tailing him..." Ren Suo had no choice but to move the Killer aside and keep an eye on the suspicious person from a distance.
"Ah, it's you again!"
While moving around, the Killer accidentally bumped into someone again. Unfortunately, it was the noblewoman from earlier. Even more unfortunately, she was holding a glass of wine. After the Killer bumped into her, the wine spilled all over the shirt of the middle-aged man who had been talking with her.
A waiter hurried over with a spare towel. The middle-aged man took it and wiped his shirt, frowning as he said, "Watch where you're going."
The noblewoman refused to let it go. "Who are you? You have no manners at all. How could someone like you attend a Lamperouge Family banquet..."
Ren Suo hurriedly controlled the Killer to leave, grumbling, "This game is way too realistic... Is it rendering everything in real time? Is the Little World Game Console really that powerful?"
Suddenly, Ren Suo came up with a good idea. He approached the suspicious person again and, when the man crossed paths with a young man holding a wineglass, hurried over and bumped into the young man.
The young man's wine spilled onto the suspicious person's clothes, and the Killer slipped away after doing his good deed without leaving his name. The young man hurriedly apologized to the suspicious person, while a waiter quickly handed over a towel.
By then, the Killer had already silently moved behind the suspicious person. He pretended to be a bystander shifting around to watch the commotion, but in reality, the "Steal" progress bar was rapidly filling while the suspicious person wiped his clothes...
"You have obtained 'P19C.' Ammunition: 17 rounds. Includes a pistol suppressor (installation required)."
He had finally gotten a weapon. Ren Suo had just breathed a sigh of relief when he saw a young man in a brown suit suddenly appear behind the Killer and place a hand on his shoulder.
"Don't move," the young man in the brown suit said quietly.
"You have drawn the suspicious person's attention."
"The suspicious person has discovered you!"
"Gun Mastery activated. You have discovered the pistol 'Beretta 92.'"
"The location of 'Beretta 92' has been marked."
"You have discovered a suspicious person. The suspicious person's location has been marked."
"You have been restrained by a suspicious person and are in a dangerous state. Any action you take will result in an attack against you."
Then Ren Suo saw the young man in the brown suit pointing a red-glowing pistol at the Killer's abdomen. Purple-blue shackles wrapped around the Killer's body, making him look as though he had been captured.
"Come with me."
If Ren Suo did nothing now, the Killer would automatically obey the young man in the brown suit and follow him to the entrance of the Banquet Hall.
The man pretended to take the Killer to the restroom, leading him to the corner where the Killer had changed clothes earlier.
"I don't know who you are, but you actually noticed us and even dared to set your sights on us..." The young man in the brown suit stood behind the Killer, raising his pistol to aim at the Killer's heart. "If you want to live longer, don't meddle in things that don't concern you."
Suddenly, a piercing gunshot erupted from the Banquet Hall. The young man in the brown suit seemed briefly distracted by it—because Ren Suo saw the purple-blue shackles around the Killer disappear, and a notification appeared: "Press □ to counterattack."
Without hesitation, Ren Suo controlled the Killer to slam backward, smashing the young man in the brown suit against the wall. Then the Killer followed up with an iron mountain lean, pinning him there as he drew his pistol and aimed it at the young man's head—
biu!
Ren Suo had to admit that the game's real-time rendering was terrifying. A small hole appeared in the young man's forehead where the Killer's pistol had been aimed. Blood flowed out, and his body crumpled limply to the floor.
"It is now 20:00. The mercenary organization 'Cards' has launched an attack on the Lamperouge Family." A game notification popped up: "Please escort the important person, Kallen Lamperouge, to safety."
"So this isn't an assassination mission, but a protection mission?" Ren Suo was slightly stunned. He hurried back into the Banquet Hall, only to find it in complete chaos. The upper-class guests who had been laughing and chatting over drinks moments ago were either screaming in pain on the floor or huddled trembling in a corner of the hall.
Three assassins stood at the entrance of the Banquet Hall with pistols, shooting guests who tried to escape. Several others ran toward the restrooms, elevators, and emergency exits. When they saw the Killer, who appeared to have just come out of the restroom, they immediately drew their guns and fired!
A game notification appeared: "Hold R1 to activate skill."
Ren Suo quickly held down R1. The game screen turned pale blue, as though time had frozen. The two assassins ahead of the Killer were slowly drawing their pistols and aiming at him, while the screen even predicted the trajectories of their bullets!
Bald Killer skill: Bullet Time! It could not only slow time, but also reveal bullet trajectories!
Ren Suo immediately had the Killer draw his pistol and enter aiming mode. He had several whole seconds to aim at the assassins' heads. Even using a controller, it was easy to blow both their heads apart with one shot each.
"Who is it?"
Two more people ran over. Ren Suo swiftly dealt with them in Bullet Time, and then one of the assassins guarding the Banquet Hall entrance shouted, "There's a sharpshooter! Get behind cover!"
Ren Suo chuckled. So this game let him go on an unstoppable rampage. He controlled the Killer to swagger into the Banquet Hall. The assassins hiding behind tables, pillars, and other cover opened fire at him. Ren Suo used the same trick again, entering Bullet Time and dodging bullets while aiming for their heads...
Suddenly, the blue-tinted time receded like a tide, and a notification appeared in the lower-left corner: "Insufficient Instinct Value. Skill activation ended."
What?
Ren Suo froze for a moment, and then the Killer was riddled with bullets.
"You died."
The game did not load directly. Instead, it presented two save options: "Save 0: Assassin from the Alley," "Save 1: Arrival of the Unknown Guest."
Ren Suo chose Save 1 and restarted directly from the Banquet Hall. Looking carefully, he noticed an energy bar in the upper-left corner. Its description read: "Instinct Value consumed when activating skills. When no skill is active, recovery rate is 1 point/s."
He had a total of 5 Instinct Value. Maintaining Bullet Time consumed 1 Instinct Value per second, meaning he could sustain Bullet Time for at most five seconds before having to wait for his Instinct Value to recover.
"Looks like clearing this will be somewhat difficult." Ren Suo became interested. A level with a bit of challenge was much more capable of stirring his enthusiasm.
Ren Suo suddenly noticed that, when he controlled the Killer to move around, red glows began appearing among the guests.
"You have discovered a suspicious person. The suspicious person's location has been marked."
"You have discovered a suspicious person. The suspicious person's location has been marked."
"You have discovered a suspicious person. The suspicious person's location has been marked."
Before long, Ren Suo had discovered eight suspicious people, yet he had done nothing at all!
Last time, he had only discovered suspicious people after bumping into them. Why was it so easy this time?
At that moment, Ren Suo spotted the young man in the brown suit who had once threatened the Killer with a gun. His entire body was glowing red too, marked by the Killer as a "suspicious person."
As Ren Suo continued observing, he found that the NPCs in the Banquet Hall all had distinctive faces. They were definitely not shoddy characters made from the same model. Among the suspicious people marked by the Killer, Ren Suo recalled that five of them were assassins the Killer had killed in the previous run.
He did not remember the other three very clearly, but all three were standing near the Banquet Hall entrance. They were most likely the assassins responsible for guarding it.
"Hm?"
A thought suddenly struck Ren Suo. "Could it be that every time I perform a Rollback Operation, the game character's progress doesn't disappear, but accumulates into the next run as known information?"
