"Finally cleared it..."
Ren Suo looked at the impressive score of 85 before him, satisfied as he set down the controller and admired his results.
"Completed basic mission objective—60 points;"
"Killed a moderate number of enemies—5 points;"
"Saved a moderate number of innocent people—5 points;"
"Completed special side mission—15 points;"
"Total score: 85 points. Rating: Extraordinary."
"Mission rating: 85 points (Extraordinary). Highest mission rating: 85 points (Extraordinary)."
"Would you like to upload this result as the final result? After a successful upload, you will receive Merit Points corresponding to your rating."
"After the rating is uploaded, this chapter will be permanently closed."
Ren Suo could not think of any way to improve it further, so he chose to upload the result. Besides, he had no intention of playing this chapter again.
"It's this late already?" Ren Suo checked his phone and found that it was already 23:29. Though he had figured out how to complete the side mission, perfectly protecting Yuffie Lamperouge and Kallen Lamperouge was no easy task. He also had to protect the guests outside as much as possible, and it took Ren Suo several retries to achieve an ending he was satisfied with.
"Mission rating upload complete. You have received 15 Merit Points. Please use them wisely."
"You have received One-Star Treasure Chest ×1. You may open it in the Content Repository."
"As this is a free chapter, you cannot receive an exclusive reward."
"The 'Bloodstained Banquet' chapter of 'Killer' has been closed. Thank you for playing. The Infinite Fun of Little Worlds!"
Ren Suo turned off the television. Once his mind, which had been immersed in the game all day, finally relaxed, a heavy wave of drowsiness hit him immediately. Shaking his head, Ren Suo yawned and went to shower and brush his teeth. Half an hour later, the moment his head touched the pillow, it was like a perfect union of wind and dew, and he fell straight into such peaceful sleep that not even a sore backside could wake him.
A few hours later, the British Mist Capital welcomed, as expected, a hazy drizzle.
This city, which had begun to serve as the center of the world in the eighteenth century, had since surrendered its authority to younger successors, yet it still possessed a legacy worthy of awe and praise.
Amid the misty rain and dim yellow streetlights, travelers walking through the city could seemingly feel the pride left behind by the once-undefeated British Empire.
As one sedan after another arrived, the Black Briar Building standing in the rain welcomed countless distinguished guests.
Most of these guests were traditional nobles whose families had existed since before the Glorious Revolution, or newly risen families that had gained fame within the past century. This was a dinner for the upper class—they enjoyed completing exchanges of interest amid casual conversation.
But on the roadside less than three hundred meters from the Black Briar Building, a BMW 750Li was parked by the curb. Anger slapped the steering wheel helplessly and asked, "Kallen, where did you put the umbrella... sigh, I forgot again."
The driver, Kallen, had fallen ill yesterday, so Anger had no choice but to drive himself these past two days. But the last time he had driven was when he took his driver's license test—he had absolutely no interest in driving.
Although Anger knew how to drive, he never paid much attention to the fuel gauge. Now, he had run out of gas and broken down by the roadside.
Fortunately, the Black Briar Building was not far away, so Anger could simply walk there. But then another problem arose—there was no umbrella in the car. Kallen was also responsible for the umbrellas, and Anger had no idea where he kept them.
Anger sighed. First, he used his phone to notify the insurance company to tow the car away, then he got out and headed toward the building standing amid the foggy rain nearby.
"It's fine. The rain is light; it won't affect me much..." Anger quietly comforted himself. Just then, a speeding car passed by, its powerful wheels rolling through the puddles and splashing water all over Anger's clean formalwear.
"Oh, God!" Anger cursed under his breath, watching the car speed away without any intention of stopping. "Let me see you again, and I'll stuff your face into Uncle Tom's pie!"
Anger hurried toward the Black Briar Building. He truly did not want to receive a second baptism like that by the roadside—damn it, there was no way today could get any worse, right?
Just then, a handsome young man with Asian features and a red teardrop-shaped mark between his brows approached Anger. "Are you Mr. Anger Riccar? I'm the butler of the Lamperouge Family. Your clothes seem to be dirty. Please come with me and change into something clean."
The handsome young man stepped forward, angling the black umbrella in his hand over Anger's head. No longer having raindrops wash over his face, Anger breathed a sigh of relief. "Thank you so much... How did you know I was Anger Riccar?"
The handsome young man smiled faintly. "As the butler of the Lamperouge Family, I naturally have to memorize the guests' information. I will escort you to the Black Briar Building. Please follow me."
At last, today's bad luck had come to an end. Anger sighed in relief and followed the handsome young man as he turned down a side path.
Why were they not taking the main road? Slightly puzzled, Anger asked, "This doesn't seem to be the way to the Black Briar Building..."
"Is that so?"
With that amused question, Anger felt a sharp pain at the back of his head and instantly lost consciousness.
A few minutes later, the handsome young man held his umbrella high and walked proudly toward the Black Briar Building.
"Sir, please present your invitation." A staff member politely stopped him, then glanced at it and asked, "Are you Lord Albus Ricarr?"
"No, I'm Albus Ricarr's nephew," the handsome young man said politely. "My uncle had something urgent come up, so he asked me to attend the Lamperouge banquet in his place."
"Very well. Please follow me."
The handsome young man took the elevator to the ninth-floor Banquet Hall. The instant he stepped inside, his whole body seemed to flicker.
Without any hesitation, he strode toward a corner of the banquet. Along the way, he accidentally bumped into a young woman's arm, causing the amber liquid in her wineglass to spill onto a man in a brown suit beside her.
The handsome young man then swiftly slipped into the crowd and disappeared. While the man in the brown suit was cleaning his clothes, the handsome young man passed by him holding a wineglass. When he left, his left hand held a pistol and a suppressor attachment.
He headed toward the inner hall passage. After showing his identity, he easily passed the questioning of a middle-aged butler and several men in black—they had never met Anger Riccar. Though they were surprised that Anger had the appearance of a Xuan Kingdom person, they did not stop him.
After entering the inner hall, the handsome young man assembled the pistol, disengaged the safety, and smiled as he walked toward Kallen Lamperouge and Yuffie Lamperouge, who were surrounded by the crowd.
The carpet in the inner hall perfectly muffled the sound of his leather shoes. The finger on the trigger tightened slightly, while a smile that instinctively invited closeness hung on his face. By the time Yuffie, dressed in splendid attire, noticed the handsome Asian man, only a meter separated them.
"Hello." Yuffie extended her hand in greeting. "Are you from the Cherry Blossom Country?"
"No, I'm from the Xuan Kingdom." The handsome young man tilted his head slightly and smiled. "Miss Yuffie..."
"There's something I'm not sure whether I should say..."
