Raising the Filling Decoction
After hanging up his aunt's call, Su Ziyang began searching for information about Baohe Pill.
The formula for Baohe Pill is recorded in various medical books, such as Medical Mirror of Blossoming Writings, Investigations of Medical Formulas, Effective Formulas of Extraordinary Efficacy, and many others.
As for why it can help with weight loss, Su Ziyang still hasn't figured it out, so he can only write it down and do more research on it later.
I had just tidied up for a while when another patient came to the room seeking treatment.
A 38-year-old man named Wang Shuo.
When Su Ziyang took Wang Shuo's pulse, both of Wang Shuo's cun pulses were weak and felt very feeble. The guan and chi pulses were also quite deep and weak.
Wang Shuo is also very thin and doesn't look very strong.
"Let me address your issues first. Firstly, you may have heart and lung problems, and secondly, you may have cervical spondylosis. You feel weak all over!"
After taking the pulse, Su Ziyang slowly stated his judgment.
Wang Shuo nodded in agreement.
"You're right, there is indeed a problem with my lungs. Doctor, it's like this. One year I caught a cold, and I thought it would just pass on its own, so I didn't take any medicine. Later, I started coughing, and then the cough got worse and worse until I couldn't cough anymore, so I went to the hospital and found out I had emphysema. I was hospitalized for a while."
Wang Shuo began to recount his medical history. "Later, the cough stopped, but I was left with a lingering ailment. It's this part of my life."
As Wang Shuo spoke, he gestured with his hand to the area of his sternum.
"This part, I am..."
As he spoke, Wang Shuo took a breath, then paused for a moment.
Su Ziyang didn't quite understand what Wang Shuo meant, so he asked, "Is it shortness of breath?"
"No. It's like, for example, I take a breath, and then I feel like I can't catch my breath, so I have to cough or stop for a moment to catch my breath. And it doesn't happen every time, maybe two or three times out of ten. Maybe it never happens."
As Su Ziyang listened to Wang Shuo's description and watched Wang Shuo gesture with his fingers in front of his chest, he fell into deep thought.
What is this called?
What kind of illness is it?
Have you seen this before? Have you taken any traditional Chinese medicine or Western medicine?
Su Ziyang rolled his eyes, deciding to inquire about the patient's treatment history, as it could serve as a valuable reference.
"I've never taken Western medicine before. I went to a Western medicine hospital. The doctor said it was nothing serious, just a sequela of emphysema. He said I didn't need any medication. I found a traditional Chinese medicine doctor who prescribed this for me!"
Wang Shuo spoke, he actually took out a medicine from his pocket and handed it to Su Ziyang.
Su Ziyang looked up and saw that it said "Buzhong Yiqi Pill).
Buzhong Yiqi Pill is made based on the Buzhong Yiqi Decoction formula.
The effects of Buzhong Yiqi Pill) are: to replenish qi and strengthen the spleen, and to lift yang and relieve prolapse. It can alleviate symptoms such as fatigue, loss of appetite, abdominal distension, loose stools and chronic diarrhea, rectal prolapse, and uterine prolapse.
The Buzhong Yiqi Decoction comes from the book "Treatise on the Spleen and Stomach" by Li Gao, also known as Li Dongyuan. He lived during the Jin-Yuan period in what is now Zhengding Hebei.
It is commonly believed that Buzhong Yiqi Decoction) mainly replenishes the middle qi and treats some diseases of organ prolapse, but this is not the case.
It can treat many diseases, but of course, the prescription needs to be modified by adding or subtracting ingredients.
However, the underlying principle remains the same. Li Dongyuan proposed a principle that is, irregular eating habits or other reasons can damage the spleen and stomach. Once the spleen and stomach are damaged, a person's acquired constitution will be insufficient.
At this point, a situation of excessive internal heat will occur, and then, following this butterfly effect, a series of symptoms will appear.
"The patient experiences shortness of breath, fever, and restlessness; their pulse is strong and rapid, accompanied by headache; they may also experience persistent thirst; and their skin is sensitive to wind and cold."
Therefore, the Buzhong Yiqi Decoction can treat various symptoms caused by damage to the spleen and stomach.
Therefore, some people use Buzhong Yiqi Decoction a traditional Chinese medicine formula) to treat fever due to qi deficiency. For example, if you have undergone surgery, you may have a fever, but the wound is not inflamed.
Or, a person may develop a fever after being overworked, but this fever is different from that of a cold.
At this point, the Buzhong Yiqi Decoction formula would be used.
How long have you been taking this medication?
Su Ziyang looked at the bottle of Buzhong Yiqi Pill for a while before handing it to Wang Shuo.
"Hmm! I've taken two bottles. It's not working, I still feel terrible!"
Wang Shuo reluctantly took the medicine bottle from Su Ziyang and put it back in his pocket.
"I'll stop taking it after I finish this bottle. If it doesn't work, so be it. I bought it, so I can't just throw it away because I can't finish it!"
Wang Shuo's theory left Su Ziyang a bit confused. This wasn't a snack or treat. You might buy food that tastes bad, but you'd grit your teeth and finish it just to avoid wasting it.
This medicine...
Are you also afraid of wasting money?
"I'm prescribing herbal decoction. When you take this medicine, don't take this Buzhong Yiqi Pill. This is medicine, not a snack, so don't take it."
Su Ziyang's words immediately amused Wang Shuo.
"Okay, I won't eat anymore, I won't eat anymore. Just prescribe some herbal medicine!"
"Good."
Su Ziyang initially had no clue about Wang Shuo's illness, but when Wang Shuo took out the Buzhong Yiqi Pill, Su Ziyang instantly had the answer.
Wang Shuo's illness is called atmospheric sinking.
His qi is different from that of the spleen and stomach; the qi specifically refers to the qi in the chest area.
This theory was proposed by Zhang Xichun, a modern physician, in his book "Records of Chinese and Western Medicine in Combination".
In the first volume of his book "Records of Chinese and Western Medicine in Combination"—specifically, the section on "Prescriptions for Treating Qi Deficiency"—he elaborates on what "qi" (vital energy) is and the theories upon which he discovered it.
Three relatively obvious symptoms will appear at the lower limit of chest air quality:
1. Shortness of breath, insufficient to catch one's breath.
2. Or, breathing heavily, seemingly panting.
3. Breathing is about to stop.
Wang Shuo's symptom is clearly an effort to breathe, resembling shortness of breath, but it's not actually shortness of breath.
Determining whether there is a sinking of qi in the chest cannot rely solely on symptoms. Zhang Xichun also pointed out a pulse characteristic. "The pulse is deep, slow, weak, and especially pronounced at the Guan position."
This pulse pattern is extremely similar to that of Wang Shuo.
Zhang Xichun also proposed a prescription for treating this disease – Raising the Filling Decoction.
Su Ziyang skillfully typed the Raising the Filling Decoction into the computer:
18g of raw astragalus
Anemarrhena asphodeloides 9g
Bupleurum 5g
Platycodon grandiflorus 5g
5g of Cimicifuga
7 pay.
After writing out the prescription, Su Ziyang instructed Wang Shuo to go home and decoct the medicine on time.
Su Ziyang had just explained the cause of the disease to Wang Shuo, and Wang Shuo felt that Su Ziyang's explanation was clear, so he trusted Su Ziyang's words completely.
After seeing Wang Shuo off, Su Ziyang quickly jotted down his thoughts in the patient's medical record book.
I then looked through Zhang Xichun's insights and analysis on the concept of "heart and mind" in the book "Records of Chinese and Western Medicine in Combination".
Zhang Xichun believed that the great energy in one's chest was the same as one's ancestral energy.
As we mentioned at the beginning of the book, the human body has nutritive qi, defensive qi, ancestral qi, and so on.
Zhang Xichun also wrote in the book that he discovered this atmosphere later.
"It is common knowledge that the lungs are responsible for respiration. However, the fact that the lungs can breathe actually depends on the air in the chest is something that not only those who are not doctors do not know, but even doctors rarely know it, and it is seldom mentioned in medical books."
After reading Zhang Xichun's views on the importance of having a broad mind, Su Ziyang instantly gained some new insights, feeling a sense of well-being throughout his body and a smoother flow of energy.
Therefore, no matter what you study, only by learning from the past can you understand the present, and only by building on the past can you pave the way for the future.
The right way is to learn from the experiences of predecessors and then strive to innovate.
Feeling delighted, Su Ziyang couldn't help but hum a little tune: Weslie, Tibbie, Paddi, Sparky...
I hummed a few lines, and then my phone started vibrating incessantly.
Su Ziyang stopped singing happily, took out his phone, and discovered that someone was frantically adding him on WeChat.
This person is called Rice Steamed Cornbread.
He is a member of Teacher Yi's Bagua Image-Number Therapy group.
"Approved! Teacher Yang. I have an urgent medical need."
A few minutes earlier, Su Ziyang would never have accepted this friend request.
But before the smugness had worn off, my hand couldn't resist accepting the friend request.
Rice Steamed Cornbread: "Hello, Teacher Yang."
"Hello."
Su Ziyang also replied politely.
"You're friends with Teacher Yi in the group, right? Teacher Yi even praised your skills in the group. May I ask how skilled Teacher Yi really is?"
The Rice Steamed Cornbread comment left Su Ziyang completely bewildered. Since Su Ziyang hadn't checked the group chat all day, the messages had already exceeded 99+.
Su Ziyang really didn't want to scroll through the chat history, so he just deleted it.
So Su Ziyang had no idea what Teacher Yi was saying about him in the group chat.
"Hello, I don't know this Teacher Yi either. So I don't know his level of expertise. I'm sorry."
Su Ziyang's words were fairly standard.
"My mother has had lung cancer for a month now. She's been using the Eight Trigrams numerology method that Teacher Yi gave us, but recently her condition has worsened. She's in a lot of pain, can't eat, and is bedridden. So I wanted you to check if Teacher Yi's Eight Trigrams numerology method is correct!"
The way they talked about Rice Steamed Cornbread made my scalp tingle.
Although Su Ziyang had experimented with this Bagua Image-Number Therapy twice and indeed achieved good results, Su Ziyang still didn't know the working principle of this Bagua Image-Number Therapy or whether it was effective for everyone and every illness!
"Um... Lung cancer is such a serious disease, I think you should go to the hospital first!"
Su Ziyang's words were always very proper and conventional.
"I went to the hospital, they're going to do chemotherapy. My mom is old, and I'm worried her body won't be able to handle it. Teacher Yi is amazing, so I thought I'd ask him for help!"
As Rice Steamed Cornbread spoke, he sent over several strings of exceptionally long numbers.
22222200000.380000.00000
16000.222220000
333330.777770
"Teacher Yang, could you please take a look at these numbers? My mother has small cell lung cancer, are they the right diagnosis? Please take a look."
Su Ziyang carefully examined the strings of numbers, unsure how to broach the subject. He then tactfully said, "I only have a superficial understanding of this Bagua Image-Number Therapy; I'm not a professional. I don't really know much about it! Perhaps you could ask someone else?"
