A Strange Infectious Disease
Mr. Mengfei and Zhenze were both numb.
The owl in the tree kept snickering.
"I'm not afraid of this filth! Let me give it a good whack."
Mr. Mengfei originally did not want to hurt the owl, as Heaven is known for its benevolence towards life. It is not yet certain whether the owl is harming people, but the creature's laughter is truly chilling, and Mr. Mengfei can hardly stand it.
In fact, most laws dislike unclean things, but Mr. Mengfei's pestle is truly unafraid!
This pestle is called the Ucchusma Vajra.
It was blessed by a highly accomplished master from the snowy mountains who had practiced the Ucchusma Mantra for over a decade. This pestle could fly up and down in the old master's hands, like a remote-controlled Flying Sword.
However, in Mr. Mengfei's hands, it was not so miraculous; it only carried the Ucchusma Dharma.
Speaking of this, we must mention Ucchusma Ucchusma, also known as the Buddha Divine King of Great Power and Strength. He was transformed from the heart of Shakyamuni Buddha.
One of the stories is that after Shakyamuni Buddha's Nirvana, all the gods and Buddhas came to make offerings to him.
However, at that time there was a Brahma King Shikhin who did not come to make offerings to the Buddha, but instead indulged in debauchery in the city.
At this point, everyone got a little angry and asked a group of magicians to subdue him. This Brahma King Shikhin threw many filthy items outside the city, such as the menstrual blood mentioned earlier.
At this point, the spells of these sorcerers broke and became ineffective; some even suffered a backlash and died. Later, they asked Vajra to subdue them, but it was no use.
Everyone was a bit confused, then became agitated and sad. At this moment, a Vajra appeared from the left heart of Shakyamuni Buddha. It was named Ucchusma.
The Ucchusma said, "I have a divine mantra that can purify them and subdue them."
Ucchusma pointed his finger, the filthy place transformed into a pure land.
Thus, this mantra for purifying impurities and being free from defilement was passed down. It is called the Ucchusma Mantra.
The Vajra pestle in Mr. Mengfei's hand has been blessed by the Ucchusma Mantra.
Mr. Mengfei took out the pestle. The owl, which had become a spirit, could tell that the pestle was no ordinary item, and he couldn't laugh out loud.
With a quick glance at its two aunts, it flew off to the west of the woods.
The owl Feifei, stopping intermittently, then turned back and hooted at the two of them.
"Brother Zhenze, it seems he wants us to follow him!"
Mr. Mengfei noticed that the owl seemed to be leading the way. Zhenze also noticed this and exchanged a glance with Mr. Mengfei. The two then ran after the owl.
The owl flew and hooted, leading the two to a ravine where, surprisingly, there stood a dilapidated little temple.
There was a statue of a deity in the temple, a seated one. It was so dilapidated that its features were no longer recognizable. An owl circled twice above the temple before flying away.
"It wants us to come to this temple?"
Zhenze dared not enter the temple rashly and stood outside the temple gate to look around.
Mr. Mengfei also stopped and quietly looked at Zhenze.
There's a saying in the wild, "Better to sleep in a desolate grave than to stay in a wild temple."
In other words, if you get lost in the wild or need to camp while traveling, it is not recommended to stay in a deserted temple. Of course, this involves some "superstitious" issues, which we will leave aside for now.
The two dared not go in rashly, so Mr. Mengfei and Zhenze started talking about things down the mountain.
It was only then that Mr. Mengfei learned what had happened down the mountain.
Because there are many children, the adults have to work.
So the children usually played together, and it all started when one of them suddenly got sick and started having a fever without any other symptoms.
Once the fever reached a certain level, the child started talking incoherently. In the end, the child was burned alive.
As luck would have it, whether he was delirious or for some other reason, the child called out the name of his best playmate before he died.
Then something strange happened: the child whose name was called also started to have a fever for no reason. His family was frantic and they looked for doctors from all around, but none of them could do anything!
Then something even stranger happened to this child!
As he lay dying, he called out the name of another playmate! This playmate had also fallen ill.
This feeling is like the Lord Yama summoning souls; whoever he calls will die.
The villagers were terrified. Every household stayed indoors and hid their children. The village chief, who had met Zhenze several times before, specially invited Zhenze to come.
From the beginning, Zhenze suspected that the owl was the culprit, because the owl is also called the night owl, and it is a messenger of souls.
Aside from this, Zhenze had never seen anything else with such power.
As luck would have it, when Zhenze went up the mountain to search, he saw this owl.
That's why what just happened occurred.
Mr. Mengfei listened with a frown, unable to make heads or tails of the matter. After Zhenze finished speaking, Mr. Mengfei suddenly remembered the naked child who had been smiling at him.
So she told Zhenze what had just happened, and Zhenze was also confused. "Could it be that some other spirits are behind this?"
"I don't know. I don't think this is something that owl would do, otherwise why would that guy lead us here?"
Mr. Mengfei began to slowly analyze the matter, Zhenze also clicked his tongue in thought.
"Never mind! I'll just risk it all. I'll summon heavenly lightning; I don't believe any demons or monsters can cause trouble."
Zhenze drew his sword from his back, ready to rush into the temple. But Mr. Mengfei grabbed him, saying, "Let's go down the mountain first and ask the villagers if they know of any dilapidated temple here. It would be best if they could find out who is enshrined in this temple."
After being persuaded by Mr. Mengfei, Zhenze realized that he had a point, so the two packed up their tools and went down the mountain.
The village chief was an eighty-year-old man, but due to the simple and honest folk customs, his health was still relatively good, and more importantly, his mind was quite clear.
"I've heard of that dilapidated temple. It's in that mountain valley, and very few of us go there anymore. I only heard about it once from my father. He said that the temple was dedicated to a famous doctor from our area, whose name I've forgotten. Anyway, he once treated a plague here, and that's how the temple was built for him!"
The clan chief didn't know who the temple belonged to, but he was certain that the god worshipped there was not a bad person, nor was it a place for worshipping evil gods.
Only then did the two feel relieved, but if they wanted to go up the mountain to explore the temple again, they would have to wait until tomorrow.
Although the sun is high now, once you enter the mountains, the sun will set a little with every step you take.
The clan chief knew that Mr. Mengfei was also a highly skilled person, so he arranged accommodations for the two of them. Mr. Mengfei felt that healing the sick and saving lives was also a meritorious deed, so he did not refuse and stayed with Zhenze.
