Bone Setting
Su Ziyang carefully examined the traditional Chinese medicine prescriptions in the medical records brought by the family.
The overall prescription focuses on calming wind and stopping spasms, clearing heat and resolving phlegm.
Later on, as the person became thinner, some doctors began to add some warming and tonifying herbs to their prescriptions.
But no matter how you change the recipe or the approach...
The final result will be only one: no therapeutic effect.
Moreover, this family is very persistent; each time they seek medical treatment in the same place, they manage to persist for more than six months.
It doesn't mean that after seeing a doctor in one place for a week, you switch places every day to see the results.
"We've tried every possible solution."
As Su Ziyang looked at the various reports, he pondered in his mind.
Acupuncture, conventional acupuncture, and various unique acupuncture methods, such as small needle knife therapy, long needle therapy, and special acupoint therapy, etc.
I've probably tried almost every kind of herbal medicine Tang Fang has used over the years.
"Come, let me take your pulse again."
Su Ziyang felt that if he wanted to cure this illness, he had to find the cause from the pulse diagnosis; he must have overlooked some details.
Illness is not something inherent in the human body; one can acquire it and also get rid of it. To say that it is incurable is simply because the right method has not been found.
A disease cannot appear out of nowhere, nor can it disappear out of nowhere.
There must be a reason for this. Since other people's methods don't work, we should figure out where the problem lies.
Because listening to the family describe their condition, they said that no matter what treatment they tried, the tremors didn't lessen or improve at all.
Because the patient's hands were shaking, Su Ziyang had some difficulty taking the pulse. It wasn't as steady as when he usually took a pulse.
I gently pinched her wrist and repeated the pulse-taking process I had just performed.
This time, however, we were more careful, more attentive, and it took longer.
Finally, after checking the pulses four or five times on both sides, Su Ziyang discovered some clues.
The pulse on this patient's left hand showed a very faint dot at the cun and guan positions, but this sensation was barely perceptible.
But like something, once you discover it, see it, and touch it, you can't simply ignore it again.
After Su Ziyang touched it, he carefully felt the abnormal pulse beating there.
After carefully studying and feeling it for a long time, Su Ziyang discovered another anomaly: whenever he breathed in and out, the pulse in this area was crooked.
It's not very obvious, but you can feel it if you look closely.
Because when taking a pulse, the principle is that the pulse should be felt with each exhale and each inhale.
Only by carefully observing the patient's breathing could Su Ziyang detect the abnormality in the patient's pulse.
"Let me ask you something. Did you suffer any external injuries before you got this disease?"
Su Ziyang's question actually stumped the family.
"Trauma?"
No way!
I don't think so.
"No!"
After discussing it for a while, the group came to the conclusion that there was none.
"Okay. Let me check, let me check!"
Su Ziyang stood up, pointed to the massage bed next to him, and asked the trembling patient to lie down on the massage bed.
Based on the pulse diagnosis, Su Ziyang guessed that the deviation should be in the spine, roughly at the fifth or sixth thoracic vertebra.
Su Ziyang then searched down the cervical vertebrae one by one, checking for any deviations or misalignments in the spine...
As everyone knows, there are 7 cervical vertebrae, 12 thoracic vertebrae, and 5 lumbar vertebrae.
When Su Ziyang touched the 7th thoracic vertebra, he realized that something was wrong with that area.
Does it hurt?
Su Ziyang pressed down next to the spinous process with his hand.
The patient, who was lying face down, immediately shouted, "Stop! Stop! Don't press! It hurts!"
Hearing the patient shout, Su Ziyang withdrew his thumb.
To explain a little about the anatomy of the spine, it's the Bones at the back that you can see protruding when you bend over or lower your head; its scientific name is the spinous process.
Then, if you like to eat ribs or lamb spine, you'll see that this complete spine has three points: one in the middle and one on each side.
The one in the very middle is called the spinous process, and the ones on either side are called the transverse processes.
Su Ziyang had touched the location of this spinous process. In orthopedics, specifically in the diagnosis of spinal diseases, palpation and percussion are two commonly used techniques.
When assessing spinal lesions, we usually press directly on the spinous process; tenderness indicates a problem with the supraspinous ligament.
This is more common among young people, such as those who spend long periods looking down or leaning against the headboard while using their phones. This often leads to tenderness on the spinous processes of the thoracic vertebrae, and they also tend to experience back pain.
In Western medicine, this condition is called aseptic inflammation, while in Traditional Chinese Medicine it is called poor blood circulation.
So apply a hot towel and then massage it. That will make you feel much better.
This refers to tenderness upon palpation of the spinous process.
Another type of tenderness is called paravertebral tenderness, or simply paravertebral tenderness.
The tenderness in this area indicates a problem with the nerve root, which could be a herniated disc, as commonly known, with the herniated disc pressing on the nerve.
When pressure is applied by the hand, it stimulates the nerve root, which causes tenderness.
Another type of paravertebral tenderness could be due to spinal misalignment. When the spine is misaligned, the muscles and nerves on both sides are likely to become tender due to the misalignment.
So the patient that Su Ziyang examined had this problem: the spinous process of the seventh thoracic vertebra was severely deviated, by about five centimeters.
Here's a simple way to check for any deviation: starting from the Dazhui acupoint, slide your two thumbs or two index fingers down along the spine.
If there are no problems, the line that the two fingers slide down should be straight. If it is not straight but crooked, then it means that it is crooked or off-center.
This also has a scientific name: facet joint disorder.
At this point, spinal manipulation or traditional Chinese medicine techniques to reposition the spine are needed.
Of course, it's unrealistic to try to reset it yourself, so you'll need to find a professional for treatment.
Don't think that this slight spinal misalignment is insignificant; there's a new field of study called "spinal medicine."
Research has found that spinal problems can directly affect the health of internal organs.
For example, if pharyngitis is caused by cervical spondylosis, the pharyngitis will also get better once the cervical spondylosis is cured.
Or diarrhea caused by lumbar spine disease.
Of course, this theory is still being refined.
However, from the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine, the spine is the Du meridian, which is the sea of Yang meridians in the body.
The Du Meridian is malfunctioning. The flow of Qi in the Yang Qi Sea is obstructed, naturally causing problems with the five internal organs and six bowels.
"Is this what hurts?"
After Su Ziyang pressed on that spot again, the patient screamed in pain once more.
"Relax, relax, let me adjust your spine first. Just a moment."
Su Ziyang wanted to help this person relax and straighten his crooked spine.
"Doctor, my uncle has Parkinson's disease. Why are you massaging his spine? We came here to try some herbal medicine and see if you traditional Chinese medicine practitioners have any special methods. Why are you massaging him?"
The young man who came with them chimed in from the side.
"Let's talk about it later."
Su Ziyang didn't want to explain further and simply waved his hand at the man.
"Listen to the doctor."
The woman pushing the wheelchair nudged the young man who was speaking, telling Su Ziyang to ignore him and continue with the treatment.
Before performing bone setting, the patient should be fully relaxed so that the setting can be done more easily. Otherwise, due to long-term spinal misalignment, the muscles in that area will be deformed, stretched, and tense, making it difficult to correct.
Su Ziyang's hands moved like dancing elves, pressing on the person's back.
Rolling and one-finger relaxation techniques were used, and I did this for about ten minutes.
Su Ziyang felt the Deqi the meridians here and was completely relaxed.
Su Ziyang clenched his fists into half fists and then pressed them against the sides of the crooked spine.
"Come on, inhale."
Su Ziyang asked the patient to inhale, and the patient took a deep breath.
Exhale!
"Phew~"
"Suck!"
Su Ziyang placed his hands on either side of the patient's spine, and as the patient breathed, Su Ziyang's hands pressed tightly against the back and moved up and down with it.
After the patient had breathed back and forth three times, Su Ziyang took advantage of the moment when the patient exhaled all the air from his chest and immediately used a short, downward thrust.
"Snap!~ Crack!"
A loud explosion was heard.
Su Ziyang touched the crooked spine again, and it had returned to its original position.
After performing the repositioning technique, Su Ziyang massaged both sides of the spine for a while to help relax the area.
"Alright, get up."
Su Ziyang patted the man on the back and then told him to get up.
The woman pushing the wheelchair instinctively reached out to help him, but to her surprise, he rolled over and sat up on the massage bed on his own.
The family was completely bewildered. They had come to the doctor for treatment of Parkinson's disease, which caused hand tremors, but instead, the doctor gave them a massage and even pressed on their backs at the end.
"Hey! Uncle, your hands don't seem to be shaking anymore!"
Just as everyone was wondering, the young man who had questioned Su Ziyang's massage exclaimed in surprise.
Even the patient himself couldn't quite believe it. He looked down at his hands, which had stopped trembling, and was stunned for a moment before tears welled up in his eyes.
She held her hands up in front of her and looked at them repeatedly, tears streaming down her chin.
The woman pushing the wheelchair held the man's hand and looked at it repeatedly for a while before suddenly throwing herself into his arms and crying tears of joy.
"It's really not shaking anymore! It's really not shaking anymore!"
The whole family was so happy they didn't know what to say.
"Doctor, thank you so much! Thank you so much!"
Su Ziyang sat in the chair, trying to appear calm, took a sip of water from his cup, and accepted the patient's thanks.
"Doctor, we've been seeing doctors for five years! Five years! We've been to the south and the north, east and west, everywhere. We still can't understand it! Look, my sty hasn't even healed yet. We should have come sooner! We should have come sooner!"
The man became more and more agitated as he spoke, tears and snot streaming down his face. Su Ziyang quickly grabbed some tissues for the family to wipe their tears.
The man wasn't quite used to his hands not shaking, so when his family returned to present Su Ziyang with a banner, he insisted on writing a thank-you letter to Su Ziyang by hand.
The reason Su Ziyang pretended to be calm was because Su Ziyang hadn't expected that his simple act of striking a bone would actually heal the person instantly.
My initial thought was that the inaccurate pulse might be due to a disorder of the facet joints in the spine.
Because if the flow of Qi and blood is not smooth, the pulse may be unstable. Only when the flow of Qi and blood is smooth will the diseases of the internal organs manifest.
So I thought that once the Qi and blood flowed smoothly and this problem was resolved, the pulse might change after a while, and then when I took the pulse again, it might be completely different.
To Su Ziyang's utter surprise, the reason for the man's trembling hands was something he couldn't quite understand.
After everyone left, Su Ziyang was still in a daze. After thinking about it for a long time, he simply called Mr. Mengfei.
"Master, Master!"
Su Ziyang shouted loudly on the phone.
"Meow?"
As soon as Mr. Mengfei heard Su Ziyang's movements, he knew that Su Ziyang was alright.
"Master, I have something to tell you..."
Beep beep beep beep beep, Su Ziyang recounted the whole story to Mr. Mengfei.
"Oh, that's interesting."
Mr. Mengfei said on the phone, "He probably has a problem in that area. If you fix it, he'll be fine."
Mr. Mengfei's words left Su Ziyang speechless. "Master, is that an answer?"
"Yes!" Mr. Mengfei's words were quite clear. "People suffer from many illnesses, but doctors suffer from a lack of understanding of how to treat them. You must continue your efforts! I have other matters to attend to, so I won't talk to you any longer!"
Mr. Mengfei is always incredibly fast at hanging up the phone; once he says he's hanging up, he hangs up immediately.
"Oh no. Master must have a mistress now and has forgotten about his disciple."
Su Ziyang couldn't help but make a comment.
In fact, what Mr. Mengfei just said is correct. What he meant was that ordinary people worry about having too many illnesses, while doctors worry about having too few ways to treat diseases.
In conclusion, diseases are ever-changing, but the methods of treating them are becoming increasingly limited. Therefore, the most important thing is to grasp the essentials and remain steadfast in the face of change.
So recording this illness gave Su Ziyang another insight: when considering a patient's condition, one must be thorough and comprehensive.
With this idea in mind, Su Ziyang felt that his brain had improved again.
Later, an older man came along, always complaining of numbness in his mouth and pain in his tongue.
This guy is quite interesting, a rather mysterious person.
Because of this tongue pain, I've had many checkups and taken both traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine.
When I arrived, I had Su Ziyang's noodles and drank two bottles of Pu Di Lan oral liquid.
Su Ziyang checked the pulse and found nothing wrong. At this moment, Su Ziyang remembered this matter again: diagnosing a disease doesn't necessarily require looking at the whole body; it can also involve examining the local area.
This is what you call a holistic approach, so Su Ziyang didn't think much of it and directly prescribed a bottle of Borneol and Borax Powder -Borneol and Borax Powder, telling him to go back and apply it to the numb and painful areas.
A week later, this man came and insisted on kowtowing to everyone.
He said he had been trying to cure his illness for a long time without success, but now he was suddenly cured, which made Su Ziyang very happy.
