Lily Bulb Disease
After a small meal, Liuzi noticed that Su Ziyang didn't really like Western food, but Fairy Li seemed to enjoy it very much.
Fairy Li is a complete foodie; she accepts everything offered and devours the dishes on the table with gusto.
When faced with delicious food, all notions of ladylike image and so on disappear.
"This child is good. He's a strong eater and easy to raise."
The elderly love to watch children wolf down their food, and Liuzi's mother was genuinely happy to see Fairy Li eating so heartily.
Haha. Look at the grease on your lips from eating!
Su Ziyang chuckled and handed Fairy Li a tissue.
"Is your cooking good, sister?"
Fairy Li wiped the oil from her lips, chuckled, and sincerely praised Liuzi.
Enjoying a meal is the greatest recognition of a chef's skills, so Liuzi was very happy.
After the meal, Liuzi invited the two to stay for tea. Liuzi always had good stuff. Although Su Ziyang didn't know how much that tea brick cost, he knew it was valuable just by looking at where Liuzi had stored it.
"Sister, please contact me anytime to check on this lady's situation."
Su Ziyang said this to Liuzi before he left.
In fact, after Liuzi's mother took about thirty more doses of the medicine, her symptoms completely disappeared. As for going to the hospital for a check-up, Liuzi did not take his mother there again.
In conclusion, the old lady remained healthy and did not experience any discomfort.
Back at the clinic, Su Ziyang sat in the consultation room and meticulously recorded the old lady's case, documenting it as his own experience.
In the late afternoon, a woman in her forties came in.
"Hello."
Su Ziyang asked the woman to sit down. After she sat down, Su Ziyang observed that her face was a little flushed, and she seemed somewhat uneasy, appearing a bit nervous.
"Hello, doctor."
The woman spoke softly, as if she were afraid of startling someone if she raised her voice even slightly.
"Hello. Take a break, catch your breath, and let me take your pulse."
Seeing that he looked unwell, Su Ziyang didn't say much and quietly said that he needed to take his pulse.
"Doctor, I've had this problem for a long time, and it's even made me unable to work. So you absolutely have to find a good way to cure me!"
The woman suddenly said this, Su Ziyang nodded, reassuring her, "Don't worry, I will definitely treat you carefully."
After Su Ziyang finished speaking, the woman suddenly fell silent for a while, then her eyes reddened, and she said in a sorrowful voice, "Right now, I mainly feel cold in my lower abdomen, and my hands and feet are also cold. It's worst when I wake up in the morning. I also feel very weak."
"Um!"
A good doctor should be a good listener and a good counselor.
Su Ziyang knew that at this time, all he needed to do was listen and say a few words appropriately to guide the patient to release their emotions, which would definitely be beneficial and harmless to the patient.
But what baffled Su Ziyang this time was that this woman... once she started crying, she just wouldn't stop.
And he would occasionally mutter strange phrases, such as things not going well at home, the kids being disobedient, or his husband being a nuisance.
Later, as the crying and sobbing grew louder, Su Ziyang could no longer understand what she was saying.
Then, strangely enough, the woman's voice started to change as she spoke, whether she had cried herself hoarse or something else, and it began to sound like a man's voice.
The more Su Ziyang listened, the more uneasy he felt, and the more frightened he became.
"But I feel really uncomfortable..."
At first, what he said had some logic, but later it became completely nonsensical, especially this sentence, which was spoken entirely in a man's voice.
This gave Su Ziyang goosebumps. Su Ziyang quickly took out the set of silver needles that Yang Tianzheng had given him from the drawer.
"This can't be some kind of ghost or spirit possession, can it?"
Su Ziyang was inwardly amazed and was about to insert the Thirteen Needles of the Ghost Gate.
But then I thought about it again, and that didn't make sense either.
If such an evil illness occurs, one should be able to see the dark, yin energy emanating from the woman's body.
However, upon closer inspection, apart from the somewhat disordered aura, no other abnormalities were found, which meant that it was not caused by possession by ghosts, gods, or demons.
"Stop! Stop!"
Su Ziyang gave a soft, authoritative shout, which immediately stopped the woman from crying. She stared blankly at Su Ziyang Su Ziyang.
"Don't cry!"
Su Ziyang then immediately said something very gently.
The woman nodded, still looking dazed.
There's water there, go get some and drink it yourself.
Looking at the woman's condition, Su Ziyang knew that if he didn't let her move around and scolded her, she wouldn't get better.
So Su Ziyang asked the woman to get some water. The woman probably had never seen a doctor like this before, and she obediently stood up, got a glass of water from the water dispenser, and sat back down.
After drinking a couple of sips of water, the woman's breathing became much calmer, and Su Ziyang began to take her pulse.
The pulses in both hands are thin and rapid, a clear indication of yin deficiency.
Looking at the tongue coating, the edges are red, while the coating itself is yellow.
"Besides the symptoms you just mentioned, do you also feel hot and restless in your palms and soles?"
After examining the tongue coating, Su Ziyang asked...
The woman nodded, indicating that what Su Ziyang said was indeed correct.
"I feel uncomfortable, sometimes hot and sometimes cold."
The woman didn't really want to drink water; she just held a disposable paper cup in her hand and lightly moistened her lips.
"How are your bowel movements? Is your stool dry?"
"No, bowel movements and urination are normal. I have one bowel movement a day, neither too dry nor too loose, which is fine. My urination may not be very frequent, but it's generally normal as well."
The woman had a very thorough understanding of her own situation.
"By the way, doctor, I sometimes feel a tingling or numb sensation all over my body, like an electric shock, which is quite uncomfortable."
Is your menstrual flow heavy?
"This is a lot, the quantity is always particularly large."
As mentioned before, when there is yin deficiency and excessive fire, the blood flow becomes more active, resulting in more bleeding.
As she spoke, the woman took a sheet from her backpack and handed it to Su Ziyang: "Doctor, look, this is some traditional Chinese medicine that a doctor prescribed for me before. I haven't gone to see her yet, but after taking this medicine, I can't sleep at all."
Su Ziyang opened the form and looked at it:
Cinnamon, Evodia rutaecarpa, Ligusticum chuanxiong, Angelica sinensis, Paeonia lactiflora, Paeonia suffruticosa, dried ginger, Pinellia ternata, Ophiopogon japonicus, Poria cocos, Codonopsis pilosula, Astragalus membranaceus...
This prescription is a modified version of Warm the Menses Decoction.
Regardless of whether one understands medical principles or not, just from a practical standpoint, just look at the name of this prescription: Warm the Menses Decoction.
It's a warm, hot medicine.
This woman was already diagnosed with yin deficiency by carefully examining her pulse.
It can be understood as a pot that was almost dry, with very little water left. You would need to add water, but this "Warm the Menses Decoction) was essentially "adding fuel to the fire."
It's practically impossible to fall asleep like that.
Yin deficiency is a primary factor.
In addition to emotional disorders, there are other complex abnormalities in bodily sensations.
All the symptoms point to one disease: Lily Disease.
This is also recorded in the medical classic, which describes the disease as follows.
"He is unable to eat, often silent, unable to lie down or walk, sometimes enjoying food, sometimes unable to smell its odor, feeling neither cold nor hot, bitter in his mouth, and dark in his urine. No medicine can cure him; if he takes medicine, he will vomit and have diarrhea. He seems to be under the influence of a spirit, his body is normal, and his pulse is weak and rapid."
All meridians share the same origin, and all of them can cause disease.
This means that the disease changes in many ways and is very strange, as if it were caused by a deity.
Su Ziyang recalled the woman's appearance just now; it was indeed as if she were haunted by a spirit, extremely eerie.
Because of its unusual nature, this disease is often misdiagnosed and treated by doctors.
Therefore, the medical sage Zhang Zhongjing also recorded prescriptions for correcting various misdiagnoses and incorrect treatments in his book.
If a diaphoretic is mistakenly used, Lily Bulb and Rehmannia Decoction should be used.
If a laxative is mistakenly used, Talc and Hematite Decoction should be used.
If you have mistakenly used emetics, you should drink Lily Bulb and Egg Decoction.
However, if the treatment has been incorrect without following the three methods of sweating, vomiting, and purging, then Lily Bulb and Rehmannia Decoction should be used.
Su Ziyang thought for a moment and then ordered two medicines on the computer.
27g of lily bulbs
16g of raw Rehmannia glutinosa
3 pay.
The prescription wasn't longer than three doses.
"Sister, are you from around here?"
Su Ziyang asked a question.
"Yes." The woman nodded.
"I'll prescribe three doses of medicine for you. Take them home, once a day, after meals. Come back for a follow-up appointment after you've finished the course!"
Su Ziyang gave her some instructions, and the woman nodded in agreement.
There are two explanations for the term "lily disease".
One explanation for the term "Lily Disease" is that it originates from a single meridian and presents with complex and varied symptoms, hence the name "Lily Disease."
Another explanation is that this disease requires the medicinal ingredient lily to be treated, hence the name "Lily Disease" derived from the medicinal ingredient.
However, in my personal opinion, the first statement seems more appropriate.
The explanation and record of this disease in "The Golden Mirror of Medicine" is as follows. "After a severe illness of typhoid fever, the lingering fever has not subsided, the pulse is not in harmony, or one is usually prone to excessive thinking and emotional distress, or one is occasionally frightened or suspicious, or suddenly encounters a situation, thus both the body and mind become ill, hence the present symptoms."
This means that after a serious illness, there is stagnant heat in the body, and the body's energy channels have not yet recovered and become harmonious. Furthermore, excessive thinking and emotional problems lead to illness in both the body and mind, resulting in various ailments.
The use of Lily Bulb and Rehmannia Decoction in the prescription can also explain this.
Lily Bulb and Rehmannia Decoction nourishes the heart and blood, tonifies lung yin, cools the blood and clears heat; it is the main prescription for treating "Lily Disease".
It is said that all the meridians originate from one source: the heart governs the blood vessels, and the lungs govern all the meridians.
Therefore, the disease location is more in the heart and lungs. So, according to the method of differentiation of syndromes based on the internal organs, it can be mainly inferred that the pathogenesis of lily disease is that the pathogenic heat is in the heart and lungs.
If there is heat in the heart and lungs, it will deplete qi and blood. If qi and blood are damaged internally, they cannot nourish the heart and spirit. Therefore, the heart cannot be the master of the spirit, and all the witnesses will appear to be the work of the spirit.
In his Leigong's Explanation of Processing and Medicinal Properties *, Li Zhongzi discusses the medicinal properties of lily:
It has a sweet taste, is neutral in nature and non-toxic, and enters the heart, lung, and large and small intestine meridians. It is mainly used to treat evil spirits and pathogenic factors, cough with blood due to heat, moisten the lungs and calm the mind, and relieve fright and strengthen the will.
The following is a description of Rehmannia glutinosa in the * Shennong's Classic of Materia Medica):
It tastes sweet and is cold in nature. It is mainly used for fractures, sprains, internal injuries, blood stasis, replenishing bone marrow, and promoting muscle growth. When used in soup, it can remove cold and heat accumulations and relieve numbness. The raw form is especially good.
Moreover, the two ingredients, Earth generates fire (two), and Heaven completes it (seven).
The second number is associated with the fire element, which corresponds to the mind and spirit in the human body. Therefore, it makes sense within the framework of the He Luo numerology.
Three days later, the woman arrived as promised.
Upon entering the house this time, the woman's demeanor was completely different from the last time; she was smiling and walked with a much lighter gait.
"Doctor, after taking your medicine for the second day, I felt instantly cooler, less irritable, and no longer hot. I feel so much better now!"
The woman spoke to Su Ziyang with great joy.
"Okay. It's good that you feel comfortable now."
Su Ziyang nodded, just as happy as the patient.
"Then I'll prescribe three more doses of medicine for you. Take them. After you finish them, you should be completely fine."
As soon as Su Ziyang finished speaking, the woman nodded repeatedly.
About ten days later, a middle-aged man suddenly came to the clinic and presented Su Ziyang with a brocade banner.
"This is?"
Su Ziyang was a little confused.
"That patient from last time... Doctor, to exaggerate a bit, you saved my whole family's life! My wife, she didn't go to work every day, she just stayed home crying. Ever since she took the herbal medicine from you last time, she hasn't cried or made a fuss anymore!"
The man, gripping Su Ziyang's hand, said excitedly, "My child just started high school. Because of his mother's antics, his grades have plummeted. She's constantly threatening divorce; who can stand that?!"
"Since taking the medicine, I've stopped being paranoid and feeling unwell. I've even gone back to work! Thank you, doctor! Thank you!"
Su Ziyang was both amused and exasperated by the man's tearful outburst.
"Brother, brother, calm down, calm down. There are still many patients in this hallway, and they're all watching you. You're a grown man, and you're crying like this. Won't people laugh at you?"
Su Ziyang patted the man on the shoulder and handed him two tissues.
The man blew his nose twice, wiped away his tears, shook Su Ziyang's hand again to express his gratitude, left the banner behind, and quickly left.
The man had just left when some nosy patients even huddled into Su Ziyang's room and whispered, "Doctor, what's wrong with that guy? Why was he crying so loudly?"
"Nothing's wrong. Nothing's wrong!"
Su Ziyang really didn't know what to say, so he just gave a couple of perfunctory replies and that was it.
Seeing that Su Ziyang didn't want to talk to him, the man felt bored and Dada off on his own.
As Su Ziyang was washing his hands, Fairy Li rushed in in a panic.
"Susu su..."
Fairy Li called out, panting heavily.
"What's wrong? What's wrong, my dear ancestors? Don't worry!"
Su Ziyang had never seen Fairy Li like this before, and he panicked. He quickly wiped his hands and helped Fairy Li, who was running out of breath.
"Xiao Xiao Su, um, um!!! It seems your master is about to emerge from seclusion!"
Fairy Li patted her chest to catch her breath and said.
"What did you say?!!!"
