A Bond Connected by the Umbilical Cord
The child in her belly grew quiet.
But before Qian Renxue could breathe a sigh of relief, her worst fear came true!
The little tyrant started moving around in her belly again!
"W-w-w-w-what on earth do you want?!"
Qian Renxue hurriedly lifted her skirt. Above her shapely, long, snow-white thighs, shifting outlines appeared on the surface of her swollen belly.
They were like waves, one after another.
She couldn't help wondering.
Can this thin layer of belly really withstand the Little Monster's sharp claws?
Qian Renxue really felt as though some monster was about to burst out of her belly at any moment!
She clenched the raised hem of her skirt tightly between her teeth and crossed her long legs, her expression full of vigilance.
Her two little hands stood guard on either side of her belly, ready to spring into action and grab the "monster" by the throat.
If she had a caring, gentle mother, a mother she could talk to often,
she would probably have known that this was perfectly normal fetal movement.
But growing up, the only people by her side had been a group of grandfathers and uncles.
There were many things she couldn't easily talk to her grandfathers about.
It had always been that way.
It had taken an old nanny at the Heaven Dou Imperial Palace to tell her that girls started having periods in their early teens.
Otherwise, on the day of her first period, she might even have seen the blood covering her legs and been so frightened that she grew weak and waited for death.
After the two of them remained at an impasse for a while, Qian Renxue finally spoke, her negotiating tone turning pleading.
"I'm sorry... I was just joking. I won't hit you again. Please, will you calm down?"
She had realized that the little guy was only moving around and didn't actually intend to burst out of her belly.
Most importantly, she didn't feel any pain.
Instead, she had a feeling that, somehow, she had formed a subtle, peculiar, symbiotic relationship with another life.
She could even hear the other little one's heartbeat.
Lin Luo knew Qian Renxue couldn't hear his thoughts, but he couldn't help speaking up anyway.
"You wanted me dead that badly? Am I not allowed to scare you a little? I've finished my radio calisthenics, and I can even do a set of military boxing in your belly. Believe it or not?"
But as a fetus, he couldn't actually make any exaggerated movements. At most, he could move his little hands and feet.
Lin Luo had a lot of complaints right now.
He had thought Qian Renxue's belly would be the safest shelter on the continent.
After all, it wasn't an exaggeration to say she was the most exalted girl on the continent.
But he had been completely wrong.
What kind of belly was this? This was an Asura field!
Although he had managed to avoid Bibi Dong's attack today, Qian Daoliu had already decided to sacrifice him to heaven on the day he was born.
Given Qian Daoliu's temper, his status, and the way he did things, those were definitely not empty words.
Lin Luo wasn't even sure he would live long enough to nurse.
Of course, he had absolutely no interest in suckling on boobies.
It was all just to gain Growth Value.
His goal was to reach the age of six as soon as he was born, the age at which he could awaken his Martial Soul.
He had to develop faster than Tang San.
Perhaps the standoff between a person and a belly had gone on too long.
Before long, Lin Luo could no longer hear Qian Renxue moving. He paid close attention and discovered that she had fallen asleep...
What an unreliable mom!
At least eat something when you wake up!
How am I supposed to gain Growth Value if you don't eat?
Qian Renxue hugged her legs, curled up at the foot of the bed, her golden hair stuck to the tears on her cheeks.
Only serenity remained on her lovely, endearing face.
In her sleep, Qian Renxue seemed to murmur a word.
"Mom."
Hearing her sleepy murmur, Lin Luo was suddenly taken aback.
Forget it. I'll let you off this once.
She's a poor girl who never had a mother's love, too.
This God King will rest for a while too. Radio calisthenics are exhausting.
The next day.
Granny Jones, a healing Soul Master, sat by Qian Renxue's bed, listening as Qian Renxue described the strange sight she had seen the day before.
Jones immediately broke into a wide smile.
Jones gently patted Qian Renxue's soft, fair hand and explained, "Young Mistress, what's there to be afraid of? That was fetal movement. It means your child is very healthy."
"You can think of it as him saying hello to you. The child can't wait to meet his mother."
Hearing that, Qian Renxue couldn't help showing her disgust, her delicate cheeks cold.
"I don't want to be a mother. He can call whoever he likes 'Mom.' Once he's born, I'll throw him away."
Inside her belly, Lin Luo sneered.
Granny Jones chuckled and shook her head. She could more or less guess what was going on.
Jones said slowly:
"Young Mistress, there is a kind of bond in this world connected by the umbilical cord. It can even give an ordinary woman enough courage to shake a mountain."
"And you will have it too."
Qian Renxue fell into a complicated silence.
Her own bond of that kind had vanished the moment another woman cut the umbilical cord.
So the very thought of that bond made Qian Renxue feel resistant.
The old woman went on with a smile, "Aren't you looking forward to hearing him call you 'Mom'? To your ears, it might become the most beautiful sound in the world."
Qian Renxue turned her head away coldly. "Impossible. When he's born, I'll strangle him."
Jones: "..."
Lin Luo continued to sneer.
Call her Mom?
The day this God King is born, this God King will strangle you with the umbilical cord, you little brat!
Lin Luo was regretting his decision to live as a parasite in Qian Renxue's belly more and more.
Seeing that Qian Renxue wouldn't listen to reason but was in good condition, the old woman felt reassured.
She said earnestly:
"Young Mistress, you need to eat. Although you don't need food for your cultivation, the child does. Everyone wants to see what the child looks like when he's born safe and sound. This little one is Spirit Hall's own little young master."
"I know. Thank you, Granny Jones."
Qian Renxue responded as absentmindedly as ever.
Granny Jones didn't know that Spirit Hall's upper echelon, including Qian Renxue herself, were all planning to kill the soon-to-be-born "little young master."
Jones stood up, and as though she had remembered something, hurriedly said, "Young Mistress, being pregnant can be very boring. You can do some things you find interesting."
Qian Renxue looked up. "Like what?"
Jones smiled kindly. "Think of a nice name for the child, or get some pretty little clothes and dresses ready in advance."
Qian Renxue's mouth twitched awkwardly when she heard that, and she gave a perfunctory reply.
After Jones and the servants left,
Qian Renxue leaned against the headboard and instinctively placed her hand on her belly. Suddenly, her interest was piqued.
"Will it be a girl?"
For some reason, Qian Renxue suddenly pictured herself braiding a little girl's hair and dressing her in little skirts.
She'd be so cute.
But the thought vanished in a flash, and Qian Renxue's expression dimmed again.
"Forget it. She can only live for five months. Why should I care about any of that?"
Though that was what she thought, Qian Renxue obediently got out of bed to eat a little while later.
Lin Luo, however, couldn't help grumbling inwardly.
But I'm a boy. Surprised? Delighted?
