Baby Trains for the Competition, Shocking the Academy Head
Bang!
When they reached the classroom, Yan slammed the door of Class One open.
The three of them and the baby stood awkwardly in the doorway, panting as they stared at their homeroom teacher, Mailun, on the platform.
"You're late aga-oh, Yiya, you just got here too. All right, never mind. Go take your seats."
Mailun, who had been about to lose his temper, suddenly smiled. The speed at which his expression changed defied the heavens.
The three at the door exchanged glances and couldn't help grumbling inwardly that, after all the times they had been late, this really was the friendliest Mailun had ever been.
It was also further proof that Brother Baby's identity really was no simple matter.
But when they reached their seats, it was Lin Luo's turn to be shocked.
They had actually gotten him a baby seat that looked extremely comfortable!
Compared with the desks around it, the baby seat really was... a little comical, and completely out of place.
Has my identity been exposed?
Otherwise, why would they be treating me so well?
But Lin Luo didn't hurry to sit down. He used baby talk to tell Hu Liena that he was going to the training grounds for a "morning run." After class, the team could find him there, and they could practice fighting together and getting used to one another.
Everyone watched as Brother Baby swaggered out of class. Their homeroom teacher, Mailun, even smiled as he saw him off.
After Lin Luo left, Mailun's expression turned serious. "Yesterday, everyone was assigned to a team. In one week, we'll hold the selection for the class team, so make the most of your time and train."
At that, Mailun looked at Xie Yue, Yan, and Hu Liena.
"Hu Liena, the other four members of your team... might hold you back quite a bit. The three of you will have to work hard."
"After all, no matter how strong three people are, they'll have trouble facing seven. I'm really hoping you three can represent Spirit Hall Academy at the Empire Freshmen Exchange Conference."
Hu Liena nodded. "We will, teacher."
To be honest, she had suddenly lost confidence too.
Yiya was a baby, after all, while Sai Kaka and Luo Ya had been assigned to their team because they were too weak and no one else wanted them as teammates.
As for Miao Duoduo, who had volunteered, his strength was still unknown, but judging by what their homeroom teacher had said, he was probably a good-for-nothing too.
"Damn it."
Sitting in the back row, Miao Duoduo gritted his teeth, deeply embarrassed and annoyed.
"My Soul Power may only be level six, but that's because I just awakened my Martial Soul. I'll put up with you calling me weak, but how could you belittle my Brother Baby? He's a one-ring powerhouse who's only a few months old!"
His chunni declaration drew no one's interest.
In fact, everyone regarded Hu Liena and the other two as formidable opponents in the competition.
But when they heard that the other four members of their team were a bunch of oddballs, everyone immediately breathed a sigh of relief. Some even gloated.
No matter how strong those three were, how could they win first place in the selection trials while carrying three good-for-nothings and a baby?
That was nothing more than a fool's dream.
The training grounds.
Since classes were still in session, the training grounds were quite empty.
Lin Luo was happy with that. After all, no one would interrupt him as he farmed steps.
But he was so absorbed in farming steps that he didn't notice seven people slowly approaching from the direction of the office building, chatting as though they were out for a stroll.
At the center of the group was an old man with a full head of white hair, dressed in a long red-and-gold robe.
He was Lor Diarra, one of the four Platinum Bishops and the current head of Spirit Hall Academy.
The six people following behind Head Diyala were the grade directors for Spirit Hall Academy's six grades.
Su Tanjie, the first-year grade director, was among them, listening attentively to the academy head.
Diyala said, "I've asked around. Star Luo Royal Academy has already chosen its freshman team. Their captain is the Star Luo emperor's eldest son, Dai Weisi. His Martial Soul is the White Tiger, and he's very talented."
"What about the freshman captain over at Heaven Dou Royal Academy, Yu Tianheng? Have you heard of him?"
With a faint, ambiguous smile, Diyala tossed the question to the six people behind him.
Hearing this, Su Tanjie looked startled. "His surname is Yu. Could he be...?"
Diyala narrowed his eyes slightly. "That's right, the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon..."
"The freshmen the two great empires have sent this time are all first-rate little geniuses. Heh, one dragon and one tiger. They really have come this time with the aim of striking a blow against Spirit Hall's new generation."
Seeing Head Diyala's gloomy expression, Su Tanjie immediately put on an ingratiating smile. "You can rest assured, Head. The students of first-year Class One aren't weak either. Several of the children are absolutely fine prospects, and among them... there's one little prospect who truly defies the heavens."
Diyala said, "Hmph, that's what you told me last time too, and what happened?! The freshmen from our Spirit Hall Academy were beaten black and blue by the freshmen from the two great empires. Some even cried and begged for mercy in the arena!"
"We lost every scrap of face we had!"
"The freshmen the two great empires sent last time were barely even average, and you lot? What the hell did you do?!"
"This time they've sent the true favored children of heaven! I see even less hope of winning!"
As Diyala raged, the six grade directors fell silent, none daring to speak, though most of them were enjoying Su Tanjie's predicament.
There was nothing he could do about it. He was the first-year director, after all.
The sixth-year director, however, couldn't laugh.
He was under even greater pressure, because his students would soon be taking part in this year's Continental Advanced Soul Master Academy Elite Tournament...
Diyala snorted coldly and continued, "Never mind how strong the freshmen of first-year Class One are for now. The exchange conference is about to begin, yet I haven't even seen them training on the training grounds!"
"Where's their sense of urgency? Did a dog eat it?"
As soon as he finished speaking, Diyala suddenly raised an eyebrow. Out of the corner of his eye, he seemed to have glimpsed something crawling rapidly across the training grounds ahead.
He suddenly thought his old eyes were playing tricks on him, so he couldn't help squinting and looking over.
When he saw clearly, he looked astonished.
"Since when was there a baby in the academy?"
The baby was crawling around and around the training grounds with all his might. He was moving fast, unlike a normal baby.
Su Tanjie froze, his eyes widening as he stared.
Seeing the academy head's astonishment, he immediately spoke up solemnly. "Head! There's your sense of urgency! Isn't that exactly what it is?! Look how hard that Class One freshman is training!"
"What the hell?"
The grade directors all looked over.
A Class One freshman?? A baby?? Training hard here first thing in the morning for the exchange conference??
That was an explosion of information.
The academy head frowned. "What's going on here?"
Su Tanjie knew the baby would be hard to explain now that the academy head had seen him, so he simply came clean about everything.
A minute later.
Diyala said, "You're telling me a baby has a Martial Soul and a Soul Ring? How is that possible?"
Su Tanjie said seriously, "Lord Salas can vouch for it!"
Now that Su Tanjie had brought up Salas, Diyala believed he wouldn't be lying. This immediately made him extremely curious.
Su Tanjie said, "Head, look how hard Yiya is working. He's training for the competition first thing in the morning."
Diyala said, "He's taking part in Class One's team selection too?"
"That's right!"
"Good, good, good. Interesting, interesting."
A look of intense interest suddenly appeared on Diyala's aged face.
Just then, the bell rang for the end of class. The other six members of the team had agreed to meet at the training grounds, and now they came running over from the classroom building.
Seeing this, Su Tanjie immediately pointed in their direction. "Look, Head! Those are his teammates. They should be about to start training."
Diyala frowned. "His teammates aren't even as conscious of the situation as a little baby. Why are they still attending classes at a time like this? They should be throwing themselves straight into training!"
"You five, don't be in such a hurry to leave. Stay with me and see how strong the children of Class One are!"
Despite his words, Diyala's gaze was fixed on Lin Luo.
He still couldn't believe a little baby had a Martial Soul, but Salas had confirmed it.
