I Would Buy Osmanthus and Carry Wine Together
July was the hottest time of the year.
Chen Rongrong was too embarrassed to tell Zhou Yuwen what her life was like. Her room didn't even have air conditioning.
Whenever she wanted to cool off, she had to go to her uncle and aunt's room.
And she had to ask permission to use the air conditioning.
As for going to the supermarket, she could certainly pick out more things there, too.
She remembered going to the supermarket once with her aunt and younger cousin. Chen Rongrong had been quite happy and wanted to pick out a few extra bags of snacks.
But at checkout, her aunt Liu Mei had still been smiling as she discreetly took out every bag of snacks Chen Rongrong had chosen. As she removed them, she said, "These are all junk food. There's no nutrition in them."
"And they make you fat easily. Aren't you trying to lose weight, Rongrong? You can't eat these."
"And this drink, too. Drinking too much can affect your brain. Your college entrance exam is coming up, Rongrong, so you can't drink this either."
In the end, there wasn't a single one of those things left in the cart.
Chen Rongrong had felt really awful, but she couldn't say so.
Being with Zhou Yuwen had unlocked the door to a whole new world for her.
Yet Zhou Yuwen hadn't actually done much. At most, he'd let her choose a few extra pieces of meat when they ate malatang.
Really, Zhou Yuwen immediately took a liking to this girl.
Sometimes he felt she really was innocent and romantic.
When she went out with Zhou Yuwen, Chen Rongrong wore a loose gray sweatshirt with black yoga pants and little white socks. Her beautiful hair was jet-black.
With her height and long legs, she looked good without having to put any particular effort into what she wore.
It felt as though she already regarded Zhou Yuwen as her guardian.
As they ate malatang, she smiled and said, looking a little eager to please, "Can I get another skewer of chicken and cartilage? Hee-hee?"
Zhou Yuwen told her to go ahead.
"Can I get another fish tofu skewer?"
"Take whatever you like. You don't need to ask me."
Chen Rongrong pursed her lips. It was hard to tell whether the expression on her face was happiness or embarrassment.
It was no wonder she was so careful. She was afraid Zhou Yuwen would look down on her; after all, as far as she knew, not everyone was as nice as he was.
While they waited for their food, Chen Rongrong wiped both her and Zhou Yuwen's chopsticks with tissue, then rinsed them in hot water.
Looking at it that way, Chen Rongrong was quite thoughtful.
After they finished their malatang, Chen Rongrong rubbed her round little belly and said she was stuffed.
"Are we going back? Will you teach me to play games?"
Chen Rongrong had planned to head back after eating.
Zhou Yuwen told her to wait.
"Let's go to the supermarket first and buy some snacks to take back with us."
"Buy snacks!?"
Chen Rongrong felt that this was a life only immortals could enjoy. They bought bag after bag of snacks and drinks.
Her dainty figure darted happily around the supermarket. She wanted to taste this and try that.
Whenever she picked something up, she would cast Zhou Yuwen a tentative look and ask if she could buy it.
Zhou Yuwen pushed the cart behind her, smiling and nodding as he watched how cute she was.
He told her to just take whatever she liked.
"I can afford to take care of you."
Zhou Yuwen said it casually, but for some reason, Chen Rongrong's nose suddenly prickled. She turned around and buried her head in his arms.
Zhou Yuwen kissed her cheek beside her ear and stroked her head. "What's wrong?"
"I feel like you're just like my dad," Chen Rongrong said softly, acting coquettishly.
"Then call me Daddy," Zhou Yuwen said.
"Daddy." Chen Rongrong barely hesitated.
Perhaps she'd wanted to call him that for a long time. Deep down, she truly longed for a father's love. She hadn't known Zhou Yuwen for long, but when she was with him, she didn't have to think about or do anything.
Wasn't that just like being with her dad?
It had been a long time since she'd felt protected and cherished like this.
So she really didn't feel burdened at all calling him Daddy.
That form of address, however, made the thirty-year-old man's heart soften a little.
Zhou Yuwen stroked Chen Rongrong's head. "What else do you want to eat? Let's buy plenty, then go back to the hotel and play games!"
"Mm-hmm!"
At eighteen or nineteen, getting a room at an esports hotel with a decent atmosphere, then buying all your favorite snacks and drinks.
Most importantly, having the girl you loved by your side.
That kind of happiness was something driving a luxury car and living in a mansion at thirty could never give you.
For the next few days, Zhou Yuwen and Chen Rongrong barely went out. They stayed in the hotel, playing games and sleeping.
In his previous life, Zhou Yuwen hadn't been in contact with Chen Rongrong when he was thirty, but he had heard about her from friends. They said she was vain and materialistic, and that all she posted on her Moments was Gucci and Chanel.
Or trips to this place or that.
But Chen Rongrong had none of that now. Staying with Zhou Yuwen in this little room, she couldn't help remarking, "If only we could stay like this forever."
"Like what?"
"Like this. Living in a hotel, with games to play and you here with me."
"You're not going to college? Not becoming a flight attendant?" Zhou Yuwen asked.
"What's the point of that?"
Zhou Yuwen played games with Chen Rongrong. They started with League of Legends, but after two matches, she found it boring.
She didn't want to play anymore.
Zhou Yuwen thought about the games he'd played later in life and downloaded a single-player game called Don't Starve for Chen Rongrong.
The game was easy to pick up, and it could be played online with others.
Sure enough, Chen Rongrong liked it as soon as she started playing and was delighted.
The two gathered resources and built a home together.
Chen Rongrong said Zhou Yuwen was the man, so he should go out hunting and chopping trees.
She was the woman, so she would stay home, cook, and make crafts.
She would weave animal traps for Zhou Yuwen and have him catch rabbits.
They played the little game until three in the morning, finally managing to build the beginnings of a home.
Chen Rongrong stretched.
She wore a white T-shirt Zhou Yuwen had brought from home. His clothes were a size too big for her, but she still filled the T-shirt out.
Stretching lazily, she said, "Now we have plenty of food. We won't have to worry about the harsh winter."
"Husband."
After stretching, Chen Rongrong rose from her seat on her long legs, straddled Zhou Yuwen's lap, and leaned against his shoulder. "I'm sleepy."
"Then shall I take you to bed?" Zhou Yuwen asked.
"Mm-hmm!"
So Zhou Yuwen held Chen Rongrong by the thighs and carried her to bed.
He didn't know whether it was because it was her first time. In any case, Zhou Yuwen had had quite a few girlfriends in his previous life.
Yet none of them had given him the feeling Chen Rongrong did.
The first night Zhou Yuwen slept with Chen Rongrong, it hadn't taken him much effort. She had refused at first, but her body couldn't lie.
