Douluo Continent: Simulating Douluo Dalu III, Tricking Tang San at Every Turn
Tang Hao's strength had fallen to the Soul Douluo level after he lost an arm. If they truly fought to the death, Gong Yu would naturally be at a disadvantage, but the Soul Tools he carried, some as high as level six, were no pushovers either.
Besides, Tang Hao no longer had the strength of a Titled Douluo and could no longer fly, while Gong Yu had a pair of External Soul Bone wings. That was the main reason he dared confront Tang Hao head-on.
If he couldn't win, he could simply fly away. Tang Hao couldn't fly anymore, so why should he fear a cripple?
Tang Hao didn't dare underestimate Gong Yu's Golden Dragon Claw. He immediately retreated several steps while summoning his Clear Sky Hammer and swinging it.
The first strike of the Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer collided with the Golden Dragon Claw.
Boom! The impact shook the heavens.
Even the air was thrown into turmoil. Tang Hao was knocked back five or six steps before he stopped, his hand numb from the impact.
"Not bad. That attack was no weaker than a level 75's, but it was still a little lacking!" After steadying himself, Tang Hao looked at Ling Yun and said coldly, "But if that's all you're capable of, this will be your burial ground today."
Gong Yu snorted coldly again. "It's not certain whose burial ground this will be! Hmph... Golden Dragon Roar."
He directly activated the power of his Golden Dragon King Bloodline and unleashed the Golden Dragon King's roar skill. The thunderous bellow once again caught Tang Hao off guard. Gong Yu wouldn't enter his attack range, so his hammer couldn't reach him!
Tang Hao kept swinging his great hammer, stirring up waves of humming in the air to disrupt Gong Yu's roar.
Of course, Tang Hao was also using the Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer to build up power as he did so.
Gong Yu naturally saw what Tang Hao had in mind. He brushed his fingers over his Soul Tool, and five level-five Soul Tool bombs appeared in his hand.
Immediately afterward, Gong Yu flicked his hand, sending the five Soul Tool bombs flying straight at Tang Hao in a bombardment.
"Tang Hao, I don't have time to play with you for now. Just you wait. In a few years, I'll deal with you properly. Until we meet again."
With those words, Gong Yu spread his External Soul Bone wings and flew away. Since Tang Hao hadn't truly exerted himself yet, he had to run while he could. As things stood, he really couldn't beat that cripple.
Tang Hao, meanwhile, was left dizzy and disoriented by Gong Yu's furious bombardment. It was the first time he had encountered such a fighting style.
Level-five Soul Tool bombs couldn't hurt Tang Hao, who had the strength of a Soul Douluo, but they could still hold him up if they caught him by surprise.
By the time the explosions subsided, Gong Yu was nowhere to be found.
With a sigh, Tang Hao turned back the way he had come to protect his son. He touched his chest and found a little blood on his hand. Clearly, the five Soul Tool bombs had wounded him after all, though only lightly!
Chapter 104: Slaughter City
After ten days of sleeping under the stars and eating in the wind, a small town finally appeared ahead.
A different feeling arose in Gong Yu's heart. He had thought he would have to search for a while longer. After all, it was his first time coming here, and Slaughter City wasn't marked on any map of the Douluo Continent.
Before setting out, Gong Yu had only known that Slaughter City was in a small town north of the Heaven Dou Empire, about ten days to half a month's journey north from the Blue Silver Forest.
In the end, though, he had found it.
The town didn't look large, but as soon as Gong Yu stepped inside, he felt that the atmosphere around him was rather strange.
He couldn't say why, but he kept feeling a peculiar chill from the people around him.
He approached a dilapidated tavern. Its decorations were all black, and the air inside was foul, like the small internet cafés he had visited in his previous life. It smelled awful.
Though it was daytime, a gloomy chill seemed to seep from every corner of the tavern.
The tavern wasn't large, but it wasn't exactly small either. About thirty percent of its seats were occupied, mostly by rough-looking men. Some were bare-chested, while others kept standing up as they spoke, planting one foot on a stool to show off their imposing manner.
Gong Yu's arrival drew plenty of attention. Some even looked at him and licked their lips, as if they had spotted a particularly appealing plaything!
Ignoring their gazes, Gong Yu walked straight to an empty table in the corner and sat down.
"What would you like?" A waiter with an indifferent expression came over and asked Gong Yu.
"Can we begin?" Gong Yu didn't order anything. He wasn't about to drink Bloody Mary, but he could kill all these people. As long as he could enter Slaughter City, that was all that mattered.
The waiter ignored Gong Yu. Since he wasn't ordering anything, the waiter turned and walked away.
"Where'd this greenhorn come from? Doesn't even know how to order." A bare-chested brute with a face full of flesh walked over to Gong Yu and was about to put a hand on his shoulder.
Gong Yu wasn't about to let some stranger touch him. Without a word, he grabbed a handful of chopsticks from the table and drove them into the brute's right eye at extreme speed.
Gong Yu had moved so quickly and unexpectedly that the bare-chested brute had no time to react. A handful of chopsticks was suddenly lodged in his right eye.
The bare-chested brute fell to the ground. Blood seeped out around his right eye, along with something that looked like the white of an eyeball. It resembled brain matter, but clearly wasn't.
The brute screamed and struggled in pain, the chopsticks still embedded in his eye. He wanted to pull them out but didn't quite dare. When he finally made up his mind, he drew a deep breath and yanked them out, bringing an eyeball with them.
"Kill him!" the brute shouted to his accomplices nearby.
A fight was about to erupt.
The brute's accomplices drew daggers and stabbed straight at Gong Yu. Several attacked from extremely tricky angles, clearly showing their experience.
Once one group started fighting, the entire tavern descended into chaos, with several groups brawling together.
Gong Yu used his movement technique to evade their attacks, then killed his attackers with a backhand. His movements were concise, aimed straight at their vital points for a kill with every strike. He didn't want to waste too much effort.
"This is a test! A test Slaughter City has given us! Kill him, and we can enter Slaughter City!" Someone shouted, and everyone's eyes turned red as they charged at Gong Yu like madmen.
A cold smile curled Gong Yu's lips. He didn't summon his Martial Soul, instead taking a long staff from his Soul Tool, one he had forged in imitation of the Coiling Dragon Staff.
With his unpredictable movement technique and the formidable Unyielding Staff Technique, he struck down almost one person with each blow. In moments, all twenty-odd people were dead.
"May I go in now?" After killing everyone, Gong Yu went over to the waiter from before and asked indifferently.
Gong Yu hadn't even ordered a Bloody Mary, and the waiter was reluctant to acknowledge him, but he ultimately nodded. Whether one drank a Bloody Mary or not wasn't part of the test. The test was that only the last person alive was qualified to enter Slaughter City.
The waiter pushed the tavern's bar aside, revealing a huge hole in the floor.
A bitterly cold wind blew up from the bottom of the hole.
Without any hesitation, Gong Yu leaped in. Darkness surrounded his body in an instant, swallowing him whole.
He fell only a few meters into the darkness before his feet touched solid ground. He needed no light; the Purple Demon Eye allowed him to see everything clearly in the dark. Come to think of it, the Tang Sect's Purple Demon Eye really was useful.
A long passage sloped downward before him. Icy air constantly brushed against Gong Yu's body, but he strode onward.
Before he had gone far, an icy voice suddenly came from all directions. "Welcome to Slaughter City. This is the capital of hell, a world filled with slaughter. Here, you can obtain everything you desire, at the cost of your life."
After walking a little farther, a light ahead rapidly grew larger in his vision. It came from an open doorway, and there were signs of life on the other side.
He strode forward as a clamor reached his ears. Soon, he saw a group of people clad entirely in black armor.
Even their faces were completely hidden by their helmets, and each carried a heavy sword.
One man alone sat upright on a towering warhorse, which was also covered in thick black armor.
"You meet the rules. You may pass," said the mounted man.
To Gong Yu's surprise, the man didn't say he had broken the rules. Gong Yu had thought he would have to fight another battle!
In fact, the test outside did require the last person alive to enter Slaughter City, but that person also had to kill everyone without using a Martial Soul or Soul Skill to meet the rules. Gong Yu had stumbled into meeting them by sheer coincidence.
"This is your number plate. Keep it safe. From now on, you have no name in Slaughter City, only a number." The mounted armored soldier held out a black plate to Gong Yu and spoke indifferently.
Gong Yu casually accepted it and looked down. A skull was engraved on the plate, with a number beneath it: 9527.
The number startled Gong Yu. At the sight of 9527, a feeling of nostalgia for the Hong Kong films of his previous life welled up from the bottom of his heart. The number was simply too familiar.
The mounted man in black armor added, "Go on. Your number plate is your proof of identity in Slaughter City. Please enter the city. Someone will meet you at the gate."
Clutching the plate, Gong Yu strode forward. From beginning to end, he hadn't exchanged another word with the man in black armor, nor had he given the Terror Knight another glance.
Looking in the direction he was headed, Gong Yu saw a black city.
Its thick black walls were extremely broad. It really was a city, and a purple moon hung in the sky above it.
The moon was low, seemingly only a few hundred meters above the ground. Higher up, everything was black, just like the night sky.
Chapter 105: Hell Slaughter Arena
He walked up to the pitch-black city gate, which gave off an extremely oppressive feeling. High above the enormous gate hung the words "Slaughter City."
Two rows of black-armored warriors stood silently before the gate. Before Gong Yu could show the identity plate in his hand, a woman with a black veil over her face came out from inside.
"Welcome to Slaughter City." The woman had a pleasant voice. She came before Gong Yu, stepped aside, and gestured for him to enter.
He followed the woman through the gate. His identity plate showed that he was a newcomer under a newcomer protection period, so no one stopped him.
Inside the city, Gong Yu saw a world of blue and purple.
The lamps hanging along both sides of the streets gave off only those two colors of light.
To his surprise, there were quite a few people here, and no one paid him any attention as an outsider.
Aside from everything appearing so gloomy, at first glance it seemed no different from an ordinary city.
"I am your guide. You may ask me anything you don't understand, and for twelve hours, I will answer all your questions. After those twelve hours, this will be where you live, and you will officially become a member of Slaughter City," the woman said again.
"All right, I know the rules. There's no need for a lengthy introduction. Take me straight to the Hell Slaughter Arena," Gong Yu said calmly. Listening to her explain everything at length would only waste time.
"You know about Hell... All right, but are you sure? Fewer than one in ten people who enter that place come out alive. Each person is only required to enter the Hell Slaughter Arena once a year. As long as you make it through one fight, you can live another year in Slaughter City." The girl in black was taken aback, a little surprised that a newcomer knew so much.
"I'm sure," Gong Yu said indifferently. "Let's go now."
"In that case, please follow me." Only then did the black-veiled girl lead him farther into the city. She kept an even pace, staying beside Gong Yu and only half a step ahead of him.
Before long, they reached the inner city. Life here was depraved; rather than a paradise of sin, it was more like a world of beasts.
"Come on, the Hell Slaughter Arena is just ahead. It's the heart of Slaughter City." Led by the black-veiled girl, Gong Yu saw an unusual building.
The building was circular, or more precisely, an irregular cone. It was widest at the bottom and narrowed as it rose.
At roughly thirty meters above the ground, it stopped narrowing and continued upward at the same diameter, all the way to fifty meters.
The Hell Slaughter Arena occupied quite a large area, though it was somewhat smaller than the various Great Soul Arenas Gong Yu had visited.
The black building felt oppressive. The black-veiled girl explained to Gong Yu that the Hell Slaughter Arena stood at the very center of Slaughter City, showing just how important it was to the city.
Gong Yu said, "Tell me the rules for fighting here."
The black-veiled girl said, "They're simple. Once inside, use your identity plate to register, then wait for the match to begin. Fighting isn't allowed while you wait. Each group entering the arena has ten people. No matter what methods you use, all that matters is that you come out alive at the end. Of the ten, only one survives."
"Can I go in and watch?" Gong Yu asked.
"You can, but not for free," the black-veiled girl said. "It costs one cup of Bloody Mary, yours or someone else's. However, you're still under newcomer protection. If you attack someone to take theirs, it will be considered an act of provocation, and your protection will be revoked."
Gong Yu smiled faintly. "It doesn't matter."
With those words, he walked straight up to a bald brute and, without wasting a word, snatched the cup of Bloody Mary from his hand in a few quick moves.
The brute did resist, but in less than half a minute, Gong Yu had dislocated almost every joint in his body. Gong Yu didn't kill him, leaving him there to await death. With his joints dislocated and his ability to move gone, he wouldn't survive a minute in the inner city.
"Let's go," Gong Yu said calmly to the somewhat stunned black-veiled girl, a cup of Bloody Mary in his hand.
"You..." This was the first time the black-veiled girl had seen Gong Yu fight, and the sight had shaken her. If she remembered correctly, that bald brute had been the sole survivor of several slaughter matches, yet that sole survivor had proved so vulnerable.
Before long, the black-veiled girl brought Gong Yu inside the arena. He watched casually for a few moments and found it dull.
Gong Yu immediately said, "Take me to register. I'm entering the next match."
The black-veiled girl gave Gong Yu an interested look. It was rare for such an interesting newcomer to arrive, one who even thought his newcomer protection period was too long.
But judging by the strength Gong Yu had shown earlier, she couldn't help feeling a trace of fear. She nodded without hesitation, took the identity plate he handed her, and went off.
Ten minutes later, Gong Yu's first slaughter match since arriving in Slaughter City began.
There wasn't much to say about the fight. In just a few moves, Gong Yu killed all nine opponents and became the match's sole survivor.
A month passed quickly. Gong Yu's victories in the Hell Slaughter Arena had climbed to thirty, just as he had originally planned: one match a day.
In the first few days, some people had tried to ambush him in private, but fewer and fewer dared to do so now.
Fewer didn't mean none, however, because the opponents who came to ambush him were getting stronger and stronger.
As his number of victories increased, he learned of another rule: in each new match, the opponents he faced could not have fought more than five fewer matches in the Hell Slaughter Arena than he had.
The exception was when everyone else had fought more than five fewer matches than he had. That also meant it would be nearly impossible for him to keep fighting one match a day.
Since he couldn't do it, he let it be. After each match, he simply registered for the next one; he would naturally be notified once it was arranged. With nothing else to do in the remaining time, he kept busy with his own affairs.
In Slaughter City, what was there to keep busy with besides slaughter?
Others might have had nothing, but Gong Yu did. With time on his hands, he picked up Simulation, which he hadn't used in years.
He had run a simulation three days earlier and had finally completed the inheritance covering One-Word through Four-Word Battle Armor Masters.
So, in his spare time, he began upgrading his One-Word Battle Armor.
It was rather funny. Others came to Slaughter City and spent every day doing nothing but killing and fighting, while Gong Yu was forging metal at his residence.
He had slaughtered everyone living around his residence, so he was now the only person living in that entire area. No one else dared enter.
