Supplies and Calamity Rats
The Lost Land was a mysterious supernatural world buried by evil spirits and evil beasts.
Everyone from Blue Star who entered would be sent to a random, unknown area.
With good luck, they could find strange treasures, precious materials for building shelters against evil spirits and evil beasts, special supernatural items, or even runes that would let them step onto the Transcendent Sequence. The last, of course, was far too rare.
With bad luck, they might immediately encounter evil spirits or evil beasts and be killed on the spot.
The Lost Land was shrouded in darkness, visibility was extremely poor, and evil spirits and evil beasts roamed freely, so finding resources was extremely difficult.
But now...
Cao Fengqi looked at the information in his field of vision. Arrows pointed in different directions, with distances displayed above them.
It was exactly like the cheat in his game.
Other people have to search for supplies bit by bit, but I can scan for them directly.
His heart burning with excitement, Cao Fengqi gripped his Dark Iron Staff and headed for the nearest level 2 supply.
[Level 2 supply, 10 meters away...] There was an arrow pointing the way, too.
[8 meters away...]
[1.2 meters away...]
When Cao Fengqi reached a distance of 1.2 meters, his gaze fell on the muddy ground.
"It's two meters underground? Who could possibly find it?"
He couldn't help muttering.
No wonder supplies were so hard to find. Who would dig into the ground for no reason? Without detection equipment, trying to find resources by digging was like looking for a needle in a haystack.
Without hesitation, Cao Fengqi used his staff to dig into the ground.
"Bang! Bang! Bang!"
Fortunately, the ground wasn't very hard. With Cao Fengqi's decent strength and the cheat's positioning, he had dug more than a meter deep after ten minutes.
Ignoring the filthy mud, he lay down and pulled it out.
[Moon Spirit Stone: level 2 quality] [Effect: once ignited, it releases moon spirit light, which is quite effective at driving away weak evil spirits and evil beasts. Burns for 12 hours.]
"A Moon Spirit Stone? It's actually a Moon Spirit Stone, and I just found one?"
Cao Fengqi looked at the stone, delight spreading across his face.
There were many kinds of supplies: metals, herbs, fruits, weapons, equipment, and even potions and runes.
Metal supplies were the easiest to obtain and were also used to build shelters.
Moon Spirit Stones were consumables, each burning for only 12 hours, but they were quite valuable.
With some evil spirits and evil beasts recently becoming able to break through level 3 shelters, Moon Spirit Stones had become especially important to a family.
When night fell, everyone knew whether to use a Moon Spirit Stone to strengthen their defenses or gamble on evil spirits not coming to their door.
"Keep going!"
Cao Fengqi put the Moon Spirit Stone in his backpack and headed eagerly toward the next supply.
[Level 1 supply, 210 meters away...]
Cao Fengqi followed the directions and soon arrived.
"At least it's not underground."
He bent down, pushed aside the mud, and reached in.
The next second, his scalp tingled.
"Fuck!"
Cao Fengqi flung away the thing in his hand, his expression changing drastically.
It was a skeleton. The level 1 supply was the battered armor on its body.
"Phew!" He took a deep breath and calmed himself down.
"It's nothing. In a creepy world like this, it couldn't be more ordinary."
Cao Fengqi reassured himself, then steeled himself and went over to strip the battered armor off the skeleton.
[Battered black iron armor: level 1 quality] [Effect: armor forged from black iron. It is battered, but can still be used after repairs, or used to build a level 1 shelter.]
"At this value, even a hundred jin would only get me a fried bug."
Cao Fengqi assessed it.
After all, the Forgotten Land had been "live" for ten years, and level 1 supplies weren't much use anymore.
Still, remembering the deliciously crispy bugs Dabao and Xiaobao had eaten, he swallowed and put the battered black iron armor away.
[Scan of the one-kilometer radius complete. Two new level 1 supplies and one new level 2 supply detected.]
At that moment, the cheat's information updated.
"Huh?"
"Another level 2 supply appeared within a kilometer? Wouldn't I be better off looking for that?"
"Why waste time on this level 1 supply?"
"Smack!"
Cao Fengqi promptly threw the "battered piece of junk armor" hard onto the ground.
He had completely forgotten where he came from.
The next moment, Cao Fengqi headed toward the level 2 supply three hundred meters away, full of fighting spirit.
"Another skeleton."
When he arrived, he looked at the skeleton on the ground and dug another Moon Spirit Stone out from underneath it.
His luck was really good. A smile appeared on his face; he remembered that Moon Spirit Stones were much rarer than other metal materials.
His gaze fell on a spot more than four hundred meters to his right, where the only level 3 supply within a kilometer lay.
Cao Fengqi walked over, his face full of anticipation.
"Squelch! Squelch! Squelch!"
His footsteps made noises as they landed on the muddy ground, standing out in this terrifying world.
Four hundred meters wasn't far. As he approached, a small plant emitting a faint green glow came into view.
"An herb. It's an herb!"
Cao Fengqi's face lit up when he saw it. "Today really is my lucky day!"
Among supplies of the same level, herbs and fruits were usually the most important.
The reason was simple: these herbs and fruits had valuable effects. Many could be consumed directly to improve one's physique and mental strength.
Cao Fengqi hurried closer.
"Whoosh!"
Just as he came within five meters of the level 3 supply, a conspicuous red object attacked him.
[Under attack. Script activated. Recommend dodging quickly to the left or attacking with the Dark Iron Staff.]
The cheat's prompt flashed by, indicating where to dodge and how to respond.
Cao Fengqi was startled. Without hesitation, he quickly swung his Dark Iron Staff hard at the "red target."
"Bang!"
"Squeak! Squeak! Squeak!"
A shrill cry rang out, and a creature immediately sprang to Cao Fengqi's mind.
A Calamity Rat!
Born from calamity, Calamity Rats were the size of adult tabby cats, and their pitch-black skin allowed them to hide completely in the darkness.
They excelled at sneak attacks and were extremely fast. Their claws and teeth could easily tear flesh from an adult, and they were among the lowest-level evil beasts commonly found in the Lost Land.
Even though they were the lowest level, countless people had still died to Calamity Rat sneak attacks.
Of Cao Fengqi's five lives, one had been lost to one of them.
The Calamity Rat in front of him, however, had fallen to the ground under his heavy blow and was shrieking in pain.
But before he could breathe a sigh of relief, another prompt came from the script.
It showed him two Calamity Rats attacking from behind and from the right.
"There's an ambush too?"
Cao Fengqi's gaze sharpened. He hurriedly dodged left while smashing his Dark Iron Staff hard to the right.
"Bang!"
"Squeak!"
Another shrill cry rang out as he smashed the Calamity Rat on the right to the ground.
Seeing this, the Calamity Rat that had missed its pounce from behind had its pitch-black eyes turn blood-red in an instant.
"Squeak! Squeak! Squeak!"
It screeched wildly and sprang up, extending its sharp claws, which gleamed coldly.
"You little beasts, none of you three are going home for dinner today!"
Watching the script's prompts, Cao Fengqi shouted and brought his staff down in a chop!
The staff struck the Calamity Rat's body precisely from above, smashing it hard into the ground.
