Boss Liu
When Old Madam Liu and Third Aunt Liu looked at Liu Yunan again, he no longer seemed like a child, but an evil ghost that had crawled out of the eighteen layers of hell.
They were so frightened that they immediately turned and fled the Liu Household's little courtyard.
Only after watching them run far away did Liu Yunan drop the pretense he had struggled to maintain, his arms falling limply to his sides.
He had only just broken through, and it was by using a clever application of force that he had managed to grit his teeth and throw his eldest aunt, a middle-aged woman, out of the courtyard like that.
But he had only just broken through, after all, and did not even know how to use Spiritual Qi to regulate his meridians.
Meanwhile, at the Lin Household.
Lin Xiao was eating with Lin Dayou and Lin Yun when he suddenly heard a system notification in his mind.
[Ding-congratulations to disciple Liu Yunan on advancing to the Qi Refining First Layer]
Lin Xiao: ?
When they had discussed their respective progress on the way down the mountain, Tuzi had clearly said he felt he was still some way from advancing, hadn't he?
All of a sudden, a fine drizzle began to drift down outside.
With Lin Xiao's current eyesight, he could see it quite clearly.
Everyone should be home by now, he thought.
Perhaps Tuzi had gone home and continued cultivating, then made a breakthrough.
Meanwhile, Old Madam Liu and her two daughters-in-law had fled Liu Yunan's home in a sorry state. Old Madam Liu and Third Aunt Liu half dragged Eldest Aunt Liu, who had been thrown out of the courtyard, as they stumbled back to the old Liu Household residence.
Seeing the sorry state they were in, Old Madam Liu's eldest son, Boss Liu, frowned and asked:
"Where's Girl Sheng? You didn't bring her back?"
Eldest Aunt Liu began wailing and wiping away her tears as she cried out to him:
"Husband! You have to stand up for me! That little brat Liu Yunan doesn't respect me, his eldest aunt, or you, his eldest uncle! Boo-hoo-hoo..."
Boss Liu knitted his brows and shouted at Eldest Aunt Liu:
"What are you crying for? Speak properly!"
Eldest Aunt Liu immediately quieted her sobs by half and said:
"That little bastard, he... he actually threw me out of the courtyard!"
Boss Liu looked at her figure, broad and plump all over, and didn't believe her.
"That little frame of his could throw you? More likely he waved a stick a couple of times and scared you into running out, wasn't it?"
Old Madam Liu stepped forward and said to him:
"Oh, Eldest, your wife's telling the truth! That child was like he was possessed by a ghost, he was so strong! He grabbed your wife, flung her toward the outside and sent her flying right out! He threatened me, too! If I hadn't run, my old bones would have been left outside their house!"
Hearing his own mother say so, Boss Liu was half convinced, though that didn't stop him from throwing his weight around as the eldest uncle.
"That little brat! He has no respect for his elders! As his eldest uncle, I have to teach him a lesson on his father's behalf!"
With that, he slapped his thigh and got up, walked into the courtyard, snatched up a wooden stick from beside the wall and headed toward Liu Yunan's home.
At the Liu Household.
After Old Madam Liu and the other two left, Liu Yunan struggled over to shut the courtyard gate, blocking the many gazes peering in from the darkness.
He helped his mother and little sister into the house, then comforted Liu Shengsheng, who was still hiccuping from her sobs every now and then.
"Little Sister, don't be afraid. I'm here. None of them can take you away."
Still hiccuping, Liu Shengsheng stared at him with eyes that seemed to shine and said:
"Brother, I'm not afraid! You'll help me drive them away!"
Widow Liu stroked her head affectionately, then turned to look at Liu Yunan with relief.
"Nan'er has grown up. You can even protect your little sister now."
Then she asked, somewhat worried:
"Did you hurt yourself doing that just now?"
Liu Yunan did not tell her the truth, only shaking his head as he said:
"Don't worry, Mother. I'm perfectly fine. If she comes again, I can throw her out again."
"You're still so young, and your body hasn't even finished growing. Your eldest aunt is tall and strong. How could you possibly have enough strength to throw her? Don't put on a brave face for me. We'll go to the medical clinic in town tomorrow-" Even after hearing him say that, Widow Liu only felt that he was trying to placate her so she wouldn't worry.
Liu Yunan had no choice but to say:
"Mother, didn't I tell you? I've been cultivating with Brother Xiao lately. Just now, I suddenly felt something and found the Qi channels in my body flowing together in perfect harmony. I didn't expect it, but I'd actually advanced! That's why I had the strength to throw that wicked woman out. Don't worry about me."
Widow Liu was somewhat taken aback. She hadn't expected that boy from the Lin family to really have the ability to cultivate immortality!
They had not kept their conversation from Liu Shengsheng.
After listening to the two of them, Liu Shengsheng suddenly said:
"Mother, Brother, I want to cultivate immortality too! I want to protect Mother and Brother too!"
Widow Liu gazed at her with eyes full of affection and was just about to say something when a thud sounded from the courtyard gate!
Someone was pounding on the gate!
Immediately afterward came another blow, even harder, and the already dilapidated Liu Household courtyard gate crashed to the ground.
Boss Liu stood outside the gate, bristling with aggression.
Behind him were Old Madam Liu and Third Aunt Liu, peering around.
Eldest Aunt Liu was in too much pain all over and ultimately did not follow them to watch the commotion.
As soon as the gate fell, Boss Liu strode boldly into the Liu Household's little courtyard as though no one were there, heading straight for Liu Shengsheng.
Liu Yunan immediately came out of the house and blocked Boss Liu's path.
"What are you trying to do, Eldest Uncle?"
Outside the courtyard, some neighbors had also seen how much commotion there was, and one of them called out:
"Boss Liu, what are you doing? Why did you smash their gate down? Can't you talk things over properly?"
Another voice immediately whispered to stop the person who had spoken:
"Leave it alone! Woman, aren't you afraid Boss Liu will come smash up our place?"
"Hey! Let him try! If he dares come smash up our place, I'll go find the village chief-"
The voice suddenly stopped, as though someone had covered her mouth.
In the darkness, all that could be heard at last was a man muttering under his breath:
"It's not like you don't know that good-for-nothing even dares talk back to the old village chief..."
Boss Liu paid no attention to the neighbor's call. He merely glanced at Liu Yunan, who didn't even reach his chin, and sneered:
"What? You used a clever trick to show off in front of your eldest aunt, and now you want to throw your weight around in front of me too?"
Tall and solid as stone, Boss Liu stood before Liu Yunan like a massive stone wall. A single look was enough to feel the enormous difference in their strength.
Liu Yunan also knew that if he faced Boss Liu head-on, he would have no power to fight back.
Even though he had already entered the Qi Refining First Layer.
But it was only the Qi Refining First Layer.
His physique had merely improved somewhat compared to an ordinary person's.
His eldest uncle, however, was a notorious ruffian throughout the surrounding villages. He had been known for his great strength in this area since childhood, and stirring up trouble and getting into fights were everyday occurrences for him.
The taut muscles covering his body were enough to make ordinary villagers tremble at the sight.
But Liu Yunan knew he could not give way.
If he took a single step back, his little sister would be beyond redemption.
Boss Liu hefted the wooden stick, as thick as an adult's arm, and looked at Liu Yunan.
"Are you moving or not?"
Liu Yunan kept his eyes fixed on him and stood perfectly straight. He said nothing, but answered him with his actions.
Boss Liu was so furious he laughed instead.
"Fine, you've got a tough bone in you! Then I won't hold back!"
With that, he raised the great stick in his hand and swung it viciously down at Liu Yunan's shoulder!
He would cripple the boy's arms first!
Liu Yunan hurriedly turned sideways to dodge, and Boss Liu's first blow missed.
Inside the house, Liu Shengsheng was just about to clap and cheer for her brother.
But unexpectedly, Boss Liu suddenly seized Liu Yunan's slender arm with one hand while raising the stick again with the other!
This time, Liu Yunan, thin as a hemp stalk, had nowhere to dodge and immediately took the blow squarely.
Boss Liu's knotted, muscular arm swung the thick, hard wooden stick down heavily on Liu Yunan's left arm. The sound of the boy's still-growing bones breaking seemed to ring through the air.
"Pfft!" From that single blow, Liu Yunan felt a tremendous force slam from his arm into his chest. He immediately spat out a mouthful of blood, feeling as though the immense force traveling from his shoulder had shattered his entire chest.
