Background / History

Founding the Mad Battle Hunting Team

Lei Zhan is the younger brother of Lei Bo, the master of the Thunder Martial Arts Hall. Preferring adventure and travel to a comfortable life, he gathered like-minded companions to form the Mad Battle Hunting Team. He recruited his friend Ning Baichuan as one of its original members, and their shared life-and-death experiences forged a bond as close as brotherhood 24.

Capturing the Volcanic Giant Bull

Lei Zhan led his team in capturing a peak Sixth-Rank Golden Body Realm Volcanic Giant Bull alive. He endured its attacks head-on and suffered serious internal injuries, while every other team member was also injured. No one died, and the capture made the team famous in Xinyuan City’s hunting community 22.

After returning, Lei Zhan visited Ning Baichuan’s home with Old Zhao. Still pale and coughing from his injuries, he praised Ning Yue’s first-place standing at Xinyuan Martial Arts High School. A Vitality Pill supplied by the Ning family improved his condition 22 23.

During the visit, he advised Ning Yue to reach his personal qi-and-blood limit before entering the First-Rank Realm. He illustrated the importance of a strong foundation with an account of a genius who accumulated 800 points before advancing. Before leaving, he promised to take Ning Yue hunting once the boy reached the fourth rank 23 24.

Suppressing the Ferocious Beast Riot

During Xinyuan City’s ferocious beast riot, Lei Zhan and another Seventh-Rank grandmaster killed the Volcanic Giant Bull. Lei Zhan then flew through the city, cutting down beasts with saber beams and crushing others with an invisible gripping force 32.

On spotting Ning Yue, he briefly stopped to check on him and directed him to the City Lord’s Manor for good news—the rewards being distributed to those who helped suppress the riot. Before returning to battle, he warned the hostile Wan Qili with a glance, frightening him into silence 33.

Treating Wang Lin

After Ning Yue asked about the injured Wang Lin, Lei Zhan purchased a vial of Vitality Creation Liquid for ten million yuan and used it to restore him to full health. Wang Lin’s share of the hunt’s proceeds went toward the cost, leaving seven million yuan to repay through future hunts. Lei Zhan also allowed Ning Yue to receive credit for bringing the matter to his attention 23 38.

Special Training and the Azure Ghost Threat

When Ning Yue became so absorbed in developing a cultivation art that his parents feared possession, they called Lei Zhan to investigate. He confirmed that Ning Yue was fine and explained that possession was beyond even Ninth-Grade experts, requiring at least divine-grade power. He then revealed Ning Yue’s spirit physique and martial achievements to his surprised parents 46 47.

Ning Baichuan presented the visit as an arrangement for three days of special training. Lei Zhan played along, announcing training fees of more than ten million yuan and postponing his team’s planned hunt for a peak sixth-grade One-Horned Ghost Bull 47.

That night, an alert drew him away to investigate an Azure Ghost massacre at the Vast Sea Residential Complex. The following day, he met Ning Yue, Zhang Chun, and Lei Ren at the Martial Artist Exchange. After checking that Ning Yue had survived an Azure Ghost encounter unharmed, he began their training with a practical lesson: allocating resources wisely. He transferred three million yuan to each student and sent them shopping in the underground exchange 48 49 50.

Appearance

  • Build: A burly, towering man described as being built like an iron tower 22.
  • Facial hair: A bristling beard 22.
  • Carried equipment: A huge iron case worn on his back; Ning Yue suspects it contains a weapon 22.
  • After the bull hunt: Pale-faced and prone to coughing because of his internal injuries 22.

Personality

Lei Zhan is hearty, outspoken, and perceptive beneath his rough exterior. He notices when Ning Yue hesitates to ask a question and urges him to speak directly. He values confidence without false modesty, telling Ning Yue that excessive humility becomes hypocrisy 23.

He treats hunting injuries as routine and is more relieved that his teammates survived than concerned about his own wounds. His loyalty extends to helping Wang Lin obtain treatment and responding to the Ning family’s late-night worries. With Ning Baichuan, that affection also takes the form of teasing and competitive banter 23 38 47.

Despite his reputation, Lei Zhan considers the Seventh-Rank Realm the end of his own martial path. He nevertheless recognizes greater potential in Ning Yue and encourages his parents to support it 23 47.
