Qing Lin suffered discrimination from both humans and Snake-People because of her mixed ancestry. Her mother was killed by people in the community, leaving her without the person whose affection she most clearly remembered. Before meeting Xiao Yan, she survived on others' leftovers and had never eaten her fill 43 44 46.

In Xiao Yan's previous life, Xiao Ding and Xiao Li had taken Qing Lin into the Desert Iron Mercenary Group. In the current timeline, Xiao Yan finds her before that encounter, recognizing both her name and her latent eye ability from his memories 43.

Personality

Initially fearful and apologetic, Qing Lin expects strangers to hurt her and regards herself as a “monster” because of her ancestry. She nearly refuses Xiao Yan's protection because she fears that accepting it will bring him trouble. His care gradually allows her to become playful and affectionate, and she resolves to stop hiding her identity 43 45 46.

Qing Lin places great importance on repaying kindness. Despite her limited education, she promises to do her best whenever Xiao Yan needs her help. This loyalty does not make her fearless: she understands the danger of returning to Stone Desert City before the invasion, but chooses to help despite her anxiety 45 48.

She retains a sense of independence and does not resent everyone who has discriminated against her, distinguishing them from people who deliberately abused her. Once she no longer needs charity to survive, she politely declines a stranger's offer of bread 46.

Awakening and First Test

Recognizing her potential, Xiao Yan guides Yao Lao toward identifying her eye constitution. He then deliberately recounts his own experiences of ostracism, awakening her pupils through shared emotion. Encouraged to test them, Qing Lin accompanies him into the Tagor Desert 44 45 46.

Their search instead uncovers Snake-People discussing an attack on Stone Desert City. Xiao Yan captures a straggler, and Qing Lin successfully controls her. The resulting interrogation reveals that Yue Mei's forces have stirred seventy percent of the desert's snake-type Magical Beasts into a frenzy for an attack before dawn 47 48.

Preparations Against the Snake Horde

Qing Lin agrees to help subdue the attacking beasts and returns to Stone Desert City with Xiao Yan and the captive. Xiao Yan introduces her eye ability to the defenders without revealing her mixed ancestry 48 49 50.

The defense plan calls for her to seize control of the strongest arriving snake-type beasts. Together with Xiao Yan's ten Fifth-Order Magical Beasts, these controlled forces are intended to hold off the invasion until imperial reinforcements arrive 50.
