The Third Hokage's Decision
In the tranquil night of Konoha, starlight scattered like fragments across the earth. Most of the buildings had fallen into a deep sleep, extinguishing their last glimmer of light and immersing themselves in boundless dreams.
However, at the top of the Hokage Building, the Hokage's office remains brightly lit, like a solitary, untamed star shining in the darkness.
In the office, the Third Hokage Hiruzen Sarutobi, sat behind a large desk, his brows furrowed, the documents in his hands seemingly weighing a ton on his palms.
That document was a compilation of complaints against Danzo and his Root organization, detailing various misconducts and abuses of power.
Anger flickered in Hiruzen Sarutobi's eyes, and his chest rose and fell with his breath, revealing that he was trying his best to suppress his inner rage.
He might turn a blind eye to other complaints, but now, Danzo has started imprisoning civilians?
Rumors are spreading like wildfire. If this isn't dealt with soon, how will the villagers of Konoha view him Hokage?
He had only been handing over the power of the Military Police Force to Danzo for a short time, yet he had already thrown everything into complete chaos!
He recalled the past, when Danzo was his comrade-in-arms on the battlefield, and the two of them devoted countless efforts to the safety and prosperity of Konoha.
However, as time silently passed, Danzo's methods became increasingly extreme, to the point that he was willing to sacrifice innocent lives to achieve his goals.
Hiruzen Sarutobi repeatedly tried to dissuade him, but Danzo never changed his ways and instead carried out his plans more covertly.
Over the long years, the sunlit Hokage and the Root hidden in the darkness were like two intertwined currents. Hiruzen Sarutobi knew Danzo well how much Danzo had paid an unknown price for his light.
In the past, he allowed Danzo to do as he pleased and neglected to intervene. However, things are different now. Danzo's actions are like a sharp blade hanging over his head, threatening his status and dignity as Hokage.
Hiruzen Sarutobi put down the document in his hand, got up and walked to the window. As far as the eye could see, the village was peaceful and serene, but his heart was filled with anger and worry.
He realized that he was standing on the edge of a precipice, with external threats and internal contradictions intertwined into an inescapable web.
If nothing is done, Danzo's actions will ruin his image, and his standing in the villagers' hearts will crumble!
Hiruzen Sarutobi sighed deeply, a ruthless glint flashing in his eyes as the scales of his heart tipped.
He sat back down in his chair, the cigarette in his hand slowly rising, his solitary figure reflecting a resolute determination in the dim light.
Under the deep night sky, Hiruzen Sarutobi opened his throat slightly, letting out a meaningful cough that, like a sharp arrow piercing the night sky, shattered the silent contemplation.
His voice echoed in the empty office, lingering and resonating, as if summoning someone in the darkness.
"Tomoya." The two words were uttered softly, like a breeze brushing across a delicate lake, stirring up subtle ripples in the air, like ripples spreading under the night sky, silent yet clear.
Immediately, a figure flashed in the darkness, appearing like a ghost, and stood in front of Hiruzen Sarutobi.
The man was dressed in black, which covered his body tightly. His face was covered by a mask, revealing only a pair of sharp, eagle-like eyes that flashed with calmness and vigilance.
The members of the Anbu are responsible for carrying out the most secret missions and delivering the most urgent orders for the Lord Hokage.
"Tomoya is here, awaiting your orders, Lord Hokage." Tomoya's voice was deep and respectful, his posture slightly bowed forward, like a sharp sword ready to be drawn, awaiting its master's command.
Hiruzen Sarutobi's gaze never left the documents on the table; his fingers tapped lightly on the surface as he considered his next move.
After a long period of contemplation, he finally raised his head, his gaze sharp and unwavering as he looked directly at Tomoya, and firmly issued the order, "Go, bring Danzo. I'll wait for him in the Hokage's office."
Tomoya needed no further words, simply nodding and replying succinctly and firmly, "As you command."
As he spoke, his figure vanished like smoke, as if he had never existed. Only a wisp of night wind carried his silhouette into the boundless darkness, silently carrying out the Hokage's orders.
Hiruzen Sarutobi watched Tomoya depart, a ripple of emotion stirred within him, a complex and unfathomable feeling, like a faint glimmer of light in the night, silently awaiting the future.
Deep beneath the Hidden Konoha, a snake-like passage finally leads to a cold and mysterious secret chamber hidden in the darkness.
This secret room has no windows; the only few dim yellow oil lamps sway on the walls, casting distorted shadows and halos of light.
The air was filled with the scent of dampness and earth, creating an invisible sense of oppression that made it difficult to breathe.
In the center of this secret room, Danzo sat quietly on a rough wooden chair.
His figure appeared so lonely and melancholy under the flickering lamplight.
His right eye was tightly wrapped in bandages, leaving only his deep and sharp left eye visible.
His face was calm to the point of being indifferent, as if no worldly disturbances could touch the depths of his heart.
Just then, a faint sound of footsteps broke the silence of the secret room.
A subordinate dressed in a black cloak appeared silently in front of Danzo.
His face was also covered by a mask, revealing only his wary eyes.
In the depths of the night, he knelt on one knee and respectfully reported to Danzo, "Lord Danzo, the Lord Hokage requests your presence in Hokage office."
Danzo frowned slightly, looking somewhat puzzled by the sudden invitation.
He pondered for a moment, then slowly asked, "In the dead of night, do you know what brings you to this summons?"
The subordinate bowed his head and respectfully replied, "This subordinate is unaware of the details, only acting on the Lord Hokage's secret orders."
A thoughtful look flashed across Danzo's right eye, but he did not delve into it further.
He stood up, adjusted his clothes slightly, and then ordered his subordinates, "Let's go."
"Yes, Lord Danzo!" The subordinate stood up in response and turned to walk towards the exit of the secret chamber.
Danzo closely behind, and the two figures quickly disappeared into the dark passage.
Standing beneath the imposing Hokage Building, Danzo stopped in his tracks. His gaze seemed to pierce through the night, focusing on the bright windows of the Hokage's office atop the skyscraper.
There, the throne of power and the shackles of responsibility intertwine, a place he yearns for yet remains unattainable.
At this moment, the waves of emotion surging within him, his resentment and anger overwhelming him like a raging tide.
Like a caged beast, it struggles frantically in its cage, trying to break free of its invisible restraints.
