Long-Eared Dingguang Immortal Is a Traitor
Tongtian spread his hand and opened the Great Dao Diary to its first page.
A page of Dao characters appeared before him.
Although he could not read the script written on it,
a strand of mysterious, misty Qi drifted out of the Great Dao Diary.
Tongtian's eyes widened, and he instantly understood what it meant.
"Although I've never seen this script before, it has an inexplicable charm."
"It's pleasing to the eye."
"Did the owner of this diary create it himself?"
Muttering to himself, Tongtian began reading what was written on the first page.
[...I'm in a terrible mood...]
[I chopped a huge pile of firewood, but it won't last more than a few days.]
[If I could chop down the trees near Biyou Palace for firewood, I reckon they'd burn for tens of thousands of years.]
"..."
"Absurd!"
Tongtian's face darkened.
Who on earth had written this diary?
The author actually wanted to chop down trees near Biyou Palace.
Those were the trees closest to a Sage's cultivation grounds.
They were nourished by the power of a Sage's laws all day long.
On top of that, Jin'ao Island was rich in spiritual Qi, making it an excellent place to cultivate.
The trees beside Biyou Palace might even have taken human form by now.
And the author of this diary actually wanted to use them as firewood?
Utterly absurd!
Tongtian felt a little displeased.
From those few sentences, Tongtian could only feel that the diary's author
seemed a little unreliable.
And the author also seemed to be very close to the Interception Sect's cultivation grounds?
Who could it be?
Could it be a Jie Sect Disciple?
Unlikely... how could a Jie Sect Disciple possess such a supreme Dao treasure?
Any treasure capable of suppressing the baleful Qi of the Immortal Slaying Sword was no ordinary thing.
Could it be a living being dwelling in seclusion near the Interception Sect?
At that thought,
Tongtian lost interest in reading the diary any further.
His terrifying Sage's divine sense immediately surged forth.
In the next instant,
it covered a billion miles around the Interception Sect's cultivation grounds.
His Sage's consciousness swept over the Interception Sect's countless disciples.
He found no trace of the Dao on any of them.
Tongtian did not stop.
His divine sense continued to expand,
searching farther afield.
But it found nothing.
He sensed nothing at all.
"Perhaps I was being too suspicious."
"A great power capable of possessing a supreme Dao treasure"
"naturally wouldn't be found around the Interception Sect."
Tongtian withdrew his gaze and looked back at the Great Dao Diary.
The few lines of grumbling he had just read
had made him lose interest in it.
"Although what's written in it isn't very interesting,"
"the power of the Dao this diary releases"
"can suppress the baleful Qi of the Immortal Slaying Sword."
"Perhaps I can use this power to gain complete control of the Four Immortal-Slaying Swords!"
"And have the Four Immortal-Slaying Swords suppress the Interception Sect's fortune!"
With that thought,
Tongtian prepared to close the diary
and nurture it beside the Four Immortal-Slaying Swords.
But
just as Tongtian was about to close it,
something else written in the diary suddenly caught the corner of his eye.
It was the second line after the grumbling.
It read:
[Still, I'm afraid the Interception Sect won't last tens of thousands of years.]
[The Interception Sect was so strong, it shouldn't have been defeated. It lost because there was a traitor in the sect.]
The Interception Sect wouldn't last much longer?
It lost because there was a traitor in the Interception Sect!?!
At that,
Tongtian's eyes flew open.
A look of astonishment flashed across them.
"What does this mean?"
"Could the author of this diary know there's a traitor in the Interception Sect?"
"How is that possible?"
"As the Jie Sect Leader, I seize a chance of survival for all living beings."
"Those who come to the Interception Sect to cultivate are not judged by their qualifications or spiritual roots."
"As long as their hearts are set on immortality, they may cultivate."
"By rights, such teachings are a kindness to the Interception Sect's followers."
"Why would any disciple betray the sect?"
"That's impossible!"
Reading this,
Tongtian's first reaction was disbelief.
He could not believe that any disciple of the Interception Sect would harbor thoughts of betrayal.
Yet an ominous premonition was spreading faintly through his heart.
After all, the Great Dao Diary before him
not only possessed the power of the Dao,
but could even suppress the baleful Qi of the Immortal Slaying Sword.
Wasn't that proof enough?
The information recorded in such a treasure
might not be false.
"I'll read on before deciding what to make of it."
With that thought,
Tongtian placed the diary before him again and studied it carefully.
This time,
Tongtian did not pause.
He read everything on the first page in one breath.
[If Long-Eared Dingguang Immortal hadn't already been turned by the Two Sages of the West and embraced Buddhist principles,]
[and betrayed the sect at a critical moment, the Interception Sect's Myriad Immortals Formation could never have been broken.]
[That ultimately led to so many Jie Sect Disciples ending up on the Investiture of the Gods.]
[The Chan Sect became the biggest winner in the Investiture of the Gods. What a pity.]
[Dingguang Xian didn't get the punishment he deserved, either.]
[In the end, he became the Joyful Buddha of the West...]
Boom!
The moment Tongtian finished reading the diary,
he felt as though a billion bolts of heavenly Dao yin lightning had struck his primordial spirit.
Even as a Sage,
he found it hard to accept what was recorded on the first page of the Great Dao Diary.
Long-Eared Dingguang Immortal...
was a traitor?
Would he betray the Interception Sect in the future?
And then become the Joyful Buddha of the West?
This... this is impossible!
Didn't I expressly forbid Jie Sect Disciples from having contact with the West?
How could he have been turned?
Could it have been... while I was in secluded cultivation?
Tongtian's eyes went wide, his expression dark and unsettled.
He recalled Dingguang Xian, with his long ears and rather honest-looking face.
It was hard to connect him with a traitor to the Interception Sect.
Long-Eared Dingguang Immortal was one of the Interception Sect's Seven Attendant Immortals.
He was strong, talented, and possessed a deep foundation.
His status could even compare to that of the Twelve Golden Immortals of Chan Sect.
Tongtian had always treated them well.
He had never let them lack any cultivation resources.
When they attended him, he also taught them whenever he could,
passing on some of his cultivation experience.
At most, he had recently chosen to remain in seclusion,
leaving the Jie Sect Disciples to cultivate as they pleased, which was indeed somewhat lax.
But, whether by reason or sentiment,
Tongtian felt he had done everything a sect leader should.
He had never wronged a single disciple of the Interception Sect.
Why, then, would Long-Eared Dingguang Immortal betray them?
Although Tongtian was unwilling to believe it,
the Great Dao Diary before him was truly extraordinary.
The information recorded in it
not only said that Long-Eared Dingguang Immortal would betray the sect,
but even described his final fate.
Moreover, it also knew about the Interception Sect's Myriad Immortals Formation!
The Myriad Immortals Formation was a formation Tongtian was still developing.
It was not yet complete,
and he had never mentioned it to anyone.
It could be said that Tongtian was the only person in the entire Primordial World who knew about it.
Yet the Great Dao Diary
clearly stated that Long-Eared Dingguang Immortal would betray them during the Myriad Immortals Formation.
Who had written this information?
Why did they know it in such detail?
Were the events it foretold true or false?
Would they really happen?
If Long-Eared Dingguang Immortal, one of the Seven Attendant Immortals, truly betrayed them,
the consequences... would indeed be too dreadful to contemplate!!
At that thought,
a grave feeling flashed through Tongtian's heart.
A thought stirred in his heart.
His terrifying Saint's divine sense carried the power of pure laws.
It quietly emerged.
It swiftly locked onto Long-Eared Dingguang Immortal's cultivation ground.
It detected Long-Eared Dingguang Immortal's every move.
Tongtian muttered indifferently to himself.
"Since things aren't clear, I'd best guard against trouble before it happens..."
"If any signs of trouble appear..."
"Then I can only make preparations in advance."
