"You overpraise me, Old Divine Lord. I received benefits bestowed by the Divine Lords and took the seat of master of the Canglan Divine Palace. Holding that position, I merely did what was my duty."
Chen Yang replied slowly.
Yet the Old Divine Lord sighed softly at those words and shook his head. "What duty? It was nothing more than being unable to help yourself."
"If you had been given a choice from the very beginning, would you have been willing to lie in that forest as a stone for a full twenty years, unable even to move, or would you have returned to the world that originally belonged to you?"
Faced with the Old Divine Lord's question, Chen Yang fell silent.
He considered the question seriously. If he had truly been able to choose during those first few years after crossing over, he would most likely have chosen to return to his original world.
Back then, he had merely been an unnoticed stone in the Canglan Continent. He had formed no emotional ties or bonds with any people or events.
After becoming a stone, he could lie flat openly and honestly, free himself from much of the noise and trouble of his previous life, and he had indeed felt far more at ease.
