Background

Chen Yang’s consciousness entered a smooth gray stone after he died from overwork in his previous life. The stone had gained sentience through spiritual energy twenty years earlier, but for years he could only absorb spiritual energy, sleep, and remain immobile in the Lesser Treasure Realm. He particularly disliked rain because it made spiritual energy damp and impure. 1

While trapped in the secret realm, Chen Yang drew the attention of Yang Guanfeng and Elder Yu. Yang Guanfeng brought him out, kept him close, and continuously nurtured him with spiritual energy. Chen Yang recognized the Yang Clan’s potential and chose to tie his future to theirs. 2 4 5

After defending the clan during the beast tide, he was formally acknowledged as a sentient Spirit Stone. The Yang Clan moved him into its ancestral hall and performed the Blood Burning Spirit Sacrifice, binding five clan members to him through essence blood. 20 23 Over time, he stopped seeing himself merely as an immobile stone and accepted the Yang Clan as both his responsibility and his foundation. 42

His later journeys uncovered his connection to the fallen Divine Path.
