Three Million
"Where are your trucks, everyone?" Su Ye asked.
"Aren't our cars all right here?" Yang Yuntao said.
"He means the trucks we use to haul goods," Lin Wanwan said.
"Oh, I came in first to see how many vegetables you had. My trucks are parked outside Jiuhua Village-all ten of them," Yang Yuntao said proudly.
"Yes, it's much the same for us," Lin Wanwan added.
"Who would have thought you were hiding your talents so well, young friend Su, and had so much fruit and vegetables? If I'd known, I would have had my employees drive straight in," Yang Yuntao said.
"It's fine. They can drive in now," Su Ye said.
With that, Yang Yuntao took out his phone and called the truck drivers outside the village, telling them to drive straight in and load the vegetables.
"Young friend Su, shouldn't you tell us how much you're charging per jin for these new varieties of vegetables?" Yang Yuntao asked impatiently.
"Manager Yang, I won't take advantage of you. All the vegetables you buy today will be ten yuan per jin, and the fruit will be twenty yuan per jin. Is that all right?" Su Ye said slowly.
"No problem, no problem. I'm happy with that price," Manager Yang said cheerfully.
"We have no problem with it either," the others chimed in.
They had all eaten the vegetables before and knew exactly how they tasted. Some had even taken them for testing, which showed that the vegetables had exceptionally high nutritional value and contained all kinds of elements the human body needed. Eating them was extremely beneficial to one's health.
Dozens of trucks rolled in from outside Jiuhua Village in a mighty procession. For the people in the little village, it was a truly astounding sight.
After the trucks drove in, Su Ye called for someone to bring over a large scale.
Everyone weighed and recorded the produce as they loaded it onto the trucks.
By late that night, almost all the vegetables had been loaded and hauled away, and Su Ye was settling the accounts with the bosses.
Once the accounts were settled, the bosses transferred the money to Su Ye's bank card and drove away.
After everyone had left, Su Ye tightened his grip on the bank card in his hand. It held the enormous sum of nearly three million yuan.
The ten mu of produce Su Ye had grown had yielded nearly fifty tons of fruits and vegetables such as tomatoes, close to a hundred thousand jin. Those alone had sold for nearly two million yuan.
There had also been some fifty tons of other vegetables, which had sold for over a million yuan.
After the bosses had all left, Su Ye told everyone to go home and get some sleep, then gather here again the next morning so he could settle their wages.
Early the next morning, Su Ye went to the bank in town and withdrew a hundred thousand yuan in cash.
By the time he returned to the vegetable garden, everyone was already there waiting for him.
Su Ye gave each person there two thousand yuan as a red packet.
"Oh, Xiao Ye, we only came to help you for one day. You don't need to give us so much," said a woman who looked to be in her fifties.
"It's fine, Auntie Liu. Just think of it as a red packet for everyone," Su Ye said.
"Oh, Xiao Ye, you're so capable! You came back to farm and still managed to make big money. Not like that brat of mine. He works in the city, and we still have to send him money," another woman said, frustrated that her son wouldn't live up to his potential.
There were around ten people. Su Ye handed out over twenty thousand yuan, then gave the remaining seventy-odd thousand to Zhang Erhu.
"Brother Ye, what are you doing?" Zhang Erhu looked at Su Ye in confusion.
"Paying your wages," Su Ye said.
"But it doesn't come to this much."
"Just take it. Consider the rest a bonus," Su Ye said with a smile.
"I can't take it. All I usually do is help with the watering and weeding. I haven't been much help with anything else." Zhang Erhu held the money back out to Su Ye. He couldn't feel at ease taking it.
"Take it. Stick with me, and I won't treat you badly." Su Ye pushed the money back toward him.
After some back and forth, Zhang Erhu finally accepted the money and declared that from now on, Su Ye was his own big brother. Everyone had a good laugh, though their gazes were full of envy when they looked at Zhang Erhu.
"Xiao Ye, do you have any spare seeds for those new varieties? A few of us wanted to talk to you about buying some."
"Yes, yes."
A few villagers in their thirties and forties stepped forward to ask Su Ye.
"Oh, Uncle Liu, I've planted less than ten mu of my hundred-odd mu of wasteland. How could I possibly have any to spare? Besides, these vegetables are still at the trial planting stage and can't be produced in bulk. When there's a chance in the future, I'll talk to my friend for you," Su Ye said with a smile.
The laboratory and the friend were both figments of his imagination, lies Su Ye had woven to avoid exposing the existence of the Immortal Spirit Space.
Besides, the seeds were ordinary seeds. They had only grown so well because they were watered with spirit water from the Immortal Spirit Space. Where was Su Ye supposed to find seeds for new varieties now?
When everyone heard there were no spare seeds, they left dejectedly.
"Erhu, now that the work's all done, I'll give you a few days off for the time being."
"When it's time to plant the new vegetables in a couple of days, I'll call you," Su Ye said.
"Okay, Brother Ye. I'll head home, then. Call me if you need anything." With that, Zhang Erhu tucked away the seventy-odd thousand yuan and went home.
Back home, Su Ye transferred five hundred thousand yuan each to his father's and mother's bank cards, telling them to buy whatever they wanted to eat, but his mother refused to accept it no matter what.
"Xiao Ye, you've only just made a little money. You should save it. There'll be plenty of times you need money in the future," his mother urged.
"Mom, don't worry about me. Now that I've made a little money, it's only right that I repay you both. Just keep it for now. There'll be even more when my next crop of vegetables comes in."
After much persuasion, the two elders finally accepted the money, but said they wouldn't touch it. They would only save it for him, and if Su Ye ever needed it, he could ask them for it anytime.
"Xiao Ye, you've got something of a career now. It's time to find yourself a wife, so your father and I can hold a grandchild," his mother said, looking at him.
At the mention of finding a wife, Su Ye immediately began to hesitate. After all, he was now a Qi Refining Stage cultivator, and barring any accidents, his lifespan would be longer than an ordinary person's. If he was lucky enough to reach Foundation Establishment in the future, he could live for three hundred years, while the limit of an ordinary person's lifespan was only around a hundred and twenty.
Before obtaining the Immortal Spirit Space, Su Ye would certainly have obediently listened to his mother. But now...
He would think about it later...
"Okay, Mom, I'll keep an eye out," Su Ye said evasively.
For now, he could only fob her off with a casual answer.
"By the way, I'm planning to go into the city in a few days to get some seeds from my friend," Su Ye said, looking at his parents.
