First Battle Against a Grandmaster
Su Ye had actually wanted to find someone to test just how strong he was in other people's eyes, but he hadn't been able to find anyone. Today, he happened to have someone he could try his skills on.
Of course, Su Ye didn't intend to use spells or anything of the sort.
Tang Shan and Su Ye went to a clearing beneath a tree. After exchanging greetings, Tang Shan took his stance, and his aura steadily rose.
By comparison, Su Ye was much more casual. He merely released spiritual power to envelop his body, particularly his feet and fists. Combined with his distinctive, otherworldly bearing, it gave him a subtle air of returning to simplicity.
Seeing this, Tang Shan put aside his carelessness and contempt. His greatest skill was actually a saber technique, but he hadn't come prepared. Besides, even if he had, he couldn't have brought it out. They were only sparring, so why bring out weapons?
After sizing each other up for a while, Su Ye made the first move.
Su Ye strengthened the spiritual power around his hands again, clenched his fists, and charged at Tang Shan's face.
When Tang Shan saw that, he thought, Good grief, that's ruthless! Wouldn't a punch to the face leave him disfigured?
Tang Shan moved too. He shifted his feet and ducked low, dodging the punch before swinging his own fist at Su Ye's lower abdomen.
So fast!
Su Ye was briefly surprised. Seeing that his punch wouldn't hit Tang Shan, he withdrew his strength, wrapped his right leg in spiritual power, and kicked Tang Shan's fist.
Bang!!!
Tang Shan and Su Ye each retreated three steps!
What a quick-witted kid!
Tang Shan shook his arm, which had been numbed by the impact, as he thought to himself.
Su Ye seemed much more at ease. After all, his spiritual power had dispersed most of the impact.
The two clashed again. After exchanging several moves, Tang Shan leaped out of range of Su Ye's attacks and waved his hand.
"That's enough, that's enough. I'm not in form today!"
In fact, apart from Li Xin and Xiao Qiujun, the others had only wanted to test whether Xiao Qiujun had been telling the truth. After all, there weren't many people who reached the Grandmaster realm at such a young age.
The moment Su Ye released his spiritual power to envelop his body, they had all seen that his standing as a Grandmaster was the real deal. There was no need to take things so far that anyone lost face.
Sun Feng laughed and said to the two of them, "That's right, you two should stop sparring. The tea's getting cold. Come over and have some!"
Su Ye also knew that Tang Shan had clearly gone easy on him in that fight. He had long heard that Grandmasters could release their true qi outside their bodies, but throughout the match, he hadn't seen a hair of it!
As Tang Shan walked toward the tea table, he said to Su Ye, "Heroes truly do emerge young. If we kept sparring, these old bones of mine would soon be smashed to pieces by you, young friend Su!"
"You flatter me, Elder Tang. You're the one who's still vigorous in old age. If we kept fighting, I'd certainly be no match for you!"
Su Ye said this to Tang Shan with a smile. In fact, his words were half true and half false. Although Tang Shan hadn't used his true qi, Su Ye had used his spiritual power. But as an immortal cultivator, Su Ye hadn't even used spells.
If it were a fight to the death, Su Ye was still confident enough that he could defeat a Grandmaster.
Su Ye and Tang Shan found seats at the table. The group was even more enthusiastic now than before.
Sun Feng even kept smiling as he refilled Su Ye's tea, with quite a bit of flattery in his manner.
The others inwardly called him shameless when they saw it, but they too frequently struck up conversations with Su Ye.
After all, this was a young Grandmaster. He had achieved so much at such a young age that, if he didn't die prematurely, he was sure to become a Great Grandmaster in the future. He might even have a chance to strive for the Legend Realm, which they hadn't heard any news of in a long time.
Faced with their fawning and flattery, Su Ye felt somewhat uncomfortable. After chatting with them for a while, he made his escape.
Tang Shan shook his head slightly and said regretfully, "What an outstanding child. Old Sun, if your grandson were half as outstanding as him, my granddaughter would definitely marry him!"
Sun Feng put on a roguish air and retorted, "What? They were betrothed before they were born, and now you want to go back on it?"
Teased like that, Tang Shan pretended to be angry. "Hmph! Come back and say that after you've properly dealt with that good-for-nothing grandson of yours!"
Sun Feng's grandson and Tang Shan's granddaughter had been betrothed before birth. But rather than inheriting his grandfather's martial spirit, Sun Feng's grandson had secretly joined a scientific research team, neglecting his martial arts as a result. When Sun Feng and Tang Shan found out, the two elders had nearly exploded with anger. But his mind was made up, and nothing they said could change it. The two elders felt powerless to do anything about it.
Xiao Qiujun, on the other hand, looked rather pleased with himself. He had arranged for Xiao Xiao to be by Su Ye's side long ago. As the saying went, affection grew with time!
Li Xin noticed Xiao Qiujun's pleased expression and immediately sneered, "Brother Jun, your daughter's thirty already, isn't she? I think it would be better to introduce Yueyue to him. I think the two of them should be around the same age..."
Xiao Qiujun immediately objected when he heard Li Xin, speaking like a parent defending his child. "You don't know shit! Young people nowadays like mature older women, understand? My daughter's only twenty-nine by her actual age. She's only thirty by traditional reckoning. If you don't know, don't talk nonsense!"
Li Xin looked innocently at Xiao Qiujun. He had only made a suggestion. Besides, whether it worked out depended on what the two of them thought...
A glimmer flashed in the eyes of Tang Shan and the others. They all came from prominent families in Guanhai City. Even if their immediate families had no unmarried women, surely there were plenty among their collateral branches?
As though they had reached some decision, all four of them smiled and took a sip of tea.
Of course, the tea they were drinking wasn't from the packet of spirit tea Su Ye had given Xiao Qiujun. He had long since locked that packet in the safe in his room, only brewing one cup for each of them when they had first met. If they wanted more, sorry, there was none left...
Su Ye came to the hall and saw Xiao Xiao sitting in a corner with two young women who looked to be in their early twenties. He didn't know what they were discussing, but they were chatting and laughing.
When Xiao Xiao saw Su Ye, she waved to him and called, "Su Ye, come over here!"
Su Ye had originally wanted to slip away somewhere else, but now that Xiao Xiao had called him over, he felt too embarrassed to pretend he hadn't heard.
Su Ye went over to Xiao Xiao's table, found a seat, and said, "What did you call me over for?"
Xiao Xiao smiled and said, "Let me introduce you. You know Xitong, and the other one is Li Yue, Uncle Li Xin's granddaughter!"
Su Ye looked Li Yue over. She wore a blue-and-white striped dress, and her long, straight black hair was tied behind her head with a simple elastic band. She was a beauty who rated around nine out of ten.
"Hello, my name is Su Ye!"
Su Ye greeted Li Yue.
Li Yue nodded shyly at Su Ye and said, "Hello, Li Yue!"
