Breaking Through to Level 10, the Martial Soul Begins to Materialize
With two more people in the house, the atmosphere really was different. At the very least, it was much livelier than before.
"Sister Lan Xin! Come catch me!"
"Little Brother Huzi! Don't run so fast! Be careful, or you'll fall."
Zhang Sheng watched them running happily around the courtyard, his heart filled with inexplicable joy. He felt that people were better off living together in a group. At least they could always feel the joys of the human world.
As for who Lan Xin was, she was Daya. Zhang Sheng had felt that the names given to the two sisters were a little too perfunctory,
so he had given them new names. The older sister was called Lan Xin, and the younger sister was called Lan Yun. As for their surname, he left it up to them. They could keep their old one or take his; he wouldn't force them.
Now that the two sisters were gradually settling into the family, they had begun to loosen up, no longer as restrained as when they had first arrived.
"Time flies! The year will be over in the blink of an eye. This seems to be the first New Year I'll spend here, doesn't it?"
Listening to the sounds of them playing, Zhang Sheng's thoughts began to drift.
Zhang Sheng's cultivation had now reached the peak of level 9, and he might break through to level 10 before the New Year.
This was a crucial moment. When the day came, he planned to go into seclusion for a short while,
not merely for the breakthrough. More than that, what Zhang Sheng most wanted to know was what changes would happen next.
The days passed slowly. After this period of recuperation, the sisters Lan Xin and Lan Yun
gradually grew healthy and rosy, and became more and more lively, returning to how children their age should have been.
In Zhang Sheng's view, Lan Xin and Lan Yun were still children to begin with. They were only a year or two older than he was now.
The older sister, Lan Xin, was ten, while the younger sister was eight, so playing and fooling around was only natural.
Of course, Zhang Sheng's household was the exception. Elsewhere, if they behaved so freely, they would either be beaten to death or sold off.
One day, Zhang Sheng suddenly told Uncle Dashan, Auntie, and the others that he had something to take care of. Aside from bringing him meals in the morning and evening, they had best not disturb him unless something came up.
Perhaps because Zhang Sheng had spoken so seriously, everyone went about their days carefully after that. Even Huzi stopped playing, afraid of making a sound and disturbing Zhang Sheng.
After explaining everything, Zhang Sheng shut himself in his room and sat cross-legged on the bed with a solemn expression. He couldn't help giving himself a pep talk:
"Success or failure depends on this one move!"
As soon as the words left his mouth, Zhang Sheng immediately settled his mind and entered a meditative state, preparing to begin his breakthrough.
Soul Power began to flow rapidly through his body, absorbing and assimilating energy from the outside world to give the breakthrough an extra push.
One cycle, then two; one stream, then two. He didn't know how much time had passed. The energy he had already accumulated in sufficient quantity
immediately began to boil when another influx of energy joined it.
His Soul Power circulated faster and faster. When it reached its peak, there was a bang, and Zhang Sheng finally broke through to level 10.
Immediately after breaking through, Zhang Sheng discovered that he had entered a whole new world.
He could actually see the direction in which Soul Power circulated inside his body. Wasn't this inner sight?
He also discovered a very significant change in his Martial Soul, Blue Silver Grass: it had begun to gradually materialize.
"Is it going to become real Blue Silver Grass?"
Seeing this, Zhang Sheng was beginning to feel unsure himself.
The change in Blue Silver Grass was naturally worth paying attention to, but what he most wanted to know now that he had reached level 10
was whether that feeling of restriction was still there. Otherwise, cultivation later on might be a dead end.
After setting aside his investigation of his Martial Soul for the time being, Zhang Sheng began cultivating again. A few minutes later, a happy smile appeared on his face.
He found that his cultivation speed hadn't slowed down, and he didn't feel any restriction from the rules either. This made him overjoyed.
"That's wonderful! I can finally put aside what I've worried about all this time. Life from here on will only get more and more exciting."
The matter of the restriction could be laid to rest for now, but he still needed to get to the bottom of the change in his Martial Soul. That way, if any further changes occurred later on, he would at least know what to expect.
"The Martial Soul has actually begun changing in the direction of materialization. Does that mean I'll be able to grow it like a plant in the future?
"If so, will it grow and evolve faster? To say something even more presumptuous, could it possibly evolve into something like a spiritual root of heaven and earth one day?"
With all these ideas in mind, Zhang Sheng found it hard to calm down and shut himself in his room alone for three whole days.
This made the people waiting outside somewhat anxious, but they didn't dare barge in.
"Husband! What do you think Eldest Son of the Zhang Family is doing, shutting himself in his room? It's been three whole days. It's so worrying!"
"What are you panicking for? Eldest Son of the Zhang Family is a man blessed with fortune. Haven't you understood the changes over this past while?"
"You mean..."
"Don't say it! It's enough that you know in your heart!"
"Mm! I'll be careful!"
Zhang Sheng didn't yet know that his string of actions had sent Uncle Dashan and the others' imaginations running wild. If he had known, he probably wouldn't have known whether to laugh or cry.
At this moment, after three days of thinking and testing in his room, Zhang Sheng had gained some understanding of the changes in his Martial Soul.
Once his level 10 Soul Power reached its maximum, he would be able to fully materialize his Martial Soul, and his Soul Power would also break through to level 11.
At that point, Zhang Sheng would possess a Soul Skill and could truly be called a Soul Master.
Having sorted everything out, he no longer needed to stay in his room and could end this brief seclusion.
"Creak!"
"Eldest Son of the Zhang Family!"
"Eldest Son of the Zhang Family!"
"Young Master!"
As soon as Zhang Sheng opened the door, he saw everyone. They all came forward to greet him, their faces tinged with worry. Presumably, this period had been hard on them too.
So he stepped forward and greeted them one by one.
"There's no need to worry. I'm fine, and I gained a great deal this time, so we need to celebrate. Auntie, sorry for the trouble, but could you go make the preparations?"
"All right! Auntie will go get everything ready!"
No one asked Zhang Sheng what he had gained. It was enough to know that today was a happy day; asking too much would only be improper.
Happy times were always short-lived. After that, they returned to their ordinary days,
but Zhang Sheng himself changed every day. All of it was brought about by his breakthrough to level 10.
First, Zhang Sheng's appearance began to change. Of course, he wasn't growing uglier.
Rather, he was becoming more handsome. Even the sisters Lan Xin and Lan Yun would often steal glances at him.
Second, he grew taller once again, until he was as tall as a boy of thirteen or fourteen.
All these changes amazed everyone in Zhang Sheng's household.
Zhang Sheng didn't explain the changes in himself, because there was simply no way to explain them.
Besides, the longer he cultivated, the more such changes would keep appearing.
He could only wait for them to get used to it. Time would wear everything away.
