Background
Shrek Academy was founded by the Golden Iron Triangle and built its ten-thousand-year reputation around the achievements of the first-generation Shrek Seven Monsters: Dai Mubai, Oscar, Tang San, Ma Hongjun, Xiao Wu, Ning Rongrong, and Zhu Zhuqing. Their granite statues once stood at the academy entrance as symbols of Shrek’s legacy. 13
The academy’s name comes from the Shrek, a rare soul beast whose unusual nature reflects its “only monsters” motto. Its culture places extraordinary value on talent, combat strength, and producing exceptional Soul Masters rather than ordinary graduates. 26
For much of its history, Shrek was publicly regarded as the continent’s strongest academy and repeatedly dominated the Continental Advanced Soul Master Academy Soul Dueling Tournament. Its prestige made it a symbol of the original three empires and a target of suspicion for rival powers. 33 109
Campus
Shrek City
Shrek City is one of the largest cities on the Douluo Continent, with a permanent population exceeding two million. Its scale is comparable only to the capitals of the four great empires. 13
- The academy occupies Shrek City’s eastern district rather than its center. 13
- The city’s East Gate is reserved for Shrek Academy; the west, south, and north gates are open to the public. 13
- Its position opposite the Star Dou Great Forest makes Shrek Academy the first major defensive line against Beast Tides. 13
- During the later Beast Tide, the academy’s elders, teachers, and students were divided among Shrek City’s four gates. 289
Sea God Island and the Golden Tree
Sea God Island is the Inner Academy’s central cultivation area. The Golden Tree stands there and serves as Shrek Academy’s foundational treasure and ultimate defensive resource. 15 294
- The Golden Tree possesses power stated to exceed that of an Ultimate Douluo. 294
- Mu En and Elder Xuan could use its power to seal Beast God Di Tian. 294
- Sea God Pavilion convened within the Golden Tree for the academy’s most important decisions. 98
Facilities
- Soul Arena — Inner Academy combat and sparring venue. 35
- Simulated Cultivation Ground — Cultivation facility on Sea God Island. 35
- Inner Academy Library — Two-story repository of rare and historical texts; its second floor is restricted by soul-tool access control. 35
- Inner Academy Surveillance Pavilion — Assignment point for surveillance missions. 26
- Inner Academy Assessment Hall — Hosts annual advancement assessments and freshman examinations. 26
Education System
Outer Academy
The Outer Academy was established at the request of the three great empires to cultivate a broader pool of continental talent; Shrek itself considers the Inner Academy its true core. 15
- Standard admission requirements include being under twelve years old, possessing at least Rank 15 Soul Power, and holding a recommendation letter from a main city. 6
- Exceptional applicants may enter through special exemptions, such as Tang Ya using a Tang Sect admission slot for Huo Yuhao. 14
- Outer Academy uniform colors correspond to soul-ring age: white, yellow, purple, and black. 26
- Outer Academy students are taught one hundred and eight running postures, a practice some retain after entering the Inner Academy. 162
Inner Academy
The Inner Academy trains Shrek’s elite disciples and uses crimson-red uniforms. 26 37
| Requirement | Details |
|---|---|
| Advancement | Students must pass yearly assessments; repeating a year twice results in expulsion. 26 |
| Freshman status | New entrants must pass a freshman assessment after three months to become genuine Inner Academy students. 26 |
| Graduation: Soul Power | Reach Rank 60. 26 |
| Graduation: Assessment | Pass the Inner Academy graduation assessment. 26 |
| Graduation: Service | Complete thirty surveillance missions. 26 |
Soul Guidance Department
Shrek established a Soul Guidance Department in response to continental trends, but much of the academy—particularly the Inner Academy—initially looked down on Soul Tool study and use. 66
Following the heavy injuries suffered during the mission against the Hand of Death Bandits, Mu En ordered every Inner Academy disciple to attend an additional Soul Engineer class each week and obtain both flight-type and defensive Soul Tools. 104
Organization
Saint Pavilion
The Sea God Pavilion was Shrek Academy’s highest leadership body. Major institutional decisions were made there by vote among the deans and senior elders. 98
After the Star Dou Beast Tide, the Pavilion rejected Tang San as Shrek’s continuing symbol, removed “Sea God” from its name, and became the Saint Pavilion. Ma Xiaotao was elected its new Master after Xuan Zi stepped down because of injury and age. 293
The later Saint Pavilion was formed by a younger generation including Ma Xiaotao, Han Ruoruo, Zhang Lexuan, Wu Ming, Hua Yao, Chu Qingtian, and Gu Fan. 305
Shrek Seven Monsters
The title of Shrek Seven Monsters is a ten-thousand-year-old distinction bestowed upon Shrek’s strongest students under twenty. Its holders represent the academy’s highest combat strength and traditionally defend its reputation in major competitions. 43
The academy held the Seven Monsters Challenge Tournament to determine the legitimate Seven Monsters through one-versus-one and two-versus-two battles. 43
Shrek Supervisory Group
The Shrek Supervisory Group formerly carried out missions against Evil Soul Masters, using concealed identities, masks, cloaks, inner armor, and distress flares. 101
The group’s missions were respected by the three great empires, which often left dangerous Evil Soul Master cases to Shrek rather than risk their own forces. 102
Following later reforms, Shrek abolished the Inspection Corps, ending the practice of sending Inner Academy disciples into such deadly field operations. 305
Major Events
Continental Advanced Soul Master Academy Soul Dueling Tournament
Shrek entered the tournament as defending champion and maintained its public image as the continent’s dominant academy. 109 112
- Ling Bai’s one-man victory over Tianling Advanced Soul Master Academy and subsequent performances drew extraordinary public attention to Shrek. 109 111
- Despite severe injuries to several official Seven Monsters during the Hand of Death Bandits mission, Shrek won the championship against the Sun Moon Royal Soul Engineer Academy. 103 128 134
- The victory convinced many traditional Inner Academy students to acknowledge the necessity of flight and defensive Soul Tools. 134
Body Sect and Holy Spirit Cult Attack
The Body Sect attacked Shrek Academy in an attempt to seize Huo Yuhao, while Grievous Evil Douluo of the Holy Spirit Cult infiltrated the academy to assassinate him. 137 138
Shrek’s teachers, Inner Academy disciples, deans, and returned Titled Douluo protected the Outer Academy and repelled the attackers. No Outer Academy student died in the aftermath. 138 139
Sun Moon Exchange Program
Shrek and the Sun Moon Royal Soul Engineer Academy began an exchange program intended to learn from each other while maintaining political safeguards. 139
- Xiao Hongchen and Meng Hongchen were required to undergo Shrek Inner Academy assessments, Soul Arena training, and surveillance missions. 139
- The exchange students were permitted to study on Sea God Island even if they failed the entrance examination, but they would not receive red uniforms, genuine Inner Academy status, or graduation certificates. 158
- Shrek’s own exchange students later returned in Inner Academy red uniforms after the program concluded. 205
Decline of the Old Legacy
After graduating, Ling Bai and a number of elite Inner Academy students either withdrew or pursued graduation assessments, leaving Shrek at risk of losing a significant portion of its top talent. 212 215
During a later Continental Advanced Soul Master Competition, Shrek was eliminated by the Angel Saint Hall after Wu Feng defeated Dai Huabin. 246
Star Dou Beast Tide and Reformation
The Star Dou Beast Tide devastated Shrek City after the soul beasts’ fate was taken away, prompting Beast God Di Tian to lead the Star Dou soul beasts against the academy. 289
- Shrek’s city-defense force suffered catastrophic losses, with nearly sixty percent killed or injured. 289
- The End-Fate Angel protected Shrek City with Endtime: Fate’s Protection. 289
- The subsequent Pavilion meeting formally broke with Tang San’s symbolic legacy, renamed Sea God Pavilion, and elected Ma Xiaotao as its new Master. 293
- The statues of the first-generation Shrek Seven Monsters were removed from the central square and replaced with a statue of Ling Bai. 304
- Under the Saint Pavilion, Shrek returned its focus to education rather than Angel Empire political affairs. 305
