Rulai's Vow
After parting ways with the Daoist Randeng Rulai, Zhang Xuezhou and the others cast spells and soared into the sky once more.
"Is there some mystery to this physical body technique? I've only connected a little over two hundred acupoints, yet I feel completely refreshed after waking up!"
As Zhang Xuezhou rode the waves, Rong Tianding felt that flying today was much easier than yesterday, and he did not feel the fatigue he had felt yesterday when he was too tired from flying.
Rong Tianding quickly recalled his cultivation practice from yesterday.
"The Body Technique can alleviate some fatigue, but the most important thing is that spirit fish," Zhang Xuezhou said. "This is the cultivation food that Daoist Randeng prepared for Rulai. It can have an effect on cultivators in the Sole Self Realm, and it is a great tonic for you. Eliminating fatigue is just a minor effect; nourishing your body is the major effect."
"This kind of extraordinary encounter is simply unbelievable!" Rong Tianding exclaimed. "Cousin, you always seem to have good things delivered to your door wherever you go!"
"It's not exactly a stroke of luck," Zhang Xuezhou said. "It's just that their cultivation level was too high, and we benefited a little from following them. It's just like Pockmarked Wang Er going to your house and running into your family slaughtering a pig, and then having a meal of pork!"
My family slaughters pigs every day!
"This is what they do every day!"
The Daoist Randeng caught a spirit fish yesterday, but the fish had been searching for all sorts of rare heavenly materials and earthly treasures day since the day before yesterday, and even every day of the past year.
The things the other party is looking for are not available every day, but they are quite common every few days.
"That old Daoist priest used to search for medicinal herbs in the mountains, why did he end up by the river this time?" Rong Tianding asked.
"He has the skill to find these things!"
Zhang Xuezhou replied to Rong Tianding, but Zhang Xuezhou didn't elaborate on his points.
While the Daoist Randeng may possess genuine abilities to find things, Zhang Xuezhou believes that the Daoist Randeng to accurately find things most likely originated from the Great Sage Water Ape.
Thinking of the tiny monkey locked in the alms bowl, Zhang Xuezhou was lost in thought.
He didn't have any special relationship with the Great Sage Water Ape. In fact, he had been chased for dozens of miles by the Water Ape Great Sage until Zhang Xuezhou obtained the Golden Crow Great Emperor's feather, after which the Great Sage Water Ape became friendly towards him.
Touched by this kindness, Zhang Xuezhou decided to inform the Kunlun Sacred Land about the matter, which could be seen as bringing the matter to a close.
As for risking his life to save the Great Sage Water Ape, Zhang Xuezhou felt that only someone with a fried brain could do such a high-risk thing.
He Yufeng without the slightest hesitation, heading straight over mountains and valleys.
In the distance, the Daoist Daoist Randeng holding the Coffin Lamp reached out and touched a white cloud that was covering his body, then gracefully returned and fell.
"Why did Uncle-Master chase after them for a while?" Tathagata asked Rulai surprise.
"Thus have I heard. One cannot judge a person's heart by their appearance; what they say behind their back is the truth," Daoist Randeng, clasping his hands together.
"Did they speak from their conscience?" Rulai asked.
"They still have a conscience; they just concealed their cultivation level from us," Daoist Randeng. "When I first saw that court official, Dongfang Shuo, he was only at the Sixth Realm. Now he has already entered the Seventh Realm. He must have obtained some extraordinary opportunity while traveling to break through to this level!"
"The Eastern Land is full of wondrous opportunities, while we Western Land are left only to eat bamboo and wood," Buddha said Rulai considerable indignation. "Why did our sect choose to go to the West back then? If we had stayed in the Eastern Land, wouldn't we have become a great sect by now?"
"We can't beat them!"
The Daoist Randeng gave a brief reply, which Rulai Buddha speechless for a moment.
The Daoist Randeng gave a very simple yet practical reason.
There is no other reason; if one's skills are inferior, one must yield. Otherwise, there might not be any Western Sect in the world today.
Many great schools of thought emerged in the Eastern Land, but one after another disappeared into the long river of history. However, the Western Sect took deep root in Xiniuhezhou and was not affected. It still retains a very complete lineage to this day.
"Then we are stuck in a corner of the world, poor and dilapidated. Aren't we destined to never be able to defeat the Eastern Land? We can only watch them enjoy the best conditions and grow stronger," Rulai a hint of resentment.
"If one day you can earn the respect of Yuanshi, Lingbao, and Laojun by being addressed as a fellow Daoist, you will have a place in the Eastern Land," Daoist Randeng.
"The Grand Master and the Second Grand Master..."
"They're old!"
The Daoist Randeng shook his head.
The two Western religious leaders and the Three Pure Ones Heavenly Venerables were once evenly matched in strength, but at that time the Three Pure Ones Heavenly Venerables were not the supreme leaders of the Eastern Land.
Later, the two Western leaders suffered and aged in Xiniu Hezhou, and their strength continued to decline. Meanwhile, the Three Pure Ones Heavenly Venerables of the Immortal Court lived a life of luxury, and to this day, no one knows how much lifespan they have left. It is said that their strength has also been improving.
With one side retreating and the other advancing, Western Sect lost their confidence to continue their challenge.
Even though the Immortal Court erected the Western Heavenly Gate in the secret land of Spirit Mountain, it was all in vain. To this day, they have only talked the talk but have never taken any real action.
"If I were the leader, I would ensure that the Three Pure Ones Heavenly Venerables no longer look Gaogao upon us Western Sect. If I were the leader, I would dismantle all the unequal unspoken rules Dongfang. If I were the leader, my religion would have its own name, instead of being considered a Western barbarian religion simply given a directional name. If I were the leader, I would lead believers to the Eastern Land. If I were the leader..."
The Rulai whispered.
His face remained calm, but the fire in his heart burned fiercely.
For many in the Western Sect, only those with exceptionally strong talents can Denggao with limited resources.
Rulai Buddha Son Shigong, Brahma, and others all traveled to the Eastern Land to varying degrees, their purpose being simply to acquire abundant resources for spiritual practice.
In the Eastern Land, no school of thought has ever required the ascetic practices of the Western Sect. They traveled tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands of miles to complete their ascetic practices and succeeded, but many more ascetics perished along the way.
This is clearly an unfair thing, Rulai the Buddha whispered his vow to pursue the fairness he believed in.
He even imagined one day standing before the Three Pure Ones, pointing at these Gaogao beings, and declaring that their era had passed.
"If you want to become the leader, you must defeat those three treacherous parasites —Brahma, Shi Gong, and Vishnu," Daoist Randeng. "I cannot intervene in your struggle for the Holy Son; you must rely on yourself."
"Those three are indeed troublesome... We need to find Wu Chao!"
While vows may be made in one's heart, the struggle over the Western Sect holy son is a real and hard-fought battle.
The Rulai's physical body technique proved powerful, completely countering many other Technique Method, which led Brahma and others to band together to target him.
He has no problem one-on-one, but he struggles to handle three people on his own.
The Buddha pondered Rulai a long time, and couldn't help but think of the junior disciple of the Western Sect who had been under his tutelage for less than ten years.
The opponent is intelligent, possesses extremely unpredictable Technique Method, and excels at surprise attacks; he is a rare talent capable of defeating stronger opponents.
Rulai dislikes this kind of person, but he is not afraid to join forces with them, especially since his cultivation level is perfectly countered by Wu Chao's, so even if Wu Chao rebels, it will not bring him any danger.
If Wu Chao were to lend him a hand, and he only needed to distract Vishnu, the weakest of the three, Vishnu Rulai his chances of inheriting the Western Sect would increase by 20%.
"If Wu Chao can intervene in the struggle for the Holy Son, and if my martial uncle can give him a little pointers so that he can get someone involved, my success rate in inheriting the sect will be at least 60%!"
"Then let's find the Wu Chao first!"
The Rulai's estimates have always been conservative; an optimist might even estimate it to be 80%.
Clearly, the addition of Wu Chao will Rulai increase Tathagata's chances of winning.
The Daoist Randeng had never given Wu Chao a second glance before, but since Rulai spoken of it, he had no choice but to be friendly to Wu Chao as well.
