At the Wondrous Dharma Palace, the emperor and empress expounded the Dharma and taught nine Instructions for avoiding danger.

Many Techniques had to be actively cast to exert their power. If they weren't released in time, their user was bound to be caught off guard, and might even be defeated by someone of a lower level.

Instructions, on the other hand, contained tricks that let them exert some of their power even without being actively used.

As long as Zhang Xuezhou cultivated these Instructions to a certain degree, they could protect him against various mishaps when he suddenly lost consciousness, most likely buying him enough time for his bodily senses to return to normal.

When the lesson was over, the empress saw which Technique Zhang Xuezhou had chosen to practice first and couldn't help sending the emperor a voice transmission.

"Food is the first necessity of the people. There's nothing wrong with cultivating the Grain Avoidance Instruction first," the emperor said with a nod. "As far as we're concerned, it doesn't matter which Instruction he cultivates."

"Can we really study that Divine Sense Strengthening Incantation thoroughly by having this student of yours cultivate Instructions?" the empress asked, her lips moving.

"Cultivating an Instruction takes him from the basics to greater depths, which is bound to bring about changes in his Divine Sense. That will let us truly understand how the Divine Sense Strengthening Incantation advances his cultivation of Instructions, so we can work backward from there!"

Zhang Xuezhou's explanation had been obscure and difficult to understand, and he himself had found it hard to advance his cultivation using his previous experience. In the end, the emperor and empress relied on his demonstrations to understand it.

Most of the Mental Strengthening Chapter concerned the
