Ch. 1943Something Was Wrong

Zhang Xuezhou and Zhou Rihui accompanied the task force to Willow Garden, where they inspected the west gate’s main building while trying to determine what was wrong. Ren Yisheng questioned Pei Ying about when Pei Jing began showing signs of old age.

Ch. 1944Attack

Zhang Xuezhou and Ren Yisheng suspected that Pei Jing was pretending to be in his twilight years and tried to verify whether the West Gate Complex had been rigged. Rockets struck the complex, and Pei Ying survived only to be seized and questioned, still unsure whether Pei Jing or the Pei Household had set him up.

  • Ren Yisheng and Song Fengying found nothing abnormal in the West Gate Complex, so Zhang Xuezhou and Ren Yisheng left to investigate a building they suspected had been tampered with.
  • Li Yingbo received Ren Yisheng's message and ordered everyone out of the monitoring room after hearing an unusual rumble.
  • Zhou Rihui shoved the committee members out of the building, while Pei Ying escaped after seeing rockets falling toward the West Gate Complex.
  • More than a dozen rockets destroyed the West Gate Complex, and Pei Ying was injured by the blast as he fled.
  • A stern man in sunglasses seized Pei Ying and demanded to know who had targeted the complex, but Pei Ying insisted he knew nothing.

Ch. 1945Passive and Active

After surviving the rocket strike on the West Gate Complex, Ren Yisheng and the others questioned Pei Ying and weighed the Pei Household’s role in the attack. Ren Yisheng then suspected their communications were being monitored and proposed using a distress message to draw out whoever was tracking them.

  • Song Fengying ended the livestream after the rocket barrage devastated the area, and she regrouped with Zhang Xuezhou and Ren Yisheng.
  • Zhou Rihui brought Pei Ying to the group, and Ren Yisheng confirmed that Pei Ying knew nothing about who had orchestrated the attack.
  • Under pressure from Ren Yisheng, Zhang Xuezhou, Li Yingbo, and Zhu Liangping, Pei Ying revealed that Pei Min controlled Qing'an’s military defenses while Pei Li had supposedly gone traveling.
  • Li Yingbo received a message from Wang Haoran asking about an underground tremor, but Ren Yisheng warned that Qing'an’s electronic equipment might let someone monitor their communications.
  • Ren Yisheng told Li Yingbo to send Wang Haoran a brief distress message in two minutes to lure whoever was tracking them into revealing themselves.

Ch. 1946Surprise attack

  • Pei Min said Pei Jing was at Willow Garden, and Pei Ying kicked him in the heart and killed him.

Ch. 1948Misjudgment

After Pei Ying killed Pei Min, Zhang Xuezhou and the others accepted Pei Ying as a potential hostage and learned where Pei Jing was hiding beneath Willow Garden. They hurried toward the underground palace, where Ren Yisheng asked Zhang Xuezhou how to answer a message from Wang Haoran without revealing their plans.

  • Pei Ying killed Pei Min, and Zhang Xuezhou and Ren Yisheng decided they could use the cooperative Pei Ying as a hostage instead.
  • Zhang Xuezhou gave Zhou Rihui and Pei Ying Supreme Purity True Techniques, and the group set off for Pei Jing's underground palace beneath Willow Garden.
  • Song Fengying chose to accompany Zhang Xuezhou and Ren Yisheng, leaving the unconscious cameraman Xiao Yang behind to recover.
  • Pei Ying explained that Pei Jing was hiding in a secret underground palace beneath the lake and warned that its low ceiling would leave little room to dodge in a sword fight.
  • Li Yingbo received another message from Wang Haoran and asked how to respond in a way that would mislead him, so Ren Yisheng turned to Zhang Xuezhou for advice.

Ch. 1949Ambush and Counter-Ambush

Ren Yisheng’s group lured Pei Jing out of the underground palace by sending a false request for help, but Ren Anran warned Zhang Xuezhou that Pei Jing had disguised himself as a technician and was waiting to ambush them. • Zhang Xuezhou wondered whether Pei Jing's talk of following heaven's mandate and his own misfortune reflected a conflict between their fortunes.

Ch. 1962After Divine Ability

Zhang Xuezhou, Ren Yisheng, and Ren Anran recovered from the aftermath of Pei Jing’s attack while considering the threat posed by Luo En and the need to secure X864 Gene Medicine. The chapter ended with Ren Anran resolving to enter the Divine Ability Realm and seek a path beyond it.
