Armed to the Teeth Like a Special Forces Soldier
Some of the men were fiddling with knives in their hands, while others were drinking. The room was thick with the smell of cigars and alcohol.
A burly white man asked Jack curiously:
"Jack, is he from Cherry Blossom Country?"
Few Asians usually came here to buy weapons, so he was curious.
Besides, Chen Feng never stayed long when he came, so not many people knew him.
Chen Feng glanced at the white man. He was covered in tattoos, even on his face, and was as ugly as a monster.
Before Jack could answer, Chen Feng spoke first:
"I'm from Dragon Country."
It wasn't the first time someone abroad had asked Chen Feng whether he was from Cherry Blossom Country.
These foreigners were generally not very friendly toward people from Dragon Country.
Even when some of them knew you were from Dragon Country, they would deliberately ask if you were from Cherry Blossom Country just to get under your skin.
The tattooed foreigner smiled. "So you're a friend from the ancient country in the distant East. As far as I know, your country has the strictest gun ban of any country. Aren't you afraid something might happen if you buy weapons?"
Chen Feng paid no attention to the question. He simply sat there, looking at the man calmly.
The tattooed foreigner waited for a long time without getting an answer and immediately felt rebuffed.
If anyone else had treated him that way, he would definitely have lost his temper.
But for some reason, when he met Chen Feng's eyes, he felt uneasy.
His instincts told him the man from Dragon Country before him was not someone to mess with.
Jack spoke up. "My friend Chen doesn't much like dealing with people. Don't bother asking him."
Jack took Chen Feng's side and smoothed things over for him.
Of course he did. Chen Feng was a steady, major customer, and Jack knew which of them carried more weight.
Once Jack spoke, the way everyone looked at Chen Feng changed noticeably. Their earlier contempt was gone.
A few even gave Chen Feng friendly smiles.
More than ten minutes later, a few more people entered the room, bringing their number to ten.
Jack stood up:
"Friends, everyone's here. Follow me."
Jack then led them to the bar's basement, which also served as the gang's armory.
Drugs and other goods weren't sold here.
From what Chen Feng had learned, Jack's gang sold everything, even people.
Eagle Sauce might be free, but the darkness beneath that freedom was even more terrifying.
When they reached the basement, Chen Feng saw rows upon rows of weapons hanging on the walls.
There were handguns, submachine guns, rifles-every kind of equipment was available.
"Feel free to pick whatever you like. If you want to ask about a price, come to me."
With that, Jack sat down and waited for everyone to choose their weapons.
Chen Feng didn't browse. He knew the easiest way to get the good stuff was to ask the person in charge, so he walked over to Jack.
"Chen, what are you looking to buy?"
Jack offered Chen Feng a cigar.
Chen Feng took it but didn't smoke it. He didn't like the stuff.
"A handgun, grenades, a bulletproof vest, and a sniper rifle. Put a set together for me, all the best you have."
At Chen Feng's words, many people in the room turned to look at him.
He was asking for quite a lot-a complete set of equipment. He could go straight to the battlefield with it.
"Chen, what are you planning to do? Are you going off to fight in a war?"
Jack asked, also taken aback.
"Do you ask what your customers are buying things for now?" Chen Feng asked in return.
Jack spread his hands. "All right, I'll pick them out for you!"
In no time, Jack had brought a pile of equipment over to Chen Feng.
First, he took out a handgun and held it out to him.
The handgun had a compact, elegant design. Its streamlined shape and matte finish made it look like a work of art.
It also came with a red-dot sight and a suppressor, and its grip had been extended.
"The Taran 2011 Combat Master Pistol. It just came in, and it feels excellent in the hand. It lets you respond quickly to all kinds of emergencies, and you can switch between single-shot and automatic modes. Its rate of fire is sure to satisfy you."
Jack gave him the rundown.
At the same time, he demonstrated how to disassemble it quickly.
Chen Feng had heard the gun's name before.
It was a handgun designed specifically for competitive shooting.
When Jack saw that Chen Feng hadn't said anything, he continued his presentation, this time taking out a bulletproof vest.
"Chen, this is the best bulletproof vest we have. There are only three sets, and it's called the Interceptor. It's fitted with boron carbide bulletproof ceramic plates that protect not only your neck, chest, and back, but also your groin."
After saying that, Jack glanced at Chen Feng's groin with a playful look.
Chen Feng ignored his gaze and looked at the sniper rifle off to the side.
"The Remington 700. Its range can reach a thousand meters. I don't need to tell you about this one-it's famous all over the world."
Jack set the rifle beside Chen Feng.
Chen Feng picked it up and tried it out, then asked:
"How much for all of this?"
Jack answered immediately:
"Chen, you're a longtime customer, so we'll give you our best discount. All of this, plus ten grenades, fifty rounds of 9mm pistol ammunition, and thirty rounds of 7.62 sniper ammunition, comes to a hundred thousand. I'll also throw in a set of tactical gear. What do you think?"
A hundred thousand US dollars was several times the normal price of those firearms, if not more.
But that was how the black market worked. Things cost more than they did through legitimate channels.
"Deal. Come with me to get the money."
Chen Feng agreed at once. He could still afford a hundred thousand dollars.
Although he was spending a bit much this time, it was worth the money if it could keep him safe in the Painting Scroll World.
Besides, he knew Jack really wasn't overcharging him much. The bulletproof vest alone was worth close to fifty thousand.
Eagle Sauce Country didn't ban guns, but it did ban high-end bulletproof vests, so good ones were hard to get.
A smile immediately spread across Jack's face:
"My friend, you're as straightforward as ever. I'll have someone pack everything up for you right now."
Jack called over a few of his men to pack the equipment, while the other buyers in the room stared at Chen Feng in shock.
Chen Feng's purchase had stunned them.
The most they would buy here was a handgun or a rifle.
It was extremely rare for someone like Chen Feng to come in and buy a hundred thousand dollars' worth of equipment at once.
Ignoring their astonished looks, Chen Feng left the basement with Jack.
Jack didn't attend to the other buyers again, leaving them all to his men.
Right now, taking care of Chen Feng, his major customer, was what mattered to him.
They drove to a nearby bank, where Chen Feng withdrew a hundred thousand in cash and handed it to Jack.
Jack beamed as soon as he received the money and handed the equipment over to Chen Feng.
"My friend, you're welcome back anytime."
Chen Feng said little, picked up the equipment, and left.
Jack waved goodbye to Chen Feng. He was already used to doing business with him this way.
Only when Chen Feng disappeared from sight did he return to his car.
One of his men asked him:
"Boss, why did he buy so many weapons this time? Dragon Country bans guns. If something happens..."
The man was still somewhat worried. If Chen Feng used the equipment to stir up trouble in Dragon Country, they would be in a bind.
Although Dragon Country couldn't interfere in Eagle Sauce's affairs, it could put pressure on the Eagle Sauce authorities. Then the FBI would come after them.
The authorities in Eagle Sauce turned a blind eye to black-market dealings, but if something big happened, no one would be able to cover for them.
"Although I don't know what he wants so much equipment for, Chen isn't a stupid man. He's dealt with us many times, and nothing has ever gone wrong. We should trust our friend."
With that, Jack kissed the green banknotes.
Jack felt quite reassured about Chen Feng. Nothing had ever gone wrong.
Besides, he judged that Chen Feng wasn't taking these weapons back to Dragon Country, because he wouldn't get them past the border.
So he wasn't worried that Chen Feng would stir up trouble in Dragon Country and affect their gang.
