Background and History
Mining origins
Chen Feng founded the Xingfeng Sect with profits from reselling goods between worlds. Its original business was straightforward: hire ordinary people to mine ore in the Painting Scroll World, transport it to modern society, and process and sell it there. Blazing Sun Stone, a common weapon-forging material in the cultivation world, produced iron that remained unusually strong, light, and flexible even after other substances were added 1.
The sect initially depended on hired martial artists for protection. Black Wind Stronghold controlled Hengduan Mountain and demanded tribute, increasing its demand to five thousand taels despite Chen Feng having already paid an initial three thousand taels and owing only one hundred monthly thereafter 1.
Black Wind Stronghold occupation
While Chen Feng was absent, He Sandao and Jiang Xiao led more than a thousand bandits against the sect, seeking his supposed immortal artifact-refining method. He Sandao killed Steward Sun, the martial artists surrendered, and the attackers occupied the headquarters. At an abandoned mine, they discovered a conveyor belt whose purpose they could not understand 9.
When Chen Feng learned that the attackers included a Xiantian expert, he considered abandoning the territory rather than risking his life. Later accounts record the sect’s eventual destruction of the bandits occupying Hengduan Mountain 11 171.
Dependence on Chen Feng
Although Chen Feng often delegated routine administration, members regarded him as the sect’s backbone. During crises, his presence restored confidence; later, cultivators and Demon Beasts alike came to regard the sect as their home and Chen Feng as its master 48 482.
The Great Yu war remained a defining near-disaster. Chen Feng later acknowledged that without bringing a nuclear bomb from the modern world in time, the sect would probably have been destroyed 564.

Recruitment and internal ranks
- Outer sect: By the expansion into Ning and Xue, applicants must have reached at least Houtian Seventh Layer 145.
- Inner sect: Admission requires time in the outer sect and a series of assessments. Earlier inner disciples receive the Xiantian-level Mystic Yellow Art and preferential resource support 39 145.
- Inner sect deacons: Introduced when Wang Hu can no longer personally manage all 5,000 inner martial artists; deacons supervise members stationed across Ning and Xue 145.
- Branch recruitment: Liu Qian regularly selects promising members from regional branches for transfer to headquarters 269.
- Attendant Hall: Accepts outside cultivators but does not grant access to the core of power; members earn treasury rewards through assigned tasks 785.
- Peripheral membership: Ming Province recruits similarly complete tasks for Contribution Points without receiving access to the sect’s core 827.
Contribution Points and treasury
- Contribution Points reward military service and completed assignments, and can be exchanged for resources and cultivation methods 317 785.
- The treasury includes copied cultivation methods obtained from secret realms, many supporting cultivation up to Golden Core 317.
- By Chen Feng’s planned hundred-year seclusion, the treasury has nine floors, each exceeding 1,000 square meters. Access depends on a member’s status 804.
- Security includes cameras, Spiritual Qi Sensors, and a grand formation capable of defending against Void Refinement cultivators 804.
- Spirit Transformation treasures are subject to additional access restrictions ordered by Chen Feng 804.
Territory and Branches
| Location | Role and development |
|---|---|
| Hengduan Mountain | Original headquarters. By the Ning–Xue expansion, its grounds exceed one hundred mu, with affiliated factions arranged down the mountainside 1 145. |
| Northern Border | Principal population and industrial base. Eventually receives all of Yingzhou’s mortals, supported by railways and modern construction 786. |
| Xingfeng City | Commercial city featuring electric lighting, cars, and modern shops; its opening attracts both mortals and visiting cultivators 199 210. |
| Yingzhou branches | More than thirty branches span nearly all of Yingzhou during the sect’s regional expansion 269. |
| Black Sea branch | Established around the conquered Black Sea and its Demon Beasts, with Haili appointed to command them 317. |
| Moon Luminous Island branch | Built on the former Heavenly Demon Sect site; its central Deliberation Pavilion is constructed with white jade bricks and tiles 338 339. |
| Azure Sky Island holdings | Former properties of the Weng Household and Ten Thousand Poisons Sect, taken over after the coalition’s defeat 389. |
| Ming Province branch | Built beside, rather than inside, the Yin Corpse Sect’s gloomy headquarters. Supported by ten new missile bases and contingents from all four named formations 822. |
| Weiyang Star Domain branch | Exists during the later period of stabilized sect authority; regional factions pay tribute and recognize Xingfeng supremacy 893. |
- In conquered Yingzhou territories, the sect generally leaves existing nations’ internal affairs intact and establishes branches for regional management 269.
- Ming Province factions retain substantial internal autonomy in return for fixed annual resource tribute 827.
- Later outside observers distinguish the sect from expansionist powers because it concentrates on developing its existing territory and trading abroad 935 942.
Laws and Internal Culture
Protection of mortals
- Yue Yao observes that the sect does not appear to trade in blood food, unlike factions that slaughter mortals and martial artists to support cultivation 174.
- Affiliated forces settling near Hengduan Mountain are forbidden to encroach on ordinary people’s residential areas 145.
- Injuring a mortal in Xingfeng City is treated as a violation of Northern Border law, even when the offender is a visiting cultivator 211.
- The sect arrests the Chi Kingdom’s genius and severs diplomatic relations rather than dismiss an assault on a mortal as inconsequential 212.
- Nearly 200,000 villagers come to support the sect against Ning, declaring that they will live and die with it; Wang Hu organizes them to prepare defensive obstacles 130.
Martial artists and cultivators
Within the sect, martial artists and cultivators socialize on unusually equal terms. Modern weapons allow a well-equipped Innate Realm martial artist to kill a Foundation Establishment cultivator, reducing the practical gap between their positions. Mixed banquets and friendships between the two groups are consequently commonplace 422.
Chen Feng’s treatment of martial artists as equals to cultivators is a major source of their devotion. He also explicitly tells members that they need not kneel and bow to him 564.
Corruption and factionalism
Chen Feng’s discovery of abuses against villagers forces him to reconsider his neglect of institutional safeguards. He recognizes that technological growth and personal cultivation alone cannot prevent the sect’s system from deteriorating 290.
- Liu Qian orders investigations into cultivation households connected to mortal slaughter, distinguishing between punishment of leaders and punishment of entire households 293.
- The Mo and Zhang households form influential internal groupings, complicating assessments of military contributions even when their members remain loyal to the sect 317.
- The Law Enforcement Hall can arrest members who fight without permission. However, recruits’ preexisting grudges and competing internal factions sometimes generate pressure for leniency 998.
Younger-generation competition
- Held once every three years after its introduction at Wang Fengnuo’s suggestion 888.
- Open to disciples under thirty who have reached at least Foundation Establishment 888.
- Awards generous prizes to the top ten; Wang Fengnuo is placed in charge of organizing it 888.
Military and Technology
Firearms and kinetic weapons
The sect’s early military advantage comes from weapons that require no Spiritual Power to operate. Mortals and low-level cultivators can use them, while outsiders commonly mistake them for concealed weapons or products of an unfamiliar artifact-refining tradition 74 370 538.
- Early equipment includes submachine guns, Gatling guns, grenade launchers, rocket launchers, C4, and Barrett rifles 74 84 100 125.
- Cultivators combine firearms with movement talismans and use Spiritual Sense to lock onto targets 443 511.
- By the major modernization period, members carry Gauss rifles and electromagnetic rifles; gunpowder weapons are manufactured primarily for sale 786.
- Later core members receive antimatter firearms capable of threatening Spirit Transformation and Void Refinement cultivators 979.
Limits:
- Early armed martial artists remain vulnerable to enemy speed, Law Techniques, and overwhelming numbers 84 132.
- Ordinary firearms are principally effective against low-level cultivators; stronger defenses and Body-Protecting Spiritual Light reduce their usefulness 293 443.
Strategic weapons
| Weapon | Documented role |
|---|---|
| Nuclear bombs and missiles | Long-range bombardment and mass destruction; concentrated strikes are devastating below Spirit Transformation, but prepared Nascent Soul cultivators can evade individual slow-moving attacks 818. |
| Three-Phase Bombs | Compact high-yield weapons. Their effectiveness against Golden Core opponents depends partly on the wielder’s ability to deliver the attack 389 434. |
| Sword of Xingfeng | Secret weapon responsible for the instant killing initially attributed to Chen Feng’s personal strength 486. |
| Space-based weapons | Strategic defenses placed on combat alert during threats and later deployed around Ming Province and aboard warships 702 828 979. |
| Return to the Ruins Stone | Reported to annihilate space within one hundred li and threaten Void Refinement cultivators despite their Power of Principle 817. |
| Pupil of Annihilation | Long-range weapon identified as another threat to Void Refinement cultivators 817. |
| Star-Annihilating Cannon | Antimatter weapon capable of threatening Half-Step Dao Integration experts; massed deployments later make full Dao Integration cultivators vulnerable to saturation fire 870 979. |
| Warp-engine spacecraft | Described as capable of overwhelming Dao Integration cultivators through an absolute advantage in speed 979. |
Fleets and formations
- Azure Dragon, Black Tortoise, Vermilion Bird, and White Tiger are the sect’s four named formations 822.
- Azure Dragon Formation conducts armed enforcement operations against hostile cultivators 293.
- Black Tortoise Formation operates externally and establishes missile bases during Ming Province’s consolidation 441 822.
- Aerial formation: Zhou Jing selects more than a dozen inner martial artists to train as pilots 200.
- White Emperor fighters: Space-combat aircraft introduced during the later Ming Province development period 828.
| Asset | Documented inventory or upgrade |
|---|---|
| Advanced Aerospace Carriers | More than one hundred refitted with kinetic weapons and high-energy particle main cannons 786. |
| Conventional carriers | Approximately 5,000, equipped with nuclear missile silos and close-in defense guns 786. |
| Transport ships | Approximately 5,000, primarily for personnel transport 786. |
| Cultivation robots | One million 786. |
| Powered armor | 70,000 suits at the documented inventory stage 786. |
| Three-Phase Bomb stockpile | More than 10,000 786. |
| Antimatter Warships | More than 1,000, later rising above 100,000; roughly half of the later fleet carries Star-Annihilating Cannons 889 979. |
| Star-Annihilating Cannons | More than one hundred deployed between Canglan Star and Ming Province at the earlier antimatter-fleet stage 889. |
| Later Aerospace Carrier role | Relegated to logistics as Antimatter Warships replace them in the combat fleet 979. |
Communications and intelligence
- Satellite phones allow rapid long-distance communication, while the Satellite Monitoring Center can locate people carrying them 259.
- The sect intercepts True Lord Kongyou’s call concerning Nangong Wanyue’s planned visit and forwards the recording to Liu Qian 567.
- Satellite monitoring supports orbital calculations and the deployment of defensive satellites and space-based weapons around Ming Province 828.
Industry and Trade
Production base
- Mining: The original source of revenue, linking Painting Scroll World ore with modern processing and sales 1.
- Power and arms production: Chen Feng starts a nuclear reactor and trains Yue Yao and others to operate arms-factory equipment 199.
- Factories: Seventeen are operating when Chen Feng returns after the Northern Border purge; products include medicines and fusion batteries 293.
- Industrial park: Produces Wound Healing No. 1 locally in the Northern Border 317.
- Advanced manufacturing plans: Yue Yao receives blueprints for artificial cultivators, Artificial Spirit Apertures, and Spiritual Qi bullets, alongside a robot capable of casting the Fireball Technique 532.
- Civilian labor: Mortals perform most of the sect’s work. Migrants receive arrangements for housing and factory employment 484 532.
Arms exports
- The Immortal Treasure Chamber of Commerce distributes Xingfeng firearms, with much of its early trade directed toward the Inner Sea 370.
- Moon-Gazing City and the Expansion Divine Sect both purchase its weapons, making Xingfeng equipment influential in their wars 490 538.
- Liu Qian refuses to join Moon-Gazing City’s war but negotiates weapons sales, seeking Nascent Soul formation treasures in payment for magic ships 440.
- Restrictions on heavy-weapon exports are relaxed once Chen Feng judges that foreign buyers can no longer seriously threaten the sect 668.
- Over ten years, the sect supplies factions across Canglan Star with firearms and heavy weapons in preparation for an invasion 702.
- Later trade produces enormous Yuan Stone reserves, financing mass production of advanced warships and weapons 979.
- In the Heavenly River Star Domain, visiting representatives inspect Xingfeng City and its technology before establishing sustained trade; one returning order includes more than one hundred Aerospace Carriers 1013.
Resource constraints and safeguards
- Fusion-battery production slows when Spirit Stones become scarce 293.
- Arms revenue replenishes Spirit Stone reserves and supports unrestricted production of space-based weapons and Three-Phase Bombs 668.
- Even while cooperating with Cang Yuelan, the sect sells Aerospace Carriers but withholds nuclear weapons, offering to conduct nuclear strikes itself if required 827.
- Senior cultivators receive substantial Contribution Point rewards for refining materials used in warp drives 981.
