As Alex had expected, it wasn't long after they lay down that Carter called them up.
Seeing Carter's anxious expression, Steve couldn't help but ask with some concern, "Carter, what happened?"
"Don't ask anything, come with me to the command center!" Carter was decisive, not wasting a single word, and turned to leave.
Upon hearing this, Steve and the others exchanged bewildered glances, all confused. Only Alex knew what was going on, understanding that Zola had confessed Red Skull's global bombing plan, and the Allied leaders were in a panic, needing them to step in and save the world.
"Let's go!" Alex nudged Steve and followed him towards the command center. Seeing this, the others cast aside their distracting thoughts and followed the two out of the camp.
The Howling Commandos' camp and the command center were not far apart, and they entered the command center within minutes.
The command center was filled with generals, and almost all the Allied leaders were present. Rows of medals were enough to blind people. Seeing Steve and the others enter, everyone turned their attention to them.
Steve felt a bit constrained as he looked around and saw Carter quickly walk over. Alex and the others naturally followed without a word.
"Carter, what exactly happened?" Steve cautiously surveyed the generals present and asked in a low voice.
"Captain, please come over here!" Just as Carter was about to speak, a middle-aged man in uniform with the rank of Lieutenant General pinned to his chest beckoned from the center of the crowd. He then looked at Alex and the others beside Steve and continued, "And your teammates, come over together."
Steve glanced at Alex beside him, then turned and walked past the group of generals to the very center of the crowd. A huge sand table was placed in the middle. The massive sand table depicted the European continent, with dozens of small flags on it, some belonging to the Allies and some to the enemy.
"Steve, we are facing a huge crisis!" the general who had called them over said sternly as soon as they arrived. "We urgently need your and your teammates' help."
Steve was indeed a passionate patriot. Upon hearing this, he immediately straightened his body and replied loudly, "No matter the mission, we will do our utmost to complete it!"
Seeing Steve's noble expression, Alex sighed inwardly and remained silent.
"Schmidt thinks he's a god. He wants to bomb half the world, targeting all major and medium-sized cities in Allied countries, including New York and London." The Lieutenant General stopped speaking, and Colonel Phillips, formerly of the new recruit training base, stepped up to the sand table. He pointed to several pre-marked flags, then glanced at his watch, scanning the room, and said in a deep voice, "According to our new friend, the bombing is less than 24 hours away."
As he spoke, Phillips produced several more photographs. They showed the giant bombs that Alex, Steve, and Bucky had seen during their first infiltration of a Hydra base factory.
"According to Mr. Howard's speculation, these bombs are extremely powerful. One is enough to level the entire city of New York!" Phillips pointed to Howard in the corner, his expression grave. "Therefore, we must stop him immediately."
"Where is he?" Steve's expression also turned serious.
Phillips threw out a few more photos, showing a snow-covered mountain range: "The Alps, Hydra's most secret base, and nearly ten thousand Hydra troops. However, due to the terrain, our army cannot reach there."
Steve took the photos and glanced at them, then handed them to Alex behind him. "Can you do it, Alex?"
Alex casually glanced at them and nodded without speaking. In such a situation, it was not appropriate for him to speak; it would invite hostility.
Seeing the actions of Steve and Alex, all the generals present couldn't help but frown slightly, showing a hint of displeasure.
"Rogers, do you have any ideas?" Phillips, who greatly admired Alex, noticed the expressions of the generals and quickly called out, pulling Steve back.
With Alex's affirmative reply, Steve immediately gained confidence. He turned to face the generals with a confident expression and said, "Generals, we will complete the mission perfectly!"
Hearing Steve's words, the generals present applauded enthusiastically, very excited.
Amidst the generals' continuous thanks and salutes, the Howling Commandos left the command center.
As soon as they returned to the camp, Carter grabbed Steve, her face stern, and reprimanded him sharply, "Are you tired of living? That's Hydra's most secret base, with ten thousand Hydra troops. Do you think you're a god, capable of taking them all down by yourself..."
Listening to Carter's continuous scolding, Alex's heart also ignited with anger. In the movie, Steve at least had backup, but now, they had nothing, only the five of them!
Steve silently endured the scolding until Carter finished. Then, he said softly, "If we don't go, who else can stop him?"
Carter was stunned by his words. After a long pause, she replied, "But you can't just go to your deaths like that!"
"We can't just watch Red Skull bomb, can we?" Steve retorted, adding at the end, "Besides, isn't Alex here too! Since he nodded, it must be possible!"
Hearing this, Alex couldn't help but want to curse. Did my nod mean that? I just meant I could take you there, not that we could complete this mission "single-handedly"!
However, at this moment, Alex could only swallow his bitterness. "You guys get ready first, I'll scout ahead!" After saying that, without waiting for anyone to speak, Alex vanished.
After more than ten consecutive teleportations, Alex finally found a hidden spot outside Hydra's Alps base. Hiding in the spot, Alex carefully observed the base.
The base was unexpectedly large. Hydra's presence could be seen from the foot of the mountain to the summit. Alex strongly suspected that Hydra had hollowed out the entire mountain to build this secret and massive base.
What Alex found particularly troublesome was the extremely tight security. Many areas were blocked by huge iron gates, and Alex, despite his teleportation ability, couldn't sneak in.
After pondering for a while, Alex suddenly recalled a scene from the movie: Steve infiltrated the base alone and was brought before Red Skull. When Red Skull was about to shoot Steve, the supporting characters in the movie broke in through a window.
"A window!" Alex's eyes suddenly lit up. With a window, Alex could sneak into the base's interior.
After searching for a long time, Alex finally found this window on the edge of a cliff.
Through the window was a spacious room. Red Skull stood in front of a drawing board with a look of intoxication, seemingly appreciating a painting. Around Red Skull were several Hydra soldiers, each equipped with large energy guns. Judging by the muzzles, their power was not insignificant.
"Let's break in from here!" After carefully examining the environment through the window, Alex's teleportation disappeared.
