Background / History
Thanos was already notorious across the universe before his direct conflict with Alex. In pursuit of the Death Goddess, he massacred several star systems; during an earlier cosmic crisis, he used the Cosmic Cube to ravage the universe until Adam defeated him through intellect. 252 257
He later manifests his consciousness through Alex's body to seek Adam's assistance, claiming that renewed Kree–Skrull conflict will endanger Earth. Thanos agrees to help prevent Adam's future Dark Incarnation in exchange for Adam's cooperation, though Adam remains suspicious and resolves to watch him. 251 252
Thanos subsequently reappears physically and annihilates a star system near Shi'ar territory, prompting panic across the major cosmic empires. Danger Bird attempts to exploit the crisis by luring him toward the Kree and Skrull war, while the United Cosmic Council ultimately mobilizes forces against him. 257 263 264
Appearance
Thanos is a towering, heavily built man with a purplish-red face, cracked lips, and a physically imposing frame. His appearance varies between plain clothing and battle armor. 257 262 525
- Often described as tall, robust, and comparable in size to Hulk. 538
- Has been seen wearing golden armor while seated on a massive floating throne. 257 538
- Later wears the golden Infinity Gauntlet on his left hand. 525
- His body is durable enough that Alex injures himself striking Thanos's eyes. 263
Personality
Thanos is ruthless, prideful, and unconcerned with the lives of entire civilizations. He destroys star systems and threatens Earth directly when Alex takes the Infinity Gauntlet, dismissing reputation or restraint as irrelevant. 257 527
Despite his brutality, he is patient and calculating. He tolerates Adam's insults while attempting to secure his cooperation, studies Alex's teleportation until he discovers a countermeasure, and uses deception, psychic traps, and hostages to gain strategic advantages. 252 272 542 547
His obsession with the Death Goddess is a major vulnerability: Alex repeatedly provokes him by mocking this devotion, causing Thanos to abandon caution in battle. 541 545
