Chapter 59: He Was Right There
Late at night, beneath the dim glow of the streetlights.
Jonathan, who had just returned from making deliveries, drove his pickup truck down a suburban road, a faintly worried look on his face.
Quite a few things had happened over the past few days.
His eldest son had unexpectedly lost his powers, while his younger son had apparently been hiding his Superpower all these years. To chase after Avery, he had left their small town for Gotham.
Still, his younger son had stayed in touch with the family by phone these past two days, which eased his and his wife's worries somewhat.
"I heard on the phone just now that David found Avery. He should be back soon."
The worry on Jonathan's face lessened slightly.
Beep! Beep! Beep!
A battered blue sedan behind him suddenly laid on its horn, urging Jonathan to move aside.
Jonathan frowned and turned the wheel to give it room, but the other driver seemed as though his ass were on fire. The deafening horn never stopped.
"Hey, buddy, do you really have to be in such a hurry?"
As the sedan pulled alongside him, he rolled down his window and called out in displeasure.
The sedan seemed not to hear him at all. Inside, a somewhat disheveled middle-aged man in a white lab coat, with the air of a down-and-out scholar, excitedly trembled as he spoke on the phone.
"Richard, I did it! I really did it... Hahaha!"
On the passenger seat sat a strange sunflower-like flower, sealed inside a glass jar.
As he spoke on the phone, he stared at the jar with blazing eyes, as if he were looking at the greatest scientific discovery of the twenty-first century.
