The three of them walked out of the room.
The villagers were drawing water from the newly built well when someone spotted the three of them.
All the villagers turned to look at them and fell silent.
Their cold gazes carried a sense of distance.
"Looks like you so-called State Alchemists aren't very popular."
Sasori spoke up.
Edward awkwardly scratched his head. When he and Alphonse had first arrived in this village, they had not encountered this kind of treatment.
How had things suddenly become like this after they went out to chase someone around?
"Maybe there's some misunderstanding," Alphonse tried to explain.
At that moment, the Village Chief emerged from nearby.
"Gentlemen, your rooms have already been arranged."
Compared to the others, the Village Chief was far more respectful.
Looking at Sasori, the Village Chief asked, "And this gentleman is?"
"Just an ordinary suspect." Sasori shrugged indifferently.
"Ah." The Village Chief looked at Sasori in surprise. The man was not restricted in any way.
Seeing the Village Chief's confusion, Edward explained, "He's only under suspicion. For now, he needs to cooperate with our investigation."
Still, Edward gave Sasori a puzzled glance. He had not expected the man to admit so readily that he was a suspect.
Most people did not want that label attached to them.
"I see." The Village Chief nodded, his cloudy eyes glancing at Sasori.
"Please follow me."
The Village Chief began leading the way.
The entire village had been built in a square layout, with neat roads on all four sides. Yet the Village Chief led the three of them to a small hill not far outside the village.
"This used to be where our village hunter lived. He was also one of the people who went missing, so it should make your investigation easier,"
