Background and History

Madara and Hashirama Senju founded Konoha, but their disagreement over peace ended in a final falling-out. Madara later became a rogue ninja. By old age, he had awakened the Rinnegan and was using Uchiha Jin's Basic Inner Cultivation to slow the drain on his lifespan while pursuing the Infinite Tsukuyomi 64 175 260 369.

He sought a successor capable of awakening the Mangekyō Sharingan. Madara rejected Jin for that role, chose Obito Uchiha instead, and allowed Obito to use his name. He also ordered Basic Inner Cultivation distributed to other villages to prevent Konoha from becoming too dominant 64 406.

Madara and Jin agreed to cooperate despite distrusting one another. Their conflict later became open warfare at Kirigakure: Jin defeated Madara, who escaped with Izanagi at the cost of a Sharingan. Madara subsequently used the Life-Death Reincarnation Technique to preserve his existence before returning in a youthful body 291 292 369 370 405.

After his revival, Madara seized control of the Land of Water and continued pursuing the Rinnegan and the Tailed Beasts. He eventually revived and absorbed the Ten-Tails to gain Six Paths power. His rivalry with Hashirama continued into their Six Paths-level battles 431 432 510 575 685.

Madara is seen as an aged man before his revival and as a youthful man afterward 64 405.

He seeks peace through the Infinite Tsukuyomi rather than Hashirama's approach. Their disagreement persists even after their reunion, although Madara helps Hashirama resist another will's influence so they can have a fair Six Paths-level fight 291 490 575.
