Background

Sasori lost both parents during Sunagakure's war against Konoha. After learning that Sakumo Hatake was responsible, he demanded that the Third Kazekage avenge them; when the Kazekage admitted he could not, Sasori condemned him as weak and declared his intent to become Kazekage and destroy Konoha. Chiyo, his grandmother, tried to restrain him. 62

As he grew older, Sasori became increasingly withdrawn and devoted himself to puppet and soul research. He created Puppet versions of his parents and participated in Sunagakure's work on transferring souls into Puppets, a project intended to give the village effectively immortal combatants. 305 During the war against Iwagakure, he remotely fielded a Puppet body of Pakura and recovered her control core after her defeat. 338

Sasori secretly poisoned Bunpuku with a toxin designed to target Natural Energy. Although Bunpuku detected the poison, he allowed it to take effect in the hope that his death might free Sasori from hatred.
