Personality

Gu Tianhai is deeply devoted to the Sacred Hall and Tianyang Domain. Although he recognizes the overwhelming disparity between Tianyang Domain and its stronger enemies, he refuses to surrender its people, territory, or resources 502 509.

He is protective of Jiang Bei, repeatedly worrying about the risks the younger cultivator takes. At the same time, he trusts Jiang Bei's strength, judgment, and commitment to Tianyang Domain, actively guiding him toward the domain's ancestral inheritances 488 506 519.

His loyalty to old comrades leaves him vulnerable to betrayal. Yan Chengjun's attack shocks him, but even while gravely wounded, Gu Tianhai forces himself back to his feet and continues resisting 492 493.

Even after Tianyang Domain is displaced by the Different Space Tower and he is left facing a future forced return to overwhelming enemies, Gu Tianhai remains focused on the domain's survival. Gu Tianhai returns through an avatar after learning that Jiang Bei saved the Sacred Hall from Zuo Heling's attack. He personally commends Jiang Bei's accomplishments and calls the disciple a fortune for both himself and the Sacred Hall 484.

Defense of Tianyang Main City

Gu Tianhai brings Jiang Bei to Tianyang Domain, where he returns to his true body to repel Burning Heaven Hall attackers. He introduces Jiang Bei to Fang Qi and Yan Chengjun as the Sacred Hall's great prodigy and its hope 487.

When five major forces besiege Tianyang Main City, Gu Tianhai leads the defense despite recognizing that the enemy must possess a method to breach the city formation 490 491. He personally fights Lie Fentian and Chen Wuchang, but Yan Chengjun's betrayal leaves him gravely wounded 492.

Gu Tianhai later realizes that Zuo Ce and the Zuo Clan Ancestral Hall engineered the alliance of the five hostile forces, supplied the Formation Profound Bead used to breach the city, and arranged Yan Chengjun's decisive ambush 496.

Tianyang Domain's Survival and Inheritances

After Jiang Bei saves Tianyang Domain, Gu Tianhai warns that Shenyong Domain and other Upper Five Domains may retaliate. He offers to help research Jiang Bei's Will Heavenly Weapon and later confirms its true identity as the Nine Heavens Willow 502 504.

He escorts Jiang Bei into Tianyang Grotto-Heaven, where he encourages him to accept the legacies of Tianyang Domain's past protectors. He celebrates Jiang Bei's inheritance of Fang Jianshen's divine-sense ability and Yan Zheng's Heaven and Earth Star Body as a potential path to Tianyang Domain's revival 506 507 515.

Continued Protection of Tianyang Domain

As the Nine Heavens Willow draws forces from across God's Arrival Land, Gu Tianhai initially urges Jiang Bei to flee for his own safety. He ultimately supports Jiang Bei's decision to remain and defend Tianyang Domain 514.

Gu Tianhai reveals the Different Space Tower's ability to relocate an entire city and later explains that its mark will forcibly return Tianyang Domain's displaced inhabitants to God's Arrival Land. He remains deeply concerned that the returning domain will face enemies far stronger than those Jiang Bei has already fought 519 537.

Gu Tianhai is later found imprisoned and drained by the Soul Ancient Tree in Qing Cave. Jiang Bei rescues him, stabilizes his condition, and seeks treatment for him at Longsheng Sect 553 557.

Return to Tianyang Main City

After recovering enough to awaken following his rescue, Gu Tianhai learns that Jiang Bei has not received the Different Space Tower's return mark and therefore will not be forcibly teleported back to God's Arrival Land. Though relieved by Jiang Bei's survival, he remains distressed that Jiang Bei must again shoulder Tianyang Domain's approaching crisis 557.

Upon Tianyang Domain's return, Gu Tianhai continues acting as its public leader. He opens Tianyang Main City's gates to representatives of the Flame God Alliance when they arrive seeking Jiang Bei, cautiously verifying their intentions before allowing further contact 594.
