Background / History

Yu Xiaogang was born into the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Family as the son of Yu Yuanzhen. He possessed only innate half-level Spirit Power, leaving his path as a conventional Spirit Master effectively blocked. Believing his family looked down on him, he left the sect and devoted himself to Spirit Master theory instead. Yu Yuanzhen later regarded this estrangement as a misunderstanding, having wished for Yu Xiaogang to live securely as a family descendant. 154

He became an old friend of Flander and developed a reputation as a Spirit Master theorist. Before coming to Shrek Academy, he traveled there at night, was robbed by bandits, surrendered all of his money and Spirit Master subsidy, and was released. The humiliation left him resentful and eager for revenge. 35

At Shrek, Yu Xiaogang took charge of the students' cultivation and team issues. He formally became Tang San's teacher, framing Ning Tianchen's lead as the result of six additional months of cultivation and promising to direct Tang San's studies and training. 62 65 He also repeatedly attempted to recruit Ning Tianchen as a disciple, but Ning Tianchen refused. 62 66
