Background

Laozi's original opportunity to attain the Dao was tied to the Human Race and the Kongtong Seal. When the seal was taken, Hongjun summoned him and later directed him to seek his chance among humanity, despite Nuwa already establishing Human Teachings. Laozi regarded Nuwa and Lin Fan's involvement as the theft of his Heavenly Mandate. 7 10 19

Following Hongjun's guidance, Laozi founded the Xun Sect to educate mortals and spread the Golden Core Method. The Heavenly Dao initially gave no merit because the Human Race's destiny was already controlled by Human Teachings and the Kongtong Seal. Hongjun ultimately intervened, drawing destiny and blessing Laozi into sainthood. 20

Laozi's Golden Core Great Dao was recorded upon a Dao Stele for the Human Race. Its threshold proved so high that none of the Acquired Humans present could comprehend it, leaving the Xun Sect with little popular foundation among humanity. 20

Appearance

Laozi is portrayed as an elderly Daoist with a white beard and hair, usually carrying or wielding a horsetail whisk. Even when maintaining a detached bearing, anger causes his beard and hair to bristle and his robes to stir without wind. 8 9 39

His composure is repeatedly undermined by losses connected to Lin Fan. The theft of his dojo's treasures, defeats at Lin Fan's hands, and the Human Religion's monopolization of human destiny leave him resentful and increasingly vindictive. 39 81 150

Laozi sought to reclaim a path to sainthood through the Human Race after the Kongtong Seal and Human Teachings undermined his original opportunity. His sect's founding initially failed to earn merit, forcing Hongjun to use Heavenly Dao power to establish his Saint position. 19 20

Conflict with the Human Religion

Laozi attempted to expand the Xun Teaching's influence among humanity and challenged Lin Fan over Human Race destiny. Nuwa intervened in their conflict and drove Laozi back, after which Lin Fan infiltrated and plundered Laozi's dojo. 37 38 39

Laozi later ambushed Lin Fan with Yuanshi, using the Taiji Diagram to seal the area. Nuwa again intervened, and the two Saints failed to capture Lin Fan. 46

Repeated Campaigns Against Lin Fan
