Background / History

Chao Wendao teaches at the Spirit Cloud Sect’s Disciple School, where his entertaining lectures are usually well attended. When attendance fell after the release of Demonic Path Escape, he assumed the absent disciples were pursuing cultivation in an Illusion Realm. He also praised his regular student Xiao Hongzhi for apparently studying through the night, unaware that Xiao had spent it playing the game. 8

Chao Wendao intervened in Lu Ze’s interrogation over the creation of Demonic Path Escape. Having heard Lu Ze’s explanation, he praised the disciple’s insight rather than dismissing it. When Lu Ze and Ding Mingcang formalized their challenge, Chao Wendao established the binding Sect Covenant; he also regretted being unable to accept Lu Ze as his disciple. 20 21

After Lu Ze defeated Ding Mingcang’s Endless Mode challenge, Chao Wendao supported Lu Ze’s advancement to Inner Disciple status and offered him a true disciple’s stipend—two thousand Spirit Stones, medicinal pills, a cultivation method, and a weapon—in return for cooperation in creating Illusion Realms. 43

During the Martial Arts Exchange, he defended Lu Ze when Azure Peak Sect elder Yang Zhengxin objected to a Foundation Establishment disciple designing the event’s Illusion Realm. He later mediated after Yang Zhengxin was defeated by Lu Ze’s trap-based test. When Yang pushed for a war-themed Illusion Realm, Chao objected that the task was too difficult for Lu Ze, but ultimately allowed him to attempt it. 46 54 62

Chao Wendao trusted Zhong Yi to be the first Spirit Cloud Sect representative to test Immortal Realm Supremacy. He later met Sky Profound Gate’s Lin Anzai while playing Go and helped facilitate Lu Ze’s proposal to create a Three Kingdoms-themed card-game illusion for Sky Profound Gate. 65 95

Studying Minecraft’s mod editor gave Chao Wendao insight into spell construction.
