Background / History
Yang Zhengxin is an Azure Peak Sect elder and the sworn brother of Spirit Cloud Sect’s Ding Mingcang. He insisted on replacing the originally assigned leader of Azure Peak Sect’s Martial Arts Exchange delegation so he could defend Ding, who had been sent to Repentance Valley after his conflict with Lu Ze. Yang initially claimed that Lu must have used tricks to cause the incident and demanded that the Exchange’s Illusion Realm meet Ding’s standards. 46
When Chao Wendao revealed that Spirit Cloud Sect’s Inner Disciple Lu Ze had created the Exchange Illusion Realm, Yang openly ridiculed the decision. He repeatedly argued that Lu’s Foundation Establishment cultivation and lack of Secret Realm experience disqualified him from testing True Disciples or designing mechanisms. 46 47
Lu challenged Yang to inspect a mechanism illusion realm. Yang entered “If You’re a Cultivator, Descend a Hundred Levels” believing that, as a Refining Void cultivator, its traps could not threaten him. With his cultivation restricted by the realm’s rules, he was repeatedly killed by text traps, expanding Ground Spikes, Iron Blocks, and an “Immortal Beast” cat. His public defeat shattered his composure and earned Lu Ze 200 Demonic Value. 50 54
Still unwilling to concede, Yang attempted to retaliate by designing an exceptionally difficult stage for Lu Ze. The stage’s rules required its designer to clear it first; Yang died more than a hundred times to his own traps, then destroyed the Mini Illusion Tower in anger. 59 60
Yang later proposed war as the theme for the Martial Arts Exchange’s next Illusion Realm, intending to exploit the enormous scale required and prevent Lu from completing it. Lu nevertheless produced “Immortal Realm Supremacy,” whose strategic war simulation gained support from several sect elders and participating disciples despite Yang’s objections. 62 68 69
During a later Righteous–Demonic-themed competition, Yang prepared for a month in advance and enlisted Huang Qi, a Spirit Transformation illusion specialist known as “Immortal in the Mirror,” to help establish Azure Peak Sect’s illusion realm. 288
Personality
Yang is fiercely loyal to Ding Mingcang and allows that loyalty to shape his judgment. He arrived at the Martial Arts Exchange specifically to defend Ding’s reputation, treating Lu Ze as guilty before examining his work. 46
He is proud of his seniority, cultivation, and extensive Secret Realm experience. This confidence frequently turns into dismissiveness: he rejects Lu’s abilities because of Lu’s age and cultivation level, then repeatedly accuses Lu’s trap designs of being improper after failing them himself. 47 50 54
His concern for Azure Peak Sect’s standing is genuine but closely tied to his own pride. Even while disdaining Lu’s illusion, he becomes alarmed when Azure Peak Sect ranks poorly and places the responsibility for restoring its reputation on his disciple Xu Huoyao. 54 57
Abilities & Skills
Refining Void Cultivation
Yang is a Refining Void Realm cultivator whose ordinary strength is heavily restricted within Lu Ze’s illusion realm. 50
- His divine might can suppress Xu Huoyao’s uncontrolled blackish-purple flames. 57
- He possesses strong combat movement and aerial control, including precise leaps, double jumps, and midair adjustments. 51 53
- His cultivation advantage does not overcome illusion rules that restrict cultivation and enforce instant death on trap contact. 50 52
Secret Realm and Mechanism Expertise
Yang has explored Secret Realms for more than a century and considers himself highly experienced with mechanisms and traps. 59
- He can rapidly analyze routes and identify apparent safe paths in trap-filled environments. 51 53
- He designed his own difficult trap stage to challenge Lu Ze. 59 60
- The requirement to clear his own stage exposed a major limitation: he failed more than a hundred times and could not complete the traps he had designed. 60
Illusion-Realm Preparation
Yang is capable of organizing long-term preparations for large-scale illusion competitions. 288
- He identified scale as the weakness he believed would prevent Lu Ze from creating a war-themed illusion realm. 60 62
- He later recruited Huang Qi, a Spirit Transformation illusion specialist, and prepared Azure Peak Sect’s illusion foundation a month in advance. 288
Relationships
- Ding Mingcang — Sworn brother. Yang traveled to the Martial Arts Exchange to defend him and challenge the circumstances behind his confinement in Repentance Valley. 46
- Lu Ze — Rival and target of Yang’s repeated skepticism. Yang publicly challenged Lu’s qualifications, suffered a humiliating defeat in Lu’s mechanism illusion, and later tried to obstruct Lu through the war-theme proposal. 46 54 60 69
- Xu Huoyao — Disciple and Azure Peak Sect True Disciple. Yang suppresses Xu’s outburst, expects him to uphold the sect’s reputation, and later works with him to counter Lu Ze. 57 60
- Chao Wendao — Opposing elder during the Martial Arts Exchange. Chao protects Lu Ze from Yang’s provocations and disputes Yang’s objections to Immortal Realm Supremacy. 47 68
- Nangong Yuan — Hostile fellow elder. Nangong calls him “Old Thief Yang” after Yang pressures Lu Ze to create a high-grade mechanism. 49
- Huang Qi — Outside illusion specialist recruited by Yang for Azure Peak Sect’s later competition preparations. 288
