Background / History

Ding Mingcang served as Spirit Cloud Sect's Second Elder and took particular concern with discipline, attendance, and the sect's cultivation atmosphere. When disciples became absorbed in Demonic Path Escape, he concluded that the Illusion Realm eroded minds and was likely the work of a demonic infiltrator. He brought the matter to Grand Elder Chao Wendao and began an investigation through the Enforcement Hall. 10

His suspicion soon centered on Lu Ze. Ding Mingcang summoned Lu Ze to the Enforcement Hall, publicly interrogated him, and accused him of creating a heretical Illusion Realm that disrupted disciples' Dao Hearts. Although Outer Disciples testified that Demonic Path Escape had advanced their Cloud Shattering Art, and Inner Disciples credited it with improving their movement techniques, Ding Mingcang continued to press the accusation. 18

Ding Mingcang refused to believe that a Foundation Establishment disciple could have designed the Illusion Realm. He instead suspected Lu Ze was covering for a more powerful, possibly demonic, creator behind both the game and the heavenly phenomenon at Glazed Fire Peak. He intended to cripple Lu Ze's cultivation and expel him from the sect, but Zhong Yi, Mu Yawen, and Li Moran intervened. 19
