Background

Xiao Yan was once the Xiao Family’s unmatched prodigy. He began cultivating at four, became a Dou Practitioner at eleven, and received the admiration of the entire family before his Dou Qi began disappearing. During the following three years, the same relatives who had praised him openly mocked and ostracized him. 4

Mo Yu was among the few peers who did not abandon him in this period. His encouragement—particularly the declaration that Xiao Yan should not be judged by temporary poverty or failure—helped restore Xiao Yan’s resolve to uncover the cause of his condition. 5 Xiao Yan later learned that Yao Chen, known as Old Yao, had been responsible for the loss of his Dou Qi and became his disciple, restarting his cultivation with renewed confidence. 11
