Background

Drawn by a mysterious sensation alongside Taiyi, Di Jun entered the Outer Heavens and discovered a divine Star Sand containing the Ancient Heavenly Court Great World. The pair refined its thirty-three heavens, manifested it in the Outer Heavens, and made it the foundation of the Demon Race's new home. Di Jun then proclaimed the establishment of the Demon Court and summoned demons to join it 56.

Personality

Di Jun is ambitious and territorial, seeking to unite the Demon Race, control the Primordial World, and secure the Sun and Taiyin stars for the Demon Court. He views the Heavenly Marriage and the attainment of Saints as tools for consolidating his race's authority 155 204.

He can be cautious when the consequences threaten the Demon Court. Before Duke of the East's death, Di Jun feared provoking Dao Ancestor Hongjun; after defeat by Chen Ku, he ordered the Demon Race to temporarily yield territory to the Witch Clan while he recovered and advanced 136 166.

His setbacks against Chen Ku fostered lasting hatred and resentment. He remained hostile toward Xihe and Changxi for rejecting his proposed Heavenly Marriage, and later reacted with anger when his son Lu Ya wished to study Buddhist Dharma under Chen Ku 186 256.

• Yu Linglong (Tushan Jiu'er) — Di Jun's Dao companion and Demon Empress. Their Heavenly Marriage brought both immense Heavenly Dao Merit, while Yu Linglong later appeared as the mother of the Ten Golden Crows 167 237.

Story Role and Major Arcs

Destruction of the Celestial Court

Di Jun and Taiyi mobilized the Demon Race against the weakened Celestial Court, intending to conquer Penglai and annihilate Duke of the East's forces 127. Di Jun hesitated to kill Duke of the East out of concern for Dao Ancestor Hongjun's response, but Taiyi ultimately used the Chaos Bell to kill him 136.

Conflict with the West

Di Jun attempted to bring Xihe and Changxi into a Heavenly Marriage to strengthen the Demon Race and seize influence over the Taiyin Star. When they resisted and remained with the West, Di Jun led the Demon Race to Mount Sumeru to demand them back 155 159.

During the ensuing battle, Di Jun used the Mixed Origin Hetu Luoshu Grand Formation to trap Zhun Ti before attacking Chen Ku directly. Chen Ku countered with the Twelfth Grade Black Lotus of Destruction and God-Slaying Spear, piercing Di Jun's body and driving him into retreat 161 163. The Eye of the Heavenly Dao prevented Chen Ku from killing Di Jun, allowing the Demon Emperor to flee 163.

Heavenly Marriage and Recovery

After his defeat, Di Jun accepted Kunpeng's proposal to marry Tushan Jiu'er instead. The Heavenly Marriage granted Di Jun substantial merit, enabling him to sever his Ego Corpse and advance to the late Quasi-Sage stage 166 167.

Plot Against Hong Yun

To secure another Saint for the Demon Race, Di Jun proposed helping Kunpeng seize Hong Yun's Primordial Purple Qi 204 205. He and Taiyi later ambushed Chen Ku and Hong Yun with a force of one hundred Demon Saints, but withdrew when the Witch Clan attacked Demon Race territory and threatened the Demon Court from another front 210 216 217.

Ten Golden Crows and War Preparations

The Demon Court announced the birth of Di Jun's Ten Golden Crow sons and invited powerful figures to a grand celebration 206. When the Golden Crows later escaped the Sun Star, Hou Yi shot down nine of them despite Chen Ku initially releasing them 238.

Di Jun subsequently developed the Star Dou Grand Formation and ordered the Demon Race to seize control of the starry sky and refine Star Banners. He also commissioned the Witch Slaughtering Sword after learning that human essence could kill Witch Clan members 271 304.

Visit to the Western Buddhist Sect

Di Jun personally went to Mount Sumeru with Jiu Ying to address the matter of the Witch Slaughtering Sword, despite his subordinates' objections 336. When Jiu Ying defied Chen Ku, Chen Ku destroyed Jiu Ying's physical body; Di Jun pleaded successfully for the subordinate's primordial spirit, only for Jiu Ying to receive imprisonment in the Demon Suppression Tower 337.

Final Witch–Demon War

Di Jun and Taiyi entered the final conflict against the Witch Clan with the Star Dou Grand Formation and Witch Slaughtering Sword as their principal means of victory 350. The sword was used to kill four Ancestral Witches, but doing so exhausted most of Di Jun's magic power, origin, and the Demon Court's fortune 394. As the surviving Ancestral Witches counterattacked, Zhurong carried Di Jun toward Buzhou Mountain in an attempt to kill them both 394.
