Background / History

Dai Mubai is the Third Prince of the Xingluo Empire. He witnessed his second elder brother die at the hands of their elder brother, Dai Weisi, and later fled to the Balak Kingdom after losing to Dai Weisi himself. Fearing pursuit, assassination, or poisoning, he adopted an outward image of weakness and decadence to convince observers that he was no threat. 44

In Soto City, Dai Mubai collided with Tuoba Yan and deliberately escalated the minor incident into a fight. He later realized that Tuoba Yan was affiliated with the Martial Soul Hall and became afraid after witnessing him kill Zhao Wuji. 43 50

Dai Mubai is a golden-haired youth whose White Tiger possession drastically changes his appearance. 43 45

Dai Mubai is proud, competitive, and unwilling to accept defeat, particularly against a younger opponent. After Tuoba Yan withstands and counters his strongest unarmed attacks, Dai Mubai continues fighting rather than concede, regarding the encounter as a rare chance to test himself against a formidable peer. 44

His apparent recklessness is partly calculated. As an exiled prince under pressure from Dai Weisi, he intentionally cultivates the image of a frightened, self-indulgent troublemaker to reduce the threat he appears to pose. 44

His pride is easily wounded. Losing to Tuoba Yan without forcing him to summon his Martial Soul leaves Dai Mubai frustrated and humiliated, especially when Tuoba Yan refuses to give him his name. 45

Soto City Conflict

Dai Mubai encounters Tuoba Yan in Soto City and attacks him after a minor collision. Their first exchange establishes that Tuoba Yan has superior raw strength despite appearing younger. 43

Dai Mubai uses trained combat techniques and eventually invokes White Tiger possession after failing to overcome Tuoba Yan unarmed. He formally declares himself a level 28 White Tiger Battle Soul Master, but Tuoba Yan defeats him in a single exchange without summoning a Martial Soul. 44 45

Zhao Wuji’s Intervention

After Dai Mubai is burned by Tuoba Yan’s counterattack, Zhao Wuji intervenes on his behalf and demands medical expenses. Dai Mubai clarifies that Tuoba Yan—not Spirit Eagle Douluo—was the person who defeated him. 45

He remains an observer during Zhao Wuji’s subsequent battle with Tuoba Yan, witnessing his teacher’s eventual defeat. 46 47

Zhao Wuji’s Death

Dai Mubai is shocked when Tuoba Yan beheads Zhao Wuji during the Martial Soul Hall mission. Believing that Tuoba Yan may kill him as well, he panics when Tuoba Yan looks in his direction. 50

Tuoba Yan ultimately spares Dai Mubai because he has no current blood feud with him, Dai Mubai has not yet become an enemy of the Martial Soul Hall, and killing a Xingluo prince would create political consequences for the Tuoba Clan. 50
