Background / History
Murong Yue originated from the Murong family of Jiangnan in Great Jin's mortal world. A child with a High-grade Spirit Root, she was deceived and sold into the cultivation world by Old Guan, alongside Lin Chang'an, Li Han, and Qi Feng. The group ultimately entered the Great Sword Sect under its restrictive Spirit Contract 149 153.
Before becoming a cultivator, Murong Yue came from a mortal martial aristocratic family and was an Innate Martial Artist. Though she initially relied on cultivation with Li Han in the Cloud Ridge Mountain Range, she refused to accept a future of simply marrying a Great Sword Sect disciple or barely sustaining herself through farming 10.
Over the years, her treatment by the Great Sword Sect shaped her central ambition: acquiring enough strength to control her own fate. She secretly recruited support against the sect and framed rebellion as “bringing order to the sect by eliminating chaos,” avoiding direct violation of her Spirit Contract 114 122.
During the Great Sword Sect's collapse, Murong Yue led exploited cultivators in rebellion at the Purple Copper Mine and fought Elder Ma. She also poisoned Lu Chang'an, later revealing that she had independently added a further ingredient to the poison as insurance 126 130.
After Lin Chang'an took control, Murong Yue handled the weakened sect's market-town affairs. He subsequently transferred authority over the renamed Sword Sect to her, while she pursued the resources necessary for Foundation Establishment 129 131.
Murong Yue traveled to Tianyuan City to cooperate with Lin Chang'an and exact revenge on Old Guan. With Lin's premium Foundation Establishment Pill, she successfully advanced. She and Lin Chang'an then used Guan Changshou as a human puppet to capture Old Guan, confronting him over his trafficking of spiritually gifted children 152 153 154.
Upon returning to Qingshan Mountain Market, Murong Yue used her new Foundation Establishment cultivation and human puppet to reclaim territory and resources. Within a year, the Sword Sect's influence had nearly recovered to the former Great Sword Sect's level before she shifted to consolidation 156.
Appearance
Murong Yue is repeatedly presented as an elegant, graceful cultivator whose clothing shifts according to circumstance, from formal palace attire to practical black robes and veils.
- Wore an elegant palace gown during the reunion with Lin Chang'an, Li Han, and Qi Feng 114.
- Often travels in black clothing with a bamboo hat or black veil to conceal her identity 149.
- Her black clothing emphasizes her graceful figure; Old Guan describes her as a young female cultivator 149.
- After resolving her cultivation impediments, she is described with a flushed complexion and porcelain-like skin 204.
- Later appears in white at the Sword Sect's former Great Sword Sect residence 224.
Personality
Murong Yue is ambitious, pragmatic, and intensely unwilling to let others dictate her life. Even while still bound to the Great Sword Sect, she viewed high cultivation as insufficient unless it granted genuine control over one's destiny 114.
She is politically astute and cautious. She recruits allies, gathers intelligence, negotiates for advantage, and prepares contingencies—even against nominal allies. Her separate addition to the poison used on Lu Chang'an demonstrates her refusal to rely completely on anyone else's arrangements 121 130.
Her ambition is tempered by realism. Murong Yue favors being powerful in Qingshan Mountain Market over becoming an insignificant cultivator in Tianyuan City, and she repeatedly recognizes when opportunities are too dangerous to pursue directly 149 225 227.
Despite her calculating nature, she retains loyalty to her earliest companions. She preserves her familiar form of address for Li Han after surpassing him in cultivation, and Lin Chang'an considers her reliable because she had repeated opportunities to seize the Sword Sect for herself but did not do so 203.
