Background & History
Immortal Sheep was publicly known as a Ninth-Rank god, placing it at the bottom of the divine rankings. Its sect consequently became associated with weak believers, avoidance, and escape rather than combat 2 402 649. Despite this reputation, it once descended upon Ye Yu City during the demonic invasion, saved its inhabitants, and led the five Cheng brothers—Cheng Ren, Cheng Yi, Cheng Li, Cheng Zhi, and Cheng Xin—to become the first Immortal Sheep believers 291.
The Respecting Immortals Hall preserves thousands of Xianyang Jade Sculptures depicting its past deeds. While many sculptures show its familiar gentle appearance, a large number depict it in combat poses, documenting its active resistance against demons 291.
It accepted Lu Ran as a believer during the latter's first public manifestation of the Immortal Sheep. Their contract was later revealed not to be an ordinary master-servant arrangement: Lu Ran was made an inheritor meant to eventually replace it 2 657.
Although it initially identified itself as Immortal Sheep, it repeatedly hinted at a deeper identity with the answer, “Yes. And no.” 30. Lu Ran ultimately learned that it was not the Celestial Goat recognized by the public, but an entity beyond ordinary gods and devils that had taken on the Celestial Goat's shell 953. It later disclosed its name as Tomb, stating that it fed upon gods and devils rather than being one of them 1035.
Appearance
Immortal Sheep normally appears as an upright, jade-white sheep-like figure in a luminous white jade robe. Its public form projects humility and gentleness, but its black-headed manifestation is markedly sinister.
- Public manifestation — crystal-clear white body; stands on its hind hooves; presses its forehooves together in salute; emits divine mist 2.
- White Jade Robe — lustrous like mutton-fat jade and radiant even in darkness 2.
- Shrine statue — a white jade sheep sculpture whose head can turn pitch-black while communicating 3 1035.
- Black Fire Goat Head — a bodiless black goat head with burning black fire and unnerving horizontal pupils, encountered in Lu Ran's spiritual experiences 28 1032.
- True-self stone body — despite its white jade robe, its true self is described as dark stone like other gods and devils 1036.
- Immortal Sheep Lackeys — miniature upright sheep figures in white jade robes, capable of charging with horns and immortal hooves 876.
Personality
Immortal Sheep maintains an outwardly gentle, smiling, and humble image—even bowing to the God North Wind in public to settle a conflict—yet its private manner is stern, cold, and frequently overbearing 374 375. Its telepathic replies are often terse, and it dismisses excessive questioning or sentimentality with blunt commands 656 801 900.
It is notably indulgent toward Lu Ran. It permits him to reinterpret the sect's traditionally evasive techniques for battle, praises his progress on rare occasions, and repeatedly protects him from pursuing strength too recklessly 21 255 281. However, its guidance consistently emphasizes self-reliance: Lu Ran must make his own choices and walk his own path 255 656.
Its worldview centers on decline, death, and renewal. Tomb considers death necessary for life and regards the eternally immortal Faceless Jade Sovereign as a force that ends the old era's natural cycle 1036.
Abilities & Powers
Divine Manifestation and Telepathy
Immortal Sheep can communicate directly through shrines, jade sculptures, dreams, and spiritual manifestations.
- Sends telepathic messages without requiring Lu Ran to complete formal worship rituals 6.
- Projects a giant phantom hundreds of meters tall when intervening in major conflicts 374.
- Can manifest through its shrine statue with a blackened sheep head and oppressive presence 1035.
- Its presence frightened the god Wangquan, who recognized it as “Tomb” 953.
Divine Blessings
Immortal Sheep can provide divine mist and powerful blessings to its believers.
- Granted Lu Ran divine mist upon accepting him as a believer 2.
- Blessed Lu Ran at Luoxian Temple for an hour, tempering his body, meridians, and cultivation speed; Lu Ran reached River Realm, Fourth Stage less than two months later 287 288.
- Its blessings can overwhelm weaker bodies; even River Realm Lu Ran was considered physically fragile for a stronger blessing 289.
Divine Technique: Sheep
The sect's defining and most dangerous technique transforms a target into a lamb.
- Temporarily transformed Wei Long into a little lamb during Lu Ran's sparring match 41.
- Immortal Sheep Lackeys used it to turn Faceless Jade Sovereigns into lambs that could be killed 876.
- Cheng Xin, acting through the Immortal Sheep God Statue, used it against a Jade Sovereign's true self in the final battle 1087.
- Cost: leaves the user physically weak, drains divine power, exhausts the spirit, and damages the soul 157.
- Long-term limit: repeated use can leave the caster's soul incomplete and eventually reduce them to an empty shell 157.
- Strategic danger: using it against a powerful enemy leaves the caster vulnerable while weakened, inviting other gods and devils to retaliate 876.
Evil Sculpture Garden and Soul Control
Immortal Sheep guided Lu Ran's use of the Gods and Devils Sculpture Garden, allowing captured evil souls to nourish and activate evil sculptures.
- Its stones can control evil, and it proposed that sufficient slaughter could eventually place “myriad evils” under their command 30.
- Decides when Lu Ran may activate evil statues and warned that a Mist Realm believer could sustain only one active sculpture 43.
- Recommended the Vicious Dog Clan as Lu Ran's first evil sculpture because it was comparatively weak and manageable 43.
- Warned that absorbing too many souls could attract the true self of the corresponding evil 56.
- Can consume souls within the Sculpture Garden, competing with Lu Ran's sculptures for valuable nourishment 122.
Contracts and Inheritance
Immortal Sheep possesses authority over believer contracts and succession.
- Signed Lu Ran to an inheritor contract rather than a low-tier master-servant contract 657.
- Declared that Lu Ran would ultimately replace it before its dissipation 657.
- Broke Qiao Yuanxi's connection to the Lantern deity, apparently without physical contact 660.
- Explained how Cheng Yi's inheritance contract could be severed, though doing so would inflict severe trauma without god-grade healing 1037.
Resurrection and Life–Death Authority
Tomb's powers extend into the boundary between life and death, though it treats such interference as exceptional.
- Resurrected Lu Ran's father, Lu Xing, despite stating that doing so violated its own principle 1036.
- Required an extended period to complete the resurrection, demonstrating that even its power has limits 1009 1014.
- Describes itself as a rule or constraint governing the life and death of gods and devils, including the erosion of god statues and evil sculptures 1036.
Relationships
- Lu Ran — believer, favored disciple, and designated inheritor. Immortal Sheep guides his growth but insists that he choose his own path; Lu Ran is intended to replace it before its dissipation 255 657.
- Lu Xing — Lu Ran's father, whom Immortal Sheep resurrected despite considering resurrection a violation of its governing principle 1035 1036.
- Cheng Yi — one of the first five Immortal Sheep believers; remains loyal to the deity and preserves its history at Luoxian Temple 291.
- Cheng Xin — one of the Cheng brothers; impersonated the Immortal Sheep God Statue for a long period and led the mountain's defense during the Jade Sovereign crisis 1066.
- Yanzhiren — a former acquaintance; their relationship deteriorated because of Lu Ran's existence and Immortal Sheep's role in shaping him 952.
- Qiao Yuanxi — Lu Ran's sister; Immortal Sheep forcibly severed her connection to the Lantern deity 660.
- Wangquan — a god who recognized Immortal Sheep as “Tomb” and reacted with visible fear 953.
- North Wind — another god with whom Immortal Sheep silently negotiated after appearing personally to resolve a conflict involving Lu Ran 374 375.
Role in Lu Ran's Journey
Acceptance and Early Guidance
Immortal Sheep saved Lu Ran during his first public crisis and immediately accepted him as a believer, granting him divine mist and a place within the Immortal Sheep Sect 2. It controlled and silenced him when he tried to expose their connection to his mother, establishing its intimidating authority early in their relationship 3.
It taught Lu Ran exclusive or uncommon techniques, including Immortal Hoof and later Sheep, while allowing him to weaponize techniques that ordinary Celestial Goat believers used primarily to flee danger 20 21 157.
Building the Sculpture Garden
Immortal Sheep introduced Lu Ran to the Demonic Sculpture Garden and encouraged him to collect evil souls. It selected the Vicious Dog Clan as his first evil sculpture, advised gradual growth, and later supported his decision-making without taking full control of his path 30 43 255.
Revealing the World's Structure
As Lu Ran became stronger, Immortal Sheep explained that gods and devils were divided rather than wholly separate, and that their conflict had accelerated humanity's transformation into a society of universal worship 801. It also explained that gods and devils depend on human faith and extreme emotions, but inevitably decline as their stored energy dissipates 927.
Preparing an Heir
Immortal Sheep repeatedly told Lu Ran that he was an inheritor and would replace it. It pushed him toward Holy Spirit Mountain, encouraged him to develop the Ran Sect and its False Gods, and evaluated his growing capacity to challenge the gods and devils 656 657 861.
The Final Era
Tomb regarded the Faceless Jade Sovereign as a truly immortal new god whose arrival rendered itself and the old gods obsolete 1036. Although it possessed the devastating Sheep technique, it warned that using it against the Jade Sovereign would leave it dangerously weakened 876 961.
During the final conflict, the Immortal Sheep God Statue's Sheep technique transformed the Jade Sovereign's true self into a lamb-like form at immense cost to the caster's energy and god soul 1087. Later reflection characterizes Immortal Sheep's end as a voluntary sacrifice or withdrawal from the historical stage, rather than an unavoidable defeat 1097.

“The path is one you walk yourself.” 656
“You will ultimately replace me.” 657
“The Faceless Jade Sovereign is a being who divides eras. Her appearance means that I and all gods and devils have become relics of the old era.” 1036
Trivia
- Immortal Sheep was publicly ranked Ninth Rank, yet its true status was powerful enough to terrify at least one established god 2 953.
- Its sect's reputation for cowardice stems from its techniques' emphasis on avoidance and the severe self-harm caused by Sheep 21 157.
- Lu Ran affectionately and fearfully refers to it as “Boss Sheep” or “President Overbearing Sheep” 656 801.
- The white jade appearance associated with Immortal Sheep conceals a darker true-self stone body and its Black Fire Goat Head manifestation 28 1036.
