Background / History
Yu Changsheng was encountered in Holy Spirit Mountain while residing in a lake. A Dragon Carp believer, he used his Dragon Carp Divine Technique to purify the surrounding area and reveal a pale-gold dragon carp form. Though initially suspicious of Lu Ran and Deng Yuxiang, he spared them and warned Lu Ran that survival in Holy Spirit Mountain required trusting no one blindly. 406
He later rescued Lu Ran and Deng Yuxiang from Jian Yi disciples. Lu Ran recognized both Yu Changsheng's strength and his disillusionment with the gods, then invited him into the fledgling Ran Sect. Yu Changsheng accepted, tempted by the prospect of becoming a god and by Lu Ran's ambition to change the existing order. He chose the codename Conglong, meaning “Following the Dragon.” 412 414 415
As the Ran Sect expanded, Yu Changsheng became its chief strategist. He directed rescue operations, assessed allies and enemies, planned the campaign against Jingting Mountain, and helped engineer the takeover of Liyuan Sect through an internal uprising. 432 539 677
Lu Ran later bound him to the Ink Carp Evil Sculpture to improve his cultivation potential. After the sculpture advanced, Yu Changsheng merged with it and became the pseudo-evil god Cong Long, retaining a flesh-and-blood body while gaining the functions of an evil god phantom. 685 768 770
Appearance
Yu Changsheng is an exceptionally handsome man whose features are striking enough to make his gender difficult to distinguish at a glance. He commonly presents himself as an elegant young nobleman, carrying and idly waving a folding fan. 406
- Pale, refined appearance and an unusually graceful bearing.
- Often dressed in long robes or a coir raincoat and blue hat while operating in Holy Spirit Mountain.
- Frequently associated with golden Dragon Carp and black Ink Carp manifestations.
- His Cong Long stone-statue form retains his long robe and distinctive handsome features. 769
Personality
Yu Changsheng is cautious, observant, and difficult to deceive. Long exposure to Holy Spirit Mountain left him distrustful and emotionally numb, yet he retained a capacity for mercy; he spared Lu Ran and Deng Yuxiang despite recognizing that they could be dangerous. 406
He is an incisive strategist who favors preparation, information gathering, and exploiting an opponent’s weakness. While he can be ruthless when necessary, he understands Lu Ran’s reluctance to use innocent people as leverage and usually tailors his advice to the Sect Leader’s moral limits. 425 443
His loyalty to Lu Ran is deeply personal. Yu Changsheng sees Lu Ran as the person who gave him purpose after he had become little more than a “rotted” shell in Holy Spirit Mountain. 582 613
