Background

Early life and worship

Jiang Ruyi was Lu Ran's desk mate for two years and consistently ranked among the top three students in her grade in physical testing, martial arts, and overall performance. Though naturally gentle and demure, she worried that her personality would not suit the cold and arrogant Jian Yi. 1 86

At the Worshiping Altar, she declined the second-tier god Tianluan and became a disciple of the third-tier Jade Talisman instead. Her oath committed her to worship, diligent cultivation, and the eradication of malevolent spirits. 1

She later helped form a team with Lu Ran, Deng Yutang, and Tian Tian. Jiang Ruyi treated the timid Tian Tian patiently, promised to train her well, and encouraged her to prove herself through effort. 17

Pilgrimage and return

A divine summons from the Jade Talisman sent Jiang Ruyi on a pilgrimage to Yumen Pass. Before she left, Lu Ran entrusted her with the Liangye Sword for protection, while she gave him her scarf. 87

After five months away, she returned having forged the Liangye Sword into a divine weapon and activated the Jade Talisman Array. She won the Grand Martial Competition and revealed that she had reached River Realm Second Stage. 196 198 199

Fallen Immortal Mountain

Jiang Ruyi trained under Cheng Li after arriving at Fallen Immortal Mountain. She patiently repeated basic forms, kept detailed notes on every lesson, and developed into a formidable close-range swordswoman despite initially specializing in talismans and ranged combat. 320 322 496

Her advancement to the Jiang Realm dramatically changed her physique and aura; even her parents struggled to recognize the daughter they had raised. 321 362

Holy Spirit Mountain and the Ran Sect

After entering Holy Spirit Mountain, Jiang Ruyi abandoned a dysfunctional Jade Talisman squad rather than submit to Meng Zhixuan's attempts to claim credit for her combat contributions. She concluded that she needed to gather allies and strength if she wanted to find Lu Ran and survive after their reunion. 496 501

She became a decisive leader, recruiting groups such as the Lieshan Gang, helping the Shanwei believers, and directing her own team in search of Lu Ran. Her followers Song Yu and Zhang Zheng began addressing her as “Madam,” recognizing her authority. 497 501

After reuniting with Lu Ran, the consequences of their contract temporarily reduced her cultivation. She merged with the False God Jade Talisman, formed a new contract with Lu Ran, and regained her resolve. 510 515

Ascension and final war

As Ran Sect Madam, Jiang Ruyi became the sect's principal commander and a central force in its expansion. She took Lihuo under her protection, reconciled with Deng Yuxiang for the sake of the sect's unity, and brought Tian Tian into the Ran Sect despite the distance her growing power had created between them. 519 621 659

She ultimately became a complete deity by absorbing the Jade Talisman God Soul. During the final conflict, she defeated the Oracle and used the Liangye Sword's domain against the Faceless Jade Sovereigns. 1003 1023 1069

Appearance

Jiang Ruyi is a tall, slender woman with long black hair, clear bright eyes, and a refined, ethereal bearing. She was 172 cm tall before her Yumen Pass pilgrimage, grew several centimeters during it, and later reached 177 cm. 86 198 658

  • Often wears white dresses, Daoist robes, or other pale clothing that emphasizes her cool, elegant image. 318 350 491
  • Her hair carries a faint jasmine fragrance, which she deliberately retained after returning to the human world. 86 659
  • Around strangers, her powerful aura can make crowds fall silent or prevent weaker cultivators from approaching. 491 583
  • Her later phoenix robe is deep red with shimmering phoenix patterns, enhancing her regal and intimidating presence. 696

Personality

Jiang Ruyi is gentle, quiet, responsible, and highly disciplined. She is naturally considerate toward people who rely on her, including Tian Tian, Si Xianxian, Lihuo, and her subordinates. Her patience in sword training and her careful evaluation of others reflect a meticulous, scholarly temperament. 17 322 621

Her kindness does not make her submissive. When faced with harassment, manipulation, or threats to Lu Ran and the Ran Sect, she can become distant, cold, and commanding. She left Meng Zhixuan's squad when he repeatedly exploited her efforts, and she later treated leadership as a responsibility rather than a privilege. 299 496 519

Around Lu Ran, Jiang Ruyi is far more expressive: shy when teased, jealous of perceived rivals, and deeply protective of his safety. Her devotion remains the foundation of her Dao Heart and influences the Liangye Sword's growth. 302 390 1058 1060

Abilities & Skills

Jade Talisman Array

Jiang Ruyi's core Divine Technique surrounds her with prepared jade talismans rather than requiring her to draw them during battle.

  • Four white jade plaques can store frost, explosive flame, lightning, and quicksand talismans for immediate use. 196
  • The array grants flight and can absorb or withstand powerful elemental attacks. 196 198
  • Eight gold jade talismans can automatically intercept attacks from every direction, creating nearly blind-spot-free defense. 252
  • Her later Jade Ghost Talisman can absorb ice, fire, lightning, and sand techniques without being restricted to a single sect's methods. 1015

Ghost Talisman techniques

After merging with the False God Jade Talisman, Jiang Ruyi gained access to Ghost Talisman-derived abilities. 515

  • Bewitching Array — Deploys thirty-two black talismans that trap living targets in an illusory “ghost wall.” 881
  • Intangibility — Can phase through solid matter with the Liangye Sword, allowing her to bypass physical barriers. 838

Swordsmanship and the Liangye Sword

Jiang Ruyi trained rigorously under Cheng Li and became an exceptional swordswoman capable of both direct combat and remote sword control. 322 496

  • Commands the Liangye Sword with thought alone and coordinates it effectively with Lu Ran's Xiaguang Saber. 221 234
  • Developed strong melee capability despite her slender appearance and talisman-focused combat style. 496
  • The Rest of His Life Tribulation — The Liangye Sword's third divine weapon domain amplifies a target's anxiety and worries until their mind deteriorates. 1060
  • Used the domain to immobilize and weaken Jade Sovereigns, though a powerful Faceless Jade Sovereign eventually broke free through sheer will. 1069

Phoenix Nine Heavens Robe

Jiang Ruyi tamed the Phoenix Nine Heavens Robe and advanced it to the third rank. 693 902

  • All Beings Bow — Burns the souls of those who offend or gaze upon its wearer. 902
  • Know Truth and Falsehood, Distinguish Loyalty and Treachery — Detects deception and disloyal intent through the soul. 693 902
  • Phoenix Soul Brand — Brands a target's soul; Jiang Ruyi tested its endurance limit on Wu Xiao. 902
  • Its domain manifests a colossal phoenix phantom that inflicts severe soul pain to deter and suppress enemies rather than directly destroy them. 1003

Command and strategic judgment

Jiang Ruyi is a composed battlefield commander who evaluates people, resources, and risks with unusual clarity.

  • Recruited allies and expanded her force while searching for Lu Ran in Holy Spirit Mountain. 497 501
  • Served as the Ran Sect's first-team captain and commander during the Heaven Realm battlefield campaign, achieving strong results without casualties. 856
  • Uses the Phoenix Robe's truth-detection ability to assess recruits' loyalty and character. 988

Equipment

  • Liangye Sword — Her divine weapon and principal sword; originally entrusted to her by Lu Ran before her Yumen Pass pilgrimage. 87 196
  • Phoenix Nine Heavens Robe — Third-rank magic tool with soul-burning, truth-detection, branding, and suppression abilities. 693 902 1003
  • Ice Heart Bracelet — A mental-defense magic tool that calms the mind and later advanced to Rank Three. 559 1032
  • Jade Ghost Talisman — A collection of four white jade plaques and two black jade plaques that grants exceptional elemental resistance. 1015
  • Fuxian Whip — A red whip carried at her waist that can extend over distance to bind and move targets. 909
