Both were exhausted by the end and used their final attacks. They each landed a punch on the other; neither was seriously hurt, but both collapsed and could not get up, resulting in a draw.
Match Seven: Temari vs. a Konoha extra
With one sweep of her Three-Star Fan, Temari won with ease.
Match Eight: Shikamaru Nara vs. Choji Akimichi
The two raised their hands to surrender almost simultaneously, but Choji was a step quicker, so Shikamaru won.
"Hehe, good thing I was prepared. Shikamaru, make sure you do your best in the next matches." Choji stuffed potato chips into his mouth and chewed.
"What a drag." Shikamaru looked up at the sky.
Match Nine: Chiba Kishu vs. a Kumogakure extra
Hyuga Kei took the field and sent the man flying out with a single sound-wave attack, winning easily.
Match Ten: Karui vs. Tenten
The absurdly wealthy Tenten used Twin Rising Dragons. Under the overwhelming barrage of ninja tools, Karui was defeated.
Hyuga Kei secretly praised her. "As expected of my future sister-in-law. She's pretty capable, and she's rich too. Neji could even marry into her family."
Match Eleven: Gaara vs. a Konoha extra
The extra died horribly. There probably was not even an intact corpse left; his entire body had been crushed by sand.
Match Twelve: Rock Lee vs. a Sunagakure extra
Rock Lee did not even remove his weights. He easily ended the fight with the Front Lotus.
The preliminaries concluded smoothly, with nothing particularly unexpected happening.
