History

Nine-Tails’ Rampage

The Nine-Tails’ Rampage devastated Konoha, killing many civilians and shinobi and forcing a period of reconstruction. The Uchiha District was relocated to the village outskirts in its aftermath. 2

Uchiha Obito is later identified as the figure who controlled the Nine-Tails and caused the deaths of the Fourth Hokage, Minato Namikaze, and his wife. 130

Uchiha persecution and internal corruption

Following the Rampage, the Uchiha clan was suspected of involvement, isolated from the rest of the village, moved to the outskirts, and monitored by Anbu. The resulting hostility contributed to the clan’s plans for a coup. 130

The village higher-ups chose to annihilate the Uchiha clan rather than risk civil war. Itachi Uchiha was assigned to carry out the massacre after Shisui Uchiha was killed by Danzō. 130

Danzō operated Root from an underground base on Konoha’s outskirts. The organization was wiped out during Hyuga Kei and Kabuto Yakushi’s attack on the base. 57

Sound Village crisis

Hyuga Kei infiltrated Konoha under the identity of Sound genin Chiba Kishu before the Chunin Exams. Konoha’s Anbu monitored his group on arrival, though Hiruzen initially judged three genin too insignificant to threaten the village. 41

During the Konoha Crush crisis, Chiba Kishu abducted Neji Hyuga and Tenten, openly revealed himself as the Sound Village’s leader, and clashed with Konoha’s forces. His battle against Jiraiya, Kakashi, Might Guy, and Tsunade caused major destruction across the village. 60 61

Tsunade assumed the title of Fifth Hokage during the crisis and negotiated directly with Chiba Kishu. Konoha ultimately signed an alliance treaty with the Land of Rice and paid heavily for Jiraiya’s release. 64 65

Tsunade administration

Under Tsunade, Konoha regained control of its hospital, established a direct Anbu force through Kakashi’s connections, and received increased support from the Land of Fire’s Daimyo. 73

After revelations concerning Hiruzen and Danzō spread, Tsunade authorized revisions to village textbooks to reassess Hiruzen’s legacy. 67

Tsunade’s administration also publicly recognized Naruto Uzumaki’s role in restraining Shukaku during the crisis, gradually shifting civilian attitudes toward him from disgust to fear. 66
